Strict liability when playing to gallery

2207

Being responsible is not always easy, especially when it comes to running a football club, where playing to the gallery offers vastly better short-term returns, and no doubt a rush of endorphins.

If your fans are engaged in an activity which regularly brings them to the attention of the courts, and your club into disrepute, it doesn’t matter what you think of the apparent offense.  You may chant an offending song in the shower every morning month, but your only public comment on the matter can be to chastise and urge fans to desist.

Clubs in Scotland voted against what is known as strict liability.  This means they are not held responsible for transgressions by their fans – and who wants to be held responsible for the actions of others who protected from personal liability by hiding in a crowd.

Part of the deal on not having strict liability is that clubs must demonstrate that they take all steps necessary to dissuade and educate their fans from carrying out criminal or regulatory offenses.  It’s simply not possible for club to tell fans their illegal actions were justified, as this would place the club itself in the firing line.

The nonsense following the Scottish Cup final is all background noise as far as we are concerned, but be aware the contagion will spread beyond those you could consider highly dysfunctional operators.

Solving Kids Cancer in memory of Oscar Knox

Our own Bundoran Bhoy will run the Edinburgh Marathon on Sunday on behalf of Solving Kids Cancer.  He has put in an enormous amount of work ahead of the event, for a cause which you are only too familiar with.

26 miles is a long way to run.  You can give him some encouragement on his Just Giving page.

Good luck, Tommy.

There is a minimum allocation to away fans, though I can’t remember the percentage. I guess we give them the entire bottom section for logistical/segregation reasons.

That’s what I’ve always said we should do. Regardless of our own ST sales. Treat them like any other new arrival in the Premiership and give them a normal allocation.

Can anyone advise me on the following:

If UEFA choose to ignore this, despite the best efforts of the bhoys who have campaigned tirelessly , is that it?

Or, is there enough evidence that some sort of legal redress will be sought against them too?

Shocking article on employee safety in the bookmaking industry.

It’s a “Long Read” so maybe better open in new browser.

IMO,it shows a disgraceful dereliction of duty of care to employees in favour of cost-cutting. Ladbrokes save £15m from it,pay a murdered employee’s family £140k.

I’m quite sure I’m not the only one on here to have stopped some tanked-up six-footer as he’s about to go on the rampage against a sole female staff member. It’s one of the reasons I boycott Ladbrokes.

  8. Rangers used to get lower and upper tier, I’d imagine as they are the ‘same club’ Sevco will get the same.

If we were to do that, I think it would represent a reduction of their old allocation, when they got around half the Rangers end top and bottom plus the corner – 7k seats.

    That’s roughly about right,IIRC.

    BUT…

    I have a cunning plan…

We start off by giving them 7000 seats. We deduct the number which are damaged from their next allocation. So about 80% of that. And so on,till they learn how to behave themselves.

We also only open the toilets which weren’t wrecked previously, reducing them to pishing where they stand. Hopefully a real rain will soon clear that smell and besides which, before long, they either learn to behave themselves or realise that they’re gonna smell like everyone else in The Louden.

I was in Birmingham recently and popped into a Betfred.

There was a fella pumping notes, and plenty of them, into a gaming machine. Roulette.

Each spin must’ve been costing him £30 to £50. Returns were zero to negligible.

He was becoming increasingly agitated, cursing, pacing around, and getting louder by the minute.

Eventually he decided to vent his anger on the machine. Banging it , swearing at it, getting seriously upset.

The poor bloke behind the counter was telling him, from a distance, not to hit the machine.

Eventually the bloke , clearly out of funds by now, stormed out the shop, but was , by now, in a dreadfully upset state.

Heaven knows the full impact of his loss that day had on the rest of his day:week:general health, but I hope he wasn’t going home to a wife or kids for a few hours.

In the short time I was there, until he left, I reckon he’d done at least £300. It was a Friday so it’s possible his wages for the week had just been lost.

When he did leave, quite a few “lurkers” were quick to jump on to the same machine, armed with the knowledge that these machines pay out a percentage of whatever is put into them.

Quite sad to see it actually, and whilst I’m a gambler myself, the introduction of gaming machines, virtual events and the like, has got to have worsened the problem of addiction.

I remember saying to my kids will I move and get tkts in there

as they wouldn’t sell kids tkts where I sat. Kids were like

” no games against them Whats the point of a season tkt.”

I was like fair enough and eventually they started selling

There’s a major problem with them. Part of the problem is the amount that can be won, believe it or not.

No-one plays for the 97% return. They play for the 10x that return.

And it does happen,of course it does.

As a result,in order to even out the score, some poor buggers get hammered.

    It’s a game of chance. A lottery.

Who would put £300,say,on the lottery? Or into a fruit machine?

I don’t understand how we can already have sold more season tickets than last season already.

This is just the renewal deadline.

So only those that bought last season can renew so far.

When the deadline is over ,and there is a public sale ,then we have the opportunity to increase on last seasons total.

It’s all hype as far as I can see.

Definitely. Season tickets for Upper Lisbon Lions were on sale last week for anyone who wanted to purchase a new season ticket. Alternatively you could put your name down for any other part of the stadium and this would be dealt with once the renewal date had past.
