Spartak Moscow have appointed Valery Karpin as caretaker manager. The former Russian international has had an active role in the club since 2008, variously as chief executive and manager. He took control of the first team when he replaced Michael Laudrup in 2009 until Unai Emeri’s appointment this summer when Karpin returned to his executive role.
He is an experienced pair of hands who is likely to stabilise things after the spirit had been drained from the club. Spartak are already out of Europe but will pose no less a threat than Inverness when they arrive at Celtic Park next midweek.
Neil Lennon will not be particularly concerned by the impact of Celtic’s defeat by Inverness on Saturday on the league table but the experience will still be arresting. Celtic have won three of five away games in Europe this season, losing the other two by a single goal, but there is clearly still work to do when faced with a home challenge in the SPL. Valery Karpin will be keen to prove he can exploit this.
Celtic have established credentials in three areas this season: they can defend adroitly when setup to do so, they are a major threat at set-pieces and they are an effective counter-attacking side. Any other attributes remain a matter for conjecture.
The first instruction against Spartak should be ‘stick to what you’re good at’.

Somebody posted on here last week that the last 16 earns us over £3 mill. add on the gate reciepts.
The europa, not even close to that, but as we would be seeded, we would have a chance of a couple more games.
Finance, or euro progression, that isn’t assured, I know what the suits want, and there are plenty of quality teams left in the europa league.
We will beat the Russians, I just hope Barca don’t lose.
Me, am just delighted we have euro footy next year, nay Annan and Berwick for us, with respect to them btw.

When you look at the calibre of teams that manage it, a CL last 16 place is far superior to Europa Q-finalists.
Apoel made it all the way to CL q-finals last year but every year we see smallish teams at that stage in the Europa

I know it would have that effect, but I just dont think we are ready,maybe if all our big hitters are all fit, and at the top of there game,but that is a big if, cannae slag the SPL,when we are doing the same thing in Europe.

Celtic will pick up points after the CL group stages by which time we will be in last 16 of CL or EL but will then focus for circa 3 months on SPL when we will pull away from the rest.

re slide guitar,
open D tuning works well. Also, a guitar with a fairly high action will give you a bit less fret rattle.Damping with the heel of the right hand is useful for playing single notes
A glass slide will give you a cleaner sound than a metal one……depends what you want to play.
