Statement leaves Newco exposed

446

Newco’s statement on their management team is worthy of some consideration:

“At a meeting with the management team’s representative earlier this week the Club were advised that Mr Warburton, Mr Weir and Mr McParland wished to resign their positions and leave the Club on condition that Rangers agreed to waive its rights to substantial compensation.”

A meeting with a representative of the management team, not with the manager, and not a resignation letter.

The club went on: “The Board urgently convened to consider the offer made on behalf of the management team and its ramifications and agreed to accept it and release the trio from the burden of compensation”.

If you agree to the terms of an offer made on behalf of someone, you really, really, need to get the signature of the individuals concerned. If you fail to get an agreement signed, you don’t have an agreement. If you don’t even appear to have a verbal agreement with your members of staff, you get on with your work as though nothing has happened.

They’d better hope Warburton, Weir and McParland get another job quickly, otherwise I predict another raft of court cases to be paid for.  This is a statement which suggests the authors have left themselves exposed.

Woke up this morning thinking the Hun events was a pleasant drunken dream, then looked at the blog :0)

  2. After all these years of being fed the nonsense about dignity, respect and how they go about business is it not fantastic sitting in the stalls watching this badly rehearsed school pantomime unfold in the full glare of the football world.

I am sure that I heard someone, may have been Murray say that Rangers don’t sack managers. This amounts to a sacking no matter how you look at it and no doubt it will get dirty. Only wish my old man and grandad were around to see it.

Meanwhile we will go about our business the way it should be done. There will not be a Fergus waiting in the wings to sort it all out just years of painful mediocrity for them.

  3. Rumour on JJ site (I know, not necessary the most reliable) – Warbiola is still owed 500k bonus for promotion. No resignation offers in person or writing. Therefore all three want compensation.

    Total amount: £1.7million.

If I were them, I’d be in court first thing Monday to ring-fence that cash (if it even exists).

  4. Good morning from a snowy North Staffs – just back from walking the dog to find out Warburton is toast.

I’m sure he’s thinking today ‘if I hadn’t been sacked I’d still have a job’ so it’s not as bad as all that.

And also ‘the way this has happened isn’t rangers’ ‘we learn from it and we move on. We don’t resign as a team we get sacked as a team’

  18. Brogan Rogan Trevino and Hogan on

    Good Morning,

The late great Alistair Cook once stated in a letter from America that he was given an early piece of journalistic advice from an elderly editor for whom he worked at the start of his career.

” I don’t care if the news is late” said the editor “just get me the news that is right!”

Cook went on to explain that on numerous occasions in his lengthy journalistic career, he saw very good journalists race to be the first to break a story only to find that the details printed in the first copy did not actually stand up to scrutiny and that the real story, warts and all, actually came along some time later — after a little research, a little digging and some considerable persistence on the part of journalists.

If any of you are members of a professional body whose function is to guide business managers you will be familiar with the phrase “change management” which is meant to foster a change of culture and practice within any organisation. Managers who can successfully bring about change in a business are in high demand and attract considerable wages.

One of the reasons that these people get paid well is because they are quite often unpopular and face resistance and even hostility from work colleagues when they at first suggest, and later insist, that things are done differently in future. In the main, people don’t naturally like change. It makes them uncomfortable.

Last night, anyone in the world of business saw a classic example of a business that is crying out for change.

Any examination of the business history of Rangers PLC and the companies who are today involved in the running of a football operation from Ibrox Park, will show that the entire business model and practice over a number of years is solely dependent on the press and media in general repeating what could politely be described as “spin”.

“Spin” is not an accurate reporting of events or facts. “Spin” is the process whereby you knit together some facts, possibly some untruths, and provide a specific interpretation of those facts and untruths, as presented, with a view to creating a version of “the news” for a purpose.

That version can, and often will be, far distant from the truth.

Over the course of many years now, it has become the absolute norm that matters at Rangers in whatever guise are “spun”. From the annual accounts, to the declared tax returns, to the potential transfer of players, the creation of hover pitches and casinos, to Billionaire buyers, South African warchests, mysterious investors in shares, to just about everything — it is all spin with little care for the truth.

All of that is well and good, except that every single time the law becomes involved and facts have to be established then the spun version of anything spins right out the door and leaves behind the truth or the real news for all to see — if they really want to see it.

As Paul has pointed out, If Warburton and his crew have resigned there will be a letter which says so.

If they have been sacked, there will be a dated letter which says so.

If Warburton and crew had reached the end of their tether and threatened to resign unless A, B and C happened or ceased to happen — Then there will be a letter that says so.

Last night’s press release and the subsequent articles which appeared almost immediately make little or no sense. They contradict one another in material aspects, and make no logical sense even before Warburton denies much of what they purport to say.

As has been pointed out, the whole thing is a mess and the lawyers are out ordering new Aston Martin’s this morning because they know that a big payday has arrived even before they know the full details of the case.

If Rangers, The SFA or anyone else wants to stop this whole merry-go-round of utter ignominy and continual crisis at Ibrox (and therefore in Scottish Football allegedly) then they would be well advised to bring in a real business manager who can enforce true change at Ibrox. Football managers will come and go, however, until Rangers get shot of the spin and deceive culture that has prevailed at Ibrox for decades, the football manager and any team he puts on the park will be a continuing irrelevance.

Kenny McIntyre has already gone public on twitter and warned Rangers fans in advance that they will be “disgusted” by the true story which has been brewing for weeks. This was immediately confirmed by Graham Speirs though he asked if that “true story” will ever come out which tells you that the culture of spin has thus far been all powerful and is likely to be used to suppress the truth.

Yet journalists supposedly already know the true story, but it is as yet untold.

“I don’t care if the news is late, just get me the news that is right!” said the man.

It is a sign of the times and an indicator as to how well a business is run when PR is operated in such a fashion as to ensure that the elderly editor never gets his wish.

However, unless you keep spinning them forever, spinning plates eventually fall to the ground …….. that is inevitable.

In this instance I believe the truth will out and it won’t please some that is for sure.

  19. Liquidation is their only hope, admin is no earthly use to them, they will still be in the same financial position, Mash will still have them by the …….

Good post. Gary Neville has recently spoken about the culture within the MSM to be first with the news. It’s a culture that goes beyond Scotland. The difference here is that they only get to the truth if it suits them where as elsewhere the truth might be late but it’s does out. Personally I hope little changes, it’s a destructive cycle and much fun for us. The team playing out of ibrox and the SMSM are a match made for each other if ever there was one.
