St Mirren have marked a few cards

449

Don’t give me any semi-final chat for now, we have a league game ahead, the biggest threat to which is to take your eye of what’s in front of us. For the next six days, the season is one game long.

St Mirren did their homework before coming to Celtic Park yesterday. The Paisley club are five points adrift at the foot of the Championship but for almost an hour were as compact and competitive as any Premiership club against Celtic this season.

There was nothing particularly innovative about their strategy; two banks of four, which seldom had more than five yards between them, with a couple of runners trying to occupy Celtic’s back line, but it wasn’t until the introduction of Patrick Roberts, and, crucially, Leigh Griffiths, that Celtic’s shape was up to the task.

Moussa Dembele and Scott Sinclair were double-marked throughout as St Mirren sacrificed control down their left. We are at the stage of the season that there can be few surprises from any team, and certainly not from these two. The challenge for Celtic is to exploit other areas of the field.

While Brendan Rodgers was right to give credit to St Mirren for their performance, from what I gather there was a bit of an inquest behind closed doors. We lost a goal to a straightforward set-piece, could easily have been two down early in the second half, and created very little before the opening goal.

Much of the afternoon took on a familiar ‘Celtic treble upset’ look. You and I have been here before. Many times. We got away with it this time, partly because we were playing a team at home who have won only four of 25 Championship games this season, but mostly because we have so much in the tank this season we can raise our game.

St Mirren have marked a few cards; no game can be taken for granted.

To me it looked like he panicked. When he realised the Hamilton player was going to get the ball he decided to pick it up and hope he would get away with it.

  2. Maybe, Brendan meant that, Jack Ross was the best domestic manager apart from big McGhee who’s team gave us our hardest game of the season at Fir Park, in the 4-3 game ?

Anyway,….it’s fantastic what Brendan has brought to our club, just fantastic….thanking you will never be enough.

Brendan, can l ask a couple of wee questions before l go…..

    1. Have you been ‘got at’ from within the club re: Civil unrest and being told to keep the score down in games vs the guns ?

    2. Will you challenge any mibbery head-on or, have you been instructed to follow club policy and keep a dignified silence re: all the hun chicanery ?

Brendan, please be in no doubt…..l love you.

Oh and, Bernard Ponsonby…yer flag flys high on the ole Jungle roof.

True that in the Catholic sector pupils do not have to be Catholic just as in the non-denominational sector some Catholic children have enrolled even where there is a Catholic school provision. A matter of choice.

However, those who blame faith schools are being disingenuous in blaming the schools for bigotry. For many adopting this line of argument it has more to do with uniformity and eradication of perceived foreign (ie Irish) culture which is anathema.

As a club we do not ask which school, or ethnicity of any prospective player. And that is how it should be. HH

I’ve had that p**h for years off the huns, that we caused the barriers between Catholics & Protestants due to the introduction of Catholic schools.

The workplaces were bad enough, can you imagine what we and our forefathers would have went through at school hadn’t the church built schools next to the Chapels.

That argument does not carry any weight anymore as all schools is open to all. Feck them. Hail Hail.

I’ll be in the BV on Friday afternoon if anybody up for it.

Not sure I would have liked to have been GMS at that closed doors inquest.

Leaving aside his wasteful use of the ball he was woefully short at their goal , letting their left back / winger run off him Into acres of space to collect the pass but then making a pretty half hearted attempt to block the cross.

Lustig was giving him daggers on the pitch. What he would say in private would be interesting to say the least.

Sadly GMS did his career with us no good at all on Sunday. I doubt it’s fatal but , injury aside, I can’t see anyway into that team for him.

Are you arguing for compulsory integration? Perhaps, the next step would be abolition of the charitable status of private schools, even the ones who formerly charged £27-50 per term. After all, if it is uniformity that we are after it all seems logical. HH

The UEFA Champions League is set to be even stronger from 2018/19, with a minimum of four participating teams now guaranteed from each of England, Spain, Germany and Italy, resulting in more games between the top European teams. Fans will also be able to enjoy UEFA Champions League ‘double header’ nights, as live matches will kick off at both 6pm and 8pm during the Group Stage.

From my view Lustig should have marked the wide player as JR was obvious what he wanted……. split out Centre defense.

BT may have paid big for both the CL and the EL but there are costs for all of us. BT now have an exclusive deal from 2018-2021, and when I say exclusive I mean it. There will be no terrestrial coverage at all, none, not even highlights on ITV and not even the final. And ,despite threats to refer the increasing costs of the landline, now not far from £20 per month, our spineless politicians and regulators are unlikely to take any actions which dent BTs profits. Can you imagine the uproar if BT was still publicly owned? And what would the utility companies give to be allowed to charge the same amount for the ‘rental’ gas or water pipeline or an armoured cable supplying electricity? Their right arm, or more likely our right arm.

Elsewhere England, Spain, Italy and Germany will be guaranteed four places in the group stages, guaranteed in the sense that clubs finishing fourth in any of those leagues will not even have to win a play-off to qualify.

Cartel does not even begin to cover it.

Headed up the Community Relations Council over here. A Govt quango much in favour of integrated education. Also a Candidate for Alliance Party methinks. Again big on integrated education.

Over here I went to a Catholic school. Don’t think I ever heard a sectarian word emanating from mouth of any of the teachers. I was never taught to hate in a Catholic school.

Why is their first point of reference not the institutionalised sectarianism that facilitates Orange walks and, over here anyway, especially when they o ly seem to want to coat trail through areas where they are not wanted? Could you imagine what would happen if the KKK went on the March in the black areas of the South. I think we are very tolerant of their little cultural fests with their polyester suits and funny hats.

In the `50s , Catholicism was , to my mind , defensive.

The Catechism learned off by heart. Why ? Probably to counter argument from non Catholics.

Mixed marriage provisions. Children to be brought up as Catholics . Defensive.

    Separate schools. Defensive.

    Time , I think, for a change from ” them and us ” .

No difference in Teacher Qualifications in Scottish Tertiary Education

  27. Hi Bhoys

I really don’t think the hatred in our country comes from any schools. I have never and I do mean never heard of any teacher teaching hatred to their classroom.

It comes from the homes were adults instill it into their children. I could give loads of examples of the hatred that we have maybe all encountered but I know I don’t have to on here.

It is not adressed in this country because people are frightened to speak up, ordinary people and politicians alike.

This is were we as a society fall down. People who don’t speak out are not cowards the cowards are the bastards who whisper their hatred into children’s ears poisoning young minds and whisper it among themselves in darkened locked rooms (ludges), or proclaim it in our streets when their numbers are large and aggresive.

These are the cowards the sleekit excuses for a human being. These are the people we must “out” if we as a country are ever to move forward.

Thankfully in my lifetime I have witnessed their numbers dwindle and hopefully by the time my grandchildren are adults our society will be rid of them forever.

    KEEP THE FAITH

  28. An Teach Solais on

    MACJAY

Surely it is the right of parents to choose whether to send their child to a faith school. It could be argued that the fee paying schools, even the one in 45 Hill Street,Glasgow, with its charitable advantages do more to perpetuate inequality than is perpetrated by faith schools. When even the bold doctor acknowledges that faith schools, per se, do not cause bigotry it seems strange that someone thousands of miles away would make the same claim.

The situation in the north of Ireland is somwehat different in that due to Carsonite apartheid the religion dictated where a person lived and, so, there is some move to educational integration. In some parts of Scotland there are no faith schools owing to the paucity of the local Catholic population but in the central belt children of the Reformed Tradition and Catholics tend to play and interact together.

Faith schools will continue for as long as parents desire them as, I suppose, so will private schools. HH
