Strict liability when playing to gallery

2207

Being responsible is not always easy, especially when it comes to running a football club, where playing to the gallery offers vastly better short-term returns, and no doubt a rush of endorphins.

If your fans are engaged in an activity which regularly brings them to the attention of the courts, and your club into disrepute, it doesn’t matter what you think of the apparent offense.  You may chant an offending song in the shower every morning month, but your only public comment on the matter can be to chastise and urge fans to desist.

Clubs in Scotland voted against what is known as strict liability.  This means they are not held responsible for transgressions by their fans – and who wants to be held responsible for the actions of others who protected from personal liability by hiding in a crowd.

Part of the deal on not having strict liability is that clubs must demonstrate that they take all steps necessary to dissuade and educate their fans from carrying out criminal or regulatory offenses.  It’s simply not possible for club to tell fans their illegal actions were justified, as this would place the club itself in the firing line.

The nonsense following the Scottish Cup final is all background noise as far as we are concerned, but be aware the contagion will spread beyond those you could consider highly dysfunctional operators.

Solving Kids Cancer in memory of Oscar Knox

Our own Bundoran Bhoy will run the Edinburgh Marathon on Sunday on behalf of Solving Kids Cancer.  He has put in an enormous amount of work ahead of the event, for a cause which you are only too familiar with.

26 miles is a long way to run.  You can give him some encouragement on his Just Giving page.

Good luck, Tommy.

I thought one of the cups was the Cinema Cup (local cup) shows what I know, by the way there was another quite successful wee amateur team from the Brig who donned the hoops, the Townhead Connolly…. A bit before my time but they weren’t the worst

  2. My friends in Celtic,

While supporting Ronny last season it became obvious that we needed a fresh start. Ronny has been displaced by one of the biggest names in British football, absolutely no shame in that.

A fresh start for all of us ( although I have a long memory re certain players, in my view they are on probation ) including the most critical of our supporters. Praise is fine and hopefully the feel good factor will last all season and beyond, but we also need constructive criticism, perhaps more so now. I hope Neg 2 etc feel they can once more back our team in person.

Hopefully a fresh start for all of us.

Ps : The dedication of our NHS people never fail to amaze me. EDB is indeed in the best possible hands and best wishes and many years of watching the hoops to him. No matter who is in power we must be vigilant to protect the treasure that is the NHS from all quarters. Again we need the equivalent of Neg 2 to ensure that we never ever become complacent and give up fighting.

I believe there was a lot of truth in the Mulgrew story

    ———

Do you believe Celtic’s training methods were causing Mulgrew’s injuries or do you believe that Charlie believed that was the issue to his problems?

Now delicate flower Lusitg had his best fitness season for Celtic.

Like you I was not for renewing.

I attended Brendan’s welcome to paradise. Even that did not sway me much in the direction of taking the step, even though I felt the excitement burning within for the first time in years.

The thing that pushed me was watching the HUNS and they are HUNS as there is no other term appropriate for their maurauding self righteous pish. Watching them establish once again “without blame” their we are the people group mentality did it for me. I know many good Sevco fans. But enmasse they are a truly horrible beast.

I wasn’t prepared to stand back outside the wire and leave it to the Bhoys to face them down.

Or it maybe that it was a better option than buying a Zombie book as I promised if they signed Barton – I did not account for that Egjits ego and stupidity. I’d still love to know just how they are even able to plan paying 2 months wages never mind 10.

This week, on a personal level, has only strengthened my resolve to Stand behind The Men behind our Wire. They and us are going to need every man to stand strong and face them down.

Back to football. Am actually looking forward to the Euro’s, however I see they have added in another round of games. No doubt due to TV demands which will just be a slog and of no interest.

For all that , the cream of the world s footballers will be on show. Messi, Newmar and Suarez excepted.

Have you seen the Liverpool documentary “Being Liverpool”? Search for it online, it really gives an insight on our new manager. Sure he mentions at one point being careful of over training the players.

If you cant find it email me on cqnclunks@gmail.com and I can point you to some downloads, was very impressed watching it when we were rumoured to have Brendan Rodgers (with a D!) interested in the job.

Watching the team this year we looked very lethargic and scared to over stretch.

Maybe we were being over trained and the lethargy was pointing to that fact. Also with the players being scared to get injured and not giving their all, possibly due to the handling of injuries?

Feel the backroom team being assembled will knock that on the head!

  10. fergusslayedtheblues on

to say we had a few injuries last term is an understament to say the least

I was having a charity night a couple of months ago and wrote to the club to enquire if they could donate anything for the night .

They sent me a signed treatment table

Without getting into detail, from what I was informed, by someone closer to the players than us, unless your involved ?

There was much frustration with the Norwegian physio’s and messages, direction given etc as opposed to that given BT the ex team who Ronny demoted

And Charlie did seek independent advice on his injury, whether you believe it not

There in lay one of the major problems with Ronny Delia reign at Celtic

    ———

So why did Lustig not feel over trained?

Seems a bit strange that Celtic fans would believe such a rumour from Charlie and not look at the evidence.

We’ve had players on the treatment table for years well before Ronny arrived.

Before handing out contracts existing players and new signings commons sense would be to look at their fitness records over the previous 2-3 years yet we all seem to be glad that Charlie is getting a new contract. Now that is strange.

I hope you’re right and Brendan’s new training method cuts down on our crocks, if it does then he’ll have one hell of a squad to 11 players from :O)

I’m not denying Charlie sort advice outside Celtic, I’m disputing his injury problems are down to training at Celtic.

I’m assuming our Norwegian backroom staff are medically trained? I’m also assuming that most of them will still be employed this season, not heard of mass sacking yet.

Again I point out Lustig, and also the praise Ronny was receiving in the change in James Forrest’s fitness.

  15. thetimreaper on

I was told that towards the end of the season Lustig went back to fitness routine from Rosenborg. He looked as fit as I’ve seen him on the last day of the season.

Its been a very tough year watching our team. You can see something is not quite right, there was little cohesiveness and no collective desire to get the job done.

Because of this rumours like this are believable and inevitably give rise to “better” rumours.

As we are not in the sqaud and very few of us have access to those in the squad rumours and our imaginations are the best we have to go on!

Thats only really happened this year regards the injury prone players. And again it looked like a mass downing of tools over the year as well.

Good stuff, any win is a good win, I didn’t bet Hibs last weekend, as a daft gambler, I was just happy with the result, I told a few mates I was going g to bet Stokesy hat trick at 125/1, (I didn’t) when David Gray scores the commentator mentions Stokesy scoring a hat trick, I was shouting on Anto…… Moral of the story gambling means heehaw to me…. If anybody does not want to lose money don’t bet…..

  26. The Huddle

Sorry was ooot with the dugs, now, at start of season we were told Lustig could not play 2 games per week, and bought Saidy Janko as cover, Mikael specifically to be used in Europe

Remember Mikael was actually still recovering from a 2nd hip operation.

Shipped out young Darnell, then Saidy got injured, tried Efe a few times at right back, as Mikael fitness improved, he was then used as our only decent right back, through necessity

At no time in last 3 months has Mikael Lustig looked fully fit, so credit to him for playing, he would have wanted in the Sweden squad for Euros. ?

A personal opinion on how Mikael Lustig played 40 games

  27. JimmyQuinnsBits on

    My opinion,

I reckon Rogic has the makings of a tremendous player, and I don’t believe he has the basic fitness problems that Paddy had.

Good training and coaching, and a tactical knowledge of how to play him are key.

He’ll sink or swim this year

  28. JIMMYQUINNSBITS

He is moving into final 12months of current contract, and was offered a me deal earlier this year.

If he doesn’t re-sign I can see him being moved out ?
