Spartak Moscow have appointed Valery Karpin as caretaker manager. The former Russian international has had an active role in the club since 2008, variously as chief executive and manager. He took control of the first team when he replaced Michael Laudrup in 2009 until Unai Emeri’s appointment this summer when Karpin returned to his executive role.
He is an experienced pair of hands who is likely to stabilise things after the spirit had been drained from the club. Spartak are already out of Europe but will pose no less a threat than Inverness when they arrive at Celtic Park next midweek.
Neil Lennon will not be particularly concerned by the impact of Celtic’s defeat by Inverness on Saturday on the league table but the experience will still be arresting. Celtic have won three of five away games in Europe this season, losing the other two by a single goal, but there is clearly still work to do when faced with a home challenge in the SPL. Valery Karpin will be keen to prove he can exploit this.
Celtic have established credentials in three areas this season: they can defend adroitly when setup to do so, they are a major threat at set-pieces and they are an effective counter-attacking side. Any other attributes remain a matter for conjecture.
The first instruction against Spartak should be ‘stick to what you’re good at’.

I believe the estimated PAYE and NI due from Oldco as a result of EBTs was around £36M.

From some earlier posts, I assume the MSM in Scotland were suggesting that Lennie is being criticised by some fans.
If so, they (both the MSM and the idiot fans) are quite right. A Club like Celtic needs a manager who would have won the League last year; have us at the top of the SPL by now; guaranteed Europe after Christmas ans still in both the Cups. That`s the kind of manager we need.

The Prince of Goalkeepers
Okay thanks, but even if the tax due (and NI) on the EBTs amounted to £36M then the EBTs themselves must total a lot more than £44M. I really don’t want to manually count that list but I wonder if anyone else has?
Anyway the bottom line is that if they hadn’t ‘loaned’ out those huge amounts of money chasing a dream, they may still be here. Thank God they did.

Nice wee stramash at the end there – 4mins injury time and ref blew whistle on 94.03mins for full-time as the ball went out for a corner.
Quite right in my opinion – had Napoli @ 13/8!

I would be very surprised if you were unable to pick up spares outside Tynecastle on the night
Midweek near Christmas with the game on the Telly
The only away game I have not seen spare tickets being touted at this season was the 3 O’Clock kick off at Motherwell on a Saturday
TET, try googling ‘display drivers for…’ and the make/model of laptop.
You may be able to download replacement drivers file free.
Even if that machine doesn’t let you run the internet, use one that can, get a download and transfer & install the new drivers using a zipstick.
All I can think of. Have used the method myself for graphics cards & Windows service Packs when restoring a PC back to XP2 from XP3 which wouldn’t allow a particular game to run a couple of years back.

Thank’s you’re a gent.

tmwtl – just read that. Lenny on fine form.

I have a ticket.
It is for a 15 year old ,who goes to every game with me.
If I don’t get one at the stadium ,I couldn’t leave him outside.
If it were for an adult I would gamble and go and search for one.
I haven’t seen any spares at Tyncastle the last few times that I have been there.
Thank’s for trying to help.

I’m pretty sure the figure of £44M isn’t too far away from the amount oldco paid into the EBTs, and remember this is with no tax paid on it.
So the equivalent sum if paid to employees via salary and deducting PAYE and NI would be £44M + £36m (assessed tax due)= £80M gross (approx).
Saint Stivs
Not a bother.
Not too bad for the snow, usually just a covering, but it gets cold, -15, but the sun comes out in the day, usually only for about a month.
I am not too high up, about 1000 mts above sea level, the high mountains about 10 miles away have had snow on them for about a month, and will have till about May.

Effin brilliant. Lenny is The Mhan. Say what you like about him, he’s 100% one of The Bhoys.
I admire him. A lot.
HH!
Maybe some of you tweeters can tweet Lenny and ask him why McCourt for Watt when most of the stadium would have brought on McGeouch for Hooper and pushed Samaras inside where he might have been more of an ariel threat against a well organised Caley defence
Sandman
It’s a desktop.
If I do as you say, can I just install it on top of the driver already in the computer ?
TET – I would say yes. If the new drivers you find are correct, compatible and the updated version of the old ones, then the system should install them and replace the current ones.
That’s what it did for me. It may ask/propmt you to do so.
Gsu,
Let me know if you get booked up. You can buy me a beer and I’ll stop you marrying a showgirl :))

Hi neilybhoy from previous,
Might be in there for the game on wednesday. Did try to interest BMCUW but he was copping a deaf’un, I think:)
Will maybe catch you on here wed morning?

When you pay wages to staff .
You never expect the wages to be repaid.
Rangers were effectively paying wages into he trust.
There was never any expectation of the so called loans being repaid.
The payments to the trust meant that they did not have to make any employers tax contributions or make an N .I. payment.
The problem wasn’t the EBT payment per say.
The problem was they were spending more that they were earning.
That is why they went bust, the EBT’s just prolonged it.

Much obliged.

estorilbhoy,
Lol, you been watching The Hangover? :) Was in Vegas for the last one a couple of years ago. Our vacation overlapped with the first couple days of the convention. We were staying at the Las Vegas Hilton and the party was at the Riviera, where I’m sure it is again.
The pint sounds like a good idea, especially in that heat. You have to drink em fast before they get too warm.

Absolute certainty on Wednesday, the Sevconian cousins will be destroyed, minimum 3 nil.
Most league seasons have their nadir, we have had it.
Onwards and upwards with Lenny.
This will still be a bumper year , ghuys of that I am convinced.
