Stand up for the Champions

I know when you begin to dominate a championship that when another team eventually lift the trophy it can seem like an intolerable failure; compare our distress in 2009 to our resolve to do better after the final home game in 1996.  Time adds perspective to our triumphs.  As does not being there and seeing photos of the presentation hours after the event.

These are special times, enjoy them.

Many thanks to the Columba Club in Blantyre for Friday night’s Question and Answer event, and to the irrepressible Phil Agnew, who organised the event.  I was delighted to share a stage with Paul McConville and Phil Mac Giolla Bhain.  Great to see so many CQN’ers there too, my only regret is that I didn’t get a chance to catch up with everyone. With supporters like those in Blantyre on Friday night, we’re in good hands.

Remember to buy Heart of a Lion, Willie Wallace’s magnificent autobiography, available below.

As Glasgow’s oldest professional club, Partick Thistle have more than 135 years’ proud history as a beacon of independent thought and excellent behaviour and we are all keen to maintain that reputation……

Oh dear! The Sevconians won’t be happy with that. Do they still demand apologies for statements like that?

  2. Just noticed in the highlights there that Rab Douglas is not playing in goal for Dundee. Is he injured or has this just happened since ra bomber took over, dropping him because of his Celtic past??

Rab is in dispute with Dundee. Don’t know the background.

If it were anti-Celtic bias, Gary Irvine, Ryan Conroy, Kevin McBride and Lewis Toshney would be similarly shunned.

  8. Did anybody see a quick clip on the big screens that looked like Davie Moyes about to congratulate the hoops on winning the title? It was pulled almost immediately but it definitely looked like Moyes.

  11. Big Rab was apparently carrying a minor injury and Der Bomber signed another goalie without telling him.

Big slanging match ensued and Big Rab ain’t played since .

  13. Craiginho, yes me and young Palacio were watching the screen and saw that also, strange to say the least.

Thanks for the replies re Douglas, for what I seen I thought he had a decent season with Dundee albeit with a couple of howlers here and there.

My recollection was that the ref booked both players on the half way line after the afters. Strangely, this wasn’t captured in the extended highlights shown on BBC tonight!

I noticed that Lustig was holding his stomach even before the elbow incident. it looks like the lad gone done twice!

A Jack Irvine ( working for perhaps the slimiest newspaper proprietor of all time) has this in his CV:

“. IN 1991 took a 10% stake in a new publishing enterprise owned by Rangers Soccer Club Chairman Sir David Murray. Launched one Sunday title which was hit by financial downturn and didn’t achieve necessary sales targets. Immediately launched Media House International to handle a hostile takeover bid for a client who was attempting to wrest control of Celtic Soccer Club. ”

    Would that constitute a ‘relationship’?

    _________________________________________________________________________________

Thanks for the info. I just wondered if Jack had a relationship with SDM then a word would surely have been whispered in his direction.

Then again, perhaps Craig was the better client – given their mutal appreciation for brokers and Jacks keen interest in hunting out a takeover target with FSA licenses which could be exported via the Caymans.

I’m not suggesting anything untoward with the above, merely trying to understand why Jack didn’t just pick up the phone to SDM.

  24. Frazer Wright is just a classic example of a classless, talentless Hun suited only to the pub-league general level of Scottish professional footballers.

If he’d done that in our pub league back in the day he’d never have seen out the 90.

What his actions did highlight, however, is our need for a midfield playmaker talent and enforcer centre-back, in the presence of whom such actions would be a cowardly afterthought behind self-preservation.
