Stand up for the Champions

I know when you begin to dominate a championship that when another team eventually lift the trophy it can seem like an intolerable failure; compare our distress in 2009 to our resolve to do better after the final home game in 1996.  Time adds perspective to our triumphs.  As does not being there and seeing photos of the presentation hours after the event.

These are special times, enjoy them.

Many thanks to the Columba Club in Blantyre for Friday night’s Question and Answer event, and to the irrepressible Phil Agnew, who organised the event.  I was delighted to share a stage with Paul McConville and Phil Mac Giolla Bhain.  Great to see so many CQN’ers there too, my only regret is that I didn’t get a chance to catch up with everyone. With supporters like those in Blantyre on Friday night, we’re in good hands.

Remember to buy Heart of a Lion, Willie Wallace’s magnificent autobiography, available below.

  9. Morning CQNer’s

    Just dropped in to say…

That was a ghreat night in the kosc in Blantyre on Friday.

BMCUW – told me that I should go along to the Fac # Demo

in George Square a couple of months ago when I told him that

after originally agreeing to attend that – I was getting cold feet.

BMCUW – Told me that I should try to re-connect with the club

that I have loved since I could kick a ball – by going to the Demo

and mingling with fellow Tims. Bobby – Ye were right on the money M8.

On Friday morning I came on here and asked BT – If it would be OK if

I attended the Q & A session on Friday night and, he couldny have made

me feel more welcome – both on here and at the kosc.

BMCUW and BT – You both have Celtic FC coursing through yer veins imo.

So do I of course but – the chemistry has been somewhat out of sync for quite

some time for me. I’m still a wee bit…confused – apprehensive – suspicious of

the current make-up of ‘OUR’ club at present – not seeking utopia just want

Celtic FC – run by Celtic supporters – that is all.

Anyway – Friday night was like coming home for me…a great big joint full of Tims.

The CQNer’s – had their own stand…right in front of the bar :)))

Nae good to me as I’m a….tea / coffee / water / fruit juice totaller :(((

Phil – Paul – Paul…were brilliant. Giant Tims All. God Bless.

It was magic to meet so many CQNer’s – I’ll try to remember the names…

105 row x or y is an excellent seat and if memory serves about

five rows down from the heated seats

However I was in 106 row z and my gripe was that I was frequently asked to relocate on European nights, if you can put up with that then its an excellent seat and as previously posted the sun can be direct in you eyes over the south stand so always carry a baseball cap

  15. Going up to re-new the bhoys ST on Friday. I’m aware of a particular seat that is unoccupied.

Sorry I never got the chance to talk to you on Friday, got caught up with old work colleagues and Terry O whom I had not seen for a while.

However folk who know my propensity to batter ears into submission will say that is not a bad thing.

I got involved in things in an active way a couple of years back during the honest mistakes time when our support was turned against itself by events.

One of my first online articles was called A Time to Talk A Time to Trust and I started to engage with Celtic thereafter on improving communications with supporters. There has been progress in many areas although more needs to be done, but it is not unwillingness that is the problem but capacity to actually make things happen.

Now that the foe malign has been sent into exile Celtic have the opportunity ( as the stadium environment plans demonstrate) to attend to some of the off field issues that have been the source of complaint but my experience is that patience is a number one requirement.

Ive exchanged views with you because my approach is to get involved and change what I think I can rather than let myself be separated from something that is worth belonging to as Friday night demonstrated.

The football is only a part of being Celtic, a big part for sure but all Celtic supporters know that sense of comfort they get when they find themselves in company, perhaps in a bar on holiday, of fellow Tims. Its that feeling of belonging and it is comforting because then you know that whilst views on players, performances, running of the club etc might differ no one ever really falls out because it is family at the end of the day.

If you want your ears battered with some of my stories of involvement with many parties from the top down get in touch via Paul.

you can make a “note of interest”, or at least that used to be the case a few years back.

Back in 2005 an ex Celtic board member and owner of Livingstone FC claims he was threatened by one of Tam McGraw’s heavies if he didn’t stop talking about Gavin Masterton, DAFC boss.

  20. Good morning fellow tims,

Long time lurker, first time posting, so be gentle with me!

Onemalloy, I had a seat in section 105, row Z for many years. Fantastic seats, brilliant view, directly opposite the tunnel, and just in front of the posh seats. I will never forget the Newcastle game on the day the North Stand opened. Me and my mates were in tears when we took our seats, almost in the same position as our old spot in the Jungle ( a bit higher of course), but this was different class!

Don’t remember getting wet, but good advice from BT regarding a skip cap, as the sun could be a bit of a nuisance!

Had to give my ST up eventually due to weekend working, but managed to get it transferred to my godson, who was looking to move seats at that time. That softened the blow a bit for me, and at least it’s still in the family.
