Strict liability when playing to gallery

2207

Being responsible is not always easy, especially when it comes to running a football club, where playing to the gallery offers vastly better short-term returns, and no doubt a rush of endorphins.

If your fans are engaged in an activity which regularly brings them to the attention of the courts, and your club into disrepute, it doesn’t matter what you think of the apparent offense.  You may chant an offending song in the shower every morning month, but your only public comment on the matter can be to chastise and urge fans to desist.

Clubs in Scotland voted against what is known as strict liability.  This means they are not held responsible for transgressions by their fans – and who wants to be held responsible for the actions of others who protected from personal liability by hiding in a crowd.

Part of the deal on not having strict liability is that clubs must demonstrate that they take all steps necessary to dissuade and educate their fans from carrying out criminal or regulatory offenses.  It’s simply not possible for club to tell fans their illegal actions were justified, as this would place the club itself in the firing line.

The nonsense following the Scottish Cup final is all background noise as far as we are concerned, but be aware the contagion will spread beyond those you could consider highly dysfunctional operators.

Solving Kids Cancer in memory of Oscar Knox

Our own Bundoran Bhoy will run the Edinburgh Marathon on Sunday on behalf of Solving Kids Cancer.  He has put in an enormous amount of work ahead of the event, for a cause which you are only too familiar with.

26 miles is a long way to run.  You can give him some encouragement on his Just Giving page.

Good luck, Tommy.

Motherwell fan that sits next too me in work informed of the seeding of the LC yesterday, “hope we get Rangers and put them in their place early doors” he doesn’t have much time for us like I have for his mob but loved his mindset of the Championship winners

  5. Good evening all,

Just heard the club have extended the ST deadline, really pleased about that, might have been about to make a huge mistake. Only made 14 games last season, next won’t be any better, and no chance of getting to CL games(I’m an optimist) or midweek in general, but the thought of not getting one was choking me as I headed home from Hereford today.

Mrs Doc says she would rather I went out the odd Saturday than mopped about wishing I was somewhere else.

Now I have a couple of days to try to be rational about this, will I get pay as you go tickets, or go for it?

Have we sold enough ST’s to make pay as you go difficult?

Going up to Carfin Grotto Tomorrow , will light a special candle for you, and l will be sitting in front of you as usual next season

Doc, I’m in same boat. Working on M8/M74 upgrade and have to do 3 weekends in 4

I contacted ticket office last week and they said there would be an extension.

Makes you wonder why they can’t offer partial season ticks for say 10 games, I know another couple of guys who have similar issues.

There’s only one way to guarantee you’ll be there mate – and that’s to renew.

Yep, would make sense for some fans to buy joint season tickets, go week about

It was an open goal mate. ⚽️

  12. Doc –

until about 10 days ago I was in the very same boat as you and planned not to buy a season ticket but to still attend every home game (with an obvious exception) on a pay as you go basis. Had even agreed with my Bhoy to take turns at picking the seats for each game, sampling different experiences every week and then being better placed to know where to renew in 2017-18. But with the wave of optimism that has been building and building since then we thought the same as you – what if we cannie get in!!! So we’ve both renewed but might yet try to relocate once that option becomes available.

2016-17 really could be a season to remember.

  13. Just looking back , question asked do, could England win the Euro’s. . I give you Demark and Greece as examples of poor teams winning big tournaments. The answer is a definite yes, however my £ 5 wil be on the Germans , with a tenner on France as a saver.

As for season tickets, according to Twitter we have sold just over 34,000 so far. That means another 16,000 up for grabs. I will be working all over the place next season and wil not be there for any Sunday games and some mid weeks. If it’s Europa League then the Thursday sits well for me but the Sunday SPL is shite. Champions League, would be nice but I would probably miss two of the three home games……nice decision to have to make. I will wait till the CL qualifiers are done.

  14. Eddie , it might work in an extended SSA, administrating who got what seat when, nightmare.

Natknow, that’ll get you a discount off your ST!

The_Huddle, as a casual arrangement between mates yes, but in an organised way by the club, not so sure, who would get priority for league deciders, games against Aberdeen, Hearts etc?

The Safe Standing Area is not a cheaper option btw, £448.

  15. blantyretim is praying for the Knox family on

I’ve personally not had a ST since GS last season as I was working on Saturdays at the time

I’ll stick to my guns and renew only when we no longer have PL in charge but as I’ve said continuously it won’t stop me buying mini her ST and tickets for CL or EL and cup matches

My pig headed stance won’t allow me to stop my kids enjoyment and love of the Celtic

  16. Doc, Eddieinkirkmichael Et Al.

Do your good deed if you can afford it and give your ST to a Good home on the days you can’t make it. However it’s totally up to you guys.

    Hail, hail .

  17. Jobo, absolutely, Sevco being in the league really doesn’t concern me.

I know they are a new club, so do they, I’ll decide whether to attend on the same criteria as for every game.

If I’m here I’ll go. I aim to beat this years 14( I can then convince the Boss it was vague for money).

Miss Doc has now claimed my CL tickets:-)

Would always be game about, just the luck of the draw if you got the big games or not :O)

  19. GreenPinta, happily I managed to do that on several of the occasions I couldn’t attend last year.

That was a nice feeling, to help a few Tims get to CP.

I’ve been absolutely stunned by the amount of fans I know who are intending to buy a season ticket for next year. Whilst telling people this in work today I decided to make a joke by asking one guy who puts Celtic down at every turn,Newcoers give us a easier time “You’ll be telling me your getting a season ticket next, lol.”” Ehm, I am going to get one.” I nearly dropped in shock.

Good luck mate. I always tell people that my wife was diagnosed 12 years ago (the night Larsson scored that diving header in the euros) and she’s fine even had another kid in that time. Anyway as I say, good luck.

  23. Think Germany may win at a canter and France as runners up. Engurland will be early Brexits ;)
