St Mirren have marked a few cards

449

Don’t give me any semi-final chat for now, we have a league game ahead, the biggest threat to which is to take your eye of what’s in front of us. For the next six days, the season is one game long.

St Mirren did their homework before coming to Celtic Park yesterday. The Paisley club are five points adrift at the foot of the Championship but for almost an hour were as compact and competitive as any Premiership club against Celtic this season.

There was nothing particularly innovative about their strategy; two banks of four, which seldom had more than five yards between them, with a couple of runners trying to occupy Celtic’s back line, but it wasn’t until the introduction of Patrick Roberts, and, crucially, Leigh Griffiths, that Celtic’s shape was up to the task.

Moussa Dembele and Scott Sinclair were double-marked throughout as St Mirren sacrificed control down their left. We are at the stage of the season that there can be few surprises from any team, and certainly not from these two. The challenge for Celtic is to exploit other areas of the field.

While Brendan Rodgers was right to give credit to St Mirren for their performance, from what I gather there was a bit of an inquest behind closed doors. We lost a goal to a straightforward set-piece, could easily have been two down early in the second half, and created very little before the opening goal.

Much of the afternoon took on a familiar ‘Celtic treble upset’ look. You and I have been here before. Many times. We got away with it this time, partly because we were playing a team at home who have won only four of 25 Championship games this season, but mostly because we have so much in the tank this season we can raise our game.

St Mirren have marked a few cards; no game can be taken for granted.

    Thank you.

In the flurry of exchanges I’d missed that that was your response. I suppose for me choosing Celtic as my team didn’t have such obvious ‘accident of birth’ elements though my parents’ values were undoubtedly a factor. But being a Celtic supporter instantly made me a minority throughout my youth and life would have been much easier had I chosen a different route.

In terms of the parochialism and protection of your patch associated with football supports – I recognise that. It’s why I feel so proud of my support when we travel well and respectfully in other countries and are recognised accordingly, most recently by ‘the German club’!

I feel what I believe to be the ethos of our club – as shared by many supporters – fits my own.

Chicken or egg? Who knows. Have a good day.

Apparently after the St.Mirren game it was like the Spanish Inquisition.

To say that Brendan Rodgers wasn’t happy would be an understatement.

Me personally I try not to criticise any of our players, apart from non-triers, although this is irrelevant just now because they all seem to be making the effort.

    Brendan is the boss however.

I had a good drink yesterday with a few pals.

Did a wee pub crawl in Belfast city centre , started drinking at one, got back home about ten last night.

Woke up earlier there and checked the trouser pockets – think a only spent about a ton which is amazing considering we had something to eat and were drinking those expensive foreign beers like Heverlee and Birra Moretti.

Was definitely in the bookies at some stage so a must have one money on the evening greyhound racing.

  9. Morning all.

I may be quite wrong but I woke up this morning feeling my worse fears about an SNP Government are being fulfilled through Dr Morrow. There is institutionalised racism in Scotland. They either are not aware of it or (imo much more likely) they refuse to acknowledge it and so they dress it up as an issue for football. They choose to call it sectarianism, thereby misusing the word and allowing them to ignore the real problem.

  12. I have to laugh reading when reading that Catholic schools are the foundation on which sectarianism is bred.

It is only the stupid, those with an agenda, and those with hatred in their hearts who are the ones to place such an accusation on one side of an education system.

If you really have the will to learn the truth why not inform your view. I did a few years back. It is simple to determine the true reasons for hatred that runs so deeply in this little backwater.

Then determine through a little self reflection wether you are a) stupid, b) have an agenda or c) are just filled with hatred?

Officer: May I see your driver’s license?

Driver: I don’t have one. I had it suspended when I got my 5th DUI.

Officer: May I see the owner’s card for this vehicle?

Driver: It’s not my car. I stole it.

    Officer: The car is stolen?

Driver: That’s right. But come to think of it, I think I saw the owner’s card in the glove box when I was putting my gun in there.

Officer: There’s a gun in the glove box?

Driver: Yes sir. That’s where I put it after I shot and killed the woman who owns this car and stuffed her in the trunk.

Officer: There’s a BODY in the TRUNK?!?!?

    Driver: Yes, sir.

Hearing this, the officer immediately called his captain.

The car was quickly surrounded by police, and the captain approached the driver to handle the tense situation:

Captain: Sir, can I see your license?

    Driver: Sure. Here it is.

    It was valid.

    Captain: Who’s car is this?

Driver: It’s mine, officer. Here’s the owner’ card.

    The driver owned the car.

Captain: Could you slowly open your glove box so I can see if there’s a gun in it?

Driver: Yes, sir, but there’s no gun in it.

Sure enough, there was nothing in the glove box.

Captain: Would you mind opening your trunk? I was told you said there’s a body in it.

    Driver: No problem.

    Trunk is opened; no body.

Captain: I don’t understand it. The officer who stopped you said you told him you didn’t have a license, stole the car, had a gun in the glovebox, and that there was a dead body in the trunk.

Driver: Yeah, I’ll bet the liar told you I was speeding, too.”

What a wonderful season we are all enjoying, Brendan has done and continues to work his managerial magic transforming the squad individually and collectively to give us these performances we are enjoying every Saturday

I see Dr Morrow geeting it today i have posted the section pertaining to Education, hope the facts help

    Background

Dr Duncan Morrow is Director of Community Engagement at the University of Ulster and former Chair of the Advisory Group on Tackling Sectarianism, Scottish Government, 2013-15.

He is responsible for developing the University’s partnerships with groups and organisations across the community and he established the Understanding Conflict Trust, which was initially designed to lead and facilitate difficult dialogue and conversation around issues of history, politics and conflict and to identify practical steps to promote change.

He was most recently appointed as Chairman of the Ministerial Advisory Committee on Tackling Sectarianism, Scottish Government, 2013-15.

The was composed of Dr Duncan Morrow (Chair), Dr Cecelia Clegg, Ms Margaret Lynch, Rev Ian Galloway and Dr Michael Rosie and supported the Scottish Government to more clearly evidence the nature and extent of sectarianism in Scotland, and develop policy to tackle it. The Advisory Group published its conclusions on 29 May 2015. These can be read here:

    Independent Advisory Group Final Report

    Education

4.41 Our position stated in 2013 report has not changed from the belief that sectarianism

would not be eradicated by closing schools (AGOTS 13, 37). Above all, we believe that a

creative, active, holistic and co-ordinated approach to delivering education work to tackle

sectarianism is vital if there is to be long term change.

4.42 Tackling sectarianism as a policy agenda is still relatively new and this has to be

taken into account when deciding how to approach and deal with it. As work progresses

Education Scotland need to identify where sectarianism will be appropriately addressed as a

stand-alone issue and when it can be explicitly placed within the wider equalities agenda

    covered by the school curriculum.

4.43 To be able to integrate this agenda into the broader equalities work Education

Scotland need to ensure sectarianism is integrated into the curriculum in a clear, locally

appropriate way. Moving sectarianism into the wider equalities work too early and before

teachers and schools have the opportunity to not only address it but build their own skills,

experience and confidence will have a negative impact on the potential delivery and work.

4.44 Through organisations funded to work with schools we know local histories have

been used to engage and put the issue into context of the area and people the pupils know

and relate to. Education Scotland have built on this, developing lesson and journey plans for

use by teachers in the classroom. This approach could reap huge rewards if teachers are

supported and provided with correct curriculum material that they can use.

4.45 We believe that every school should be able to show how they have been dealing

with this issue. To aid this development an accessible (‘Horrible Histories’) type timeline of

sectarianism in Scotland should be developed that can be picked up and used by schools

and where appropriate the effects and impact of Scotland’s history had on local history can

    then be investigated.
