Stick to what you’re good at Celtic

597

Spartak Moscow have appointed Valery Karpin as caretaker manager.  The former Russian international has had an active role in the club since 2008, variously as chief executive and manager.  He took control of the first team when he replaced Michael Laudrup in 2009 until Unai Emeri’s appointment this summer when Karpin returned to his executive role.

He is an experienced pair of hands who is likely to stabilise things after the spirit had been drained from the club.  Spartak are already out of Europe but will pose no less a threat than Inverness when they arrive at Celtic Park next midweek.

Neil Lennon will not be particularly concerned by the impact of Celtic’s defeat by Inverness on Saturday on the league table but the experience will still be arresting.  Celtic have won three of five away games in Europe this season, losing the other two by a single goal, but there is clearly still work to do when faced with a home challenge in the SPL.  Valery Karpin will be keen to prove he can exploit this.

Celtic have established credentials in three areas this season: they can defend adroitly when setup to do so, they are a major threat at set-pieces and they are an effective counter-attacking side.  Any other attributes remain a matter for conjecture.

The first instruction against Spartak should be ‘stick to what you’re good at’.

Pleasing to read your reply to post.

Can see that you do/did appreciate the Stones and I would agree that their early days were their most productive and exciting but if countless numbers of fans are still prepared to pay to watch them it’s fine by me. If I could have afforded to go to the O2 I would have.

I took my then 22 year old son to see them the last time they were at the SECC and he really enjoyed the experience. If someone had told me I would be doing that when I first saw them in Glasgow (Greens Playhouse I think) when they topped a bill that also had Ike & Tina Turner and the Yardbirds on the show I would never have beleived them.

The last couple of weeks on BBC2 have had some very good old and new Stones shows on, hope you managed to catch them.

your comment regarding who watches or doesn’t watch the BBC does not make any sense, if we just look at the news alone, if that is not the biggest load of right wing state drivel then what is, it has nothing to do with right or left it is all about value for money and the BBC do not give it. I would say that their drama programmes are second to none but still not worth the licence fee, throw it all open break up the monopoly.

These days you can get arrested for taking a bottle of water into Parkhead, but back then we were carrying cases of beer into Celtic Park! Classic rocknroll day out Glasgow style. SAHB were, well, sensational, Little Feat brilliant and the Who pretty much at their best. Noted some the contributors mentioning the light show, lasers did not work too well In Glasgow’s June summerlight skies. Incidentally, also saw the Stones at the Apollo just a month earlier, May 12 if I remember rightly. Same night as the European Cup Final (Bayern-St Etienne) at Hampden, so, hard to believe but the pubs were open to all hours courtesy of the Council!

I have to agree with Ernie. BBC News channel, for instance is largely preferable to SKY,FOX,CNN,etc.

Their original programming content is quality-driven,rather than ratings/sponsor driven.

When many of us pay a grand a year for SKY,and barely watch it,apart from the football and the occasional high-quality import,£160 or so is a pittance.

I think you are speaking from pure dogma and not common sense, the free market has its problems but some good does come out of it, as for the BBC the majority of it is trash, yes every now and then they will produce a little gem but it is rare.

Just look at what is available on line and no licence fee required.

The BBC is state run and what they feed us is what they want us to hear.

  33. On the concert ticket theme, my first ever gig was Pink Floyd at the Usher Hall in 1974. They played Wish you Were Here (all of it) in the first half followed by the whole of Dark Side of the Moon. Then came back on to play Echoes as an encore.

Ticket price was £1.40. I’ve still got the ticket. In fact I’ve still got the tickets for every concert I’ve been to, including the Rolling Stones at the Apollo in 1975.
