Stunning charity effort by Celtic fans

936

A big well done to everyone who participated in the efforts to send Vanessa Riddle to Philadelphia for crucial medical treatment.  The £500k required was raised yesterday.

Brogan Rogan’ brought the issue to the blog and Taggsybhoy arranged the CQN Music Quiz earlier this month, our first formal activity for Vanessa.  Penfold gave us a signed Celtic top at the quiz which raised an incredible £5000 on eBay (plus gift aid) from a Celtic fan who, quite simply, gets what following this club is all about.

Not only did he pay £5000 but he told us to keep the shirt and use it again!  We then raffled the shirt on eBay and raised almost £1400.  You are all part of an incredible story by an incredible support.

The draw for the signed shirt took place at Uefa headquarters in Nyon, you can watch the video of below and find out if you won.

Our thanks again to Andrew in Belfast for his tireless help with the site this week.  The new ‘whyte’ template is in place and we’ll continue to restore functionality.

I seem to remember catching a glimpse of a post re. Fojut, from yourself, or maybe it was someone else.

On Nacho Ned, you won’t have him long – so you are wise to stay calm. It is quite similar to our blog having MWD ;-)))

MWD – the only person to play golf in gear normally associated with “walking” if ye get ma drift…..

Canamalar – you have in a strange way reminded me of a story about my wife. She came through after looking at the calendar proclaiming that her birthday was on the same weekday as my son’s – again! I gave up after a few attempts of explaing that because her birthday is in May and his in June and both on the same date every year, their birthdays will always be on the same weekday….ah the joys of being married…

  4. canamalar – only in the non-leap leap years, see according to the gregorian calendar rules, 1900 wasn’t a leap year but 2000 was, as the rule is if the last 2 digits are 00 then the first 2 must also be divisible by 4.zzzzzzzzzzzzzz I’m even boring myself now….

  5. Sorry, just spotted this on Vital Football, apologies if posted before:

“Rangers vs AC Milan legends game will still go ahead despite Rangers financial issues.

The proceeds will be split 50/50 between the two clubs’ charity foundations but Rangers charity will hand over the bulk of theirs back to the club in a wonderful gesture.”

Sorry, but in what parallel universe is stealing from a charity a ‘wonderful gesture’??!?!?! Contrast this with the money raised for young Vanessa and this underlines again the difference between us and them.

  6. Hey all. I was just thinking. If Elbows were to get a new job at Tesco on the checkout, would he then become known as “A Hun at the till”?

    Coat got already.

  7. The traffic seems less now there is a new format to the blog, less busy with people commenting. Amazed that not one rangers fan is a genuine socialist who now despises their club for their tax evading ways, used by the rich who are determined to keep their immoral wealth to themselves.

Redistribution of wealth has to once again become a key point of society and not a dirty word that people don’t embrace.

  9. Sorry guys, I’m not that buys into the “the Huns must die” camp!

Don’t get me wrong, I dislike their rotten ways as much as the next Celtic man but liquidation is their ‘get out of jail free’ card; ably assisted by the MSM and SFA they will reclaim a seat at the top table again.

Rising from the ashes debt free, they will soon find a most suitable investor/s to help fund their challenge for honours once again, reclaiming what is rightfully theirs; no uppity timmies will keep them down for long. No surrender dontcha know???

3 years of penury is the biggest admonishment they will receive and then business as normal! Don’t expect to read all about it in ra papers though!

Not for me guys, no way. Let the ball and chains of administration be firmly tied to both feet for many years, let them limp on. Let them suffer turning up to face us KNOWING “here comes a humping!” as 10 in a row is won on their patch completing the treble for the 10th successive time.

    They are a horrible lot.

Administration has brung out the worst in them, lets shine a candle on it.

To borrow a phrase from one of the most recent and dare I say most infamous 21st century philosophers, poet, pee stained disability claimant, fat fecker, wife beater and despicable hun…

THE BIG HOOSE MUST STAY OPEN… THAT’S THE BOTTOM LINE!

  13. What if certain current SPL managers are under investigation through none payment of tax whilst playing for them?

Will they still be allowed to pick their (best) lineups when they play the unwashed?

    Serious question.

  14. Dunfermline have not been able to pay their players their full wages for February after Rangers’ financial crisis sparked cash flow problems at East End Park.

Dunfermline were due about £80,000 ticket money from Rangers following their game in Fife on February 11, three days before the Ibrox club went into administration.

Chairman John Yorkston told BBC Scotland: “The Rangers situation has had a knock-on effect. I can confirm full wages were not paid.

“We have made other arrangements to get monies in and it should be all squared up on Monday.”

Dunfermline, who host Motherwell on Saturday, earlier revealed an annual loss of more than £430,000 for last year after paying £185,000 in bonuses following their promotion to the Clydesdale Bank Premier League.

  19. Today’s the day for redundancies at Rangers.

A sad day for the unlucky ones. I don’t like the thought of anyone losing their jobs, even big money footballers. When all is said and done, those sacrificed are innocent victims of mismanagement and neglect.

I won’t stop celebrating and enjoying the demise of that club, but I won’t be including job losses as a reason to be cheerful.

  22. Just a quick observation.

If there is (more likely ‘was’) a lost 6 million (I can see a film title in this) being hold up in RFC Group and there are player contracts held with RFC group then it kinda all makes sense to me. If Group hold the contracts then Group must be paying the wages rather than RFC PLC (in administration) for those contracted to group.

    Anyway. Good Morning CQN.

Morning Bhoys, lets see what today’s spin brings us. read about the fifers. How angry would you be after not getting paid right because someone else never paid taxes, cheated and still had no money for games that are going to go ahead and you’ll never see the money owed. Anyway im off for my first dayshift in nearly 12 years. 4th coffee coming up.
