Stunning charity effort by Celtic fans

936

A big well done to everyone who participated in the efforts to send Vanessa Riddle to Philadelphia for crucial medical treatment.  The £500k required was raised yesterday.

Brogan Rogan’ brought the issue to the blog and Taggsybhoy arranged the CQN Music Quiz earlier this month, our first formal activity for Vanessa.  Penfold gave us a signed Celtic top at the quiz which raised an incredible £5000 on eBay (plus gift aid) from a Celtic fan who, quite simply, gets what following this club is all about.

Not only did he pay £5000 but he told us to keep the shirt and use it again!  We then raffled the shirt on eBay and raised almost £1400.  You are all part of an incredible story by an incredible support.

The draw for the signed shirt took place at Uefa headquarters in Nyon, you can watch the video of below and find out if you won.

Our thanks again to Andrew in Belfast for his tireless help with the site this week.  The new ‘whyte’ template is in place and we’ll continue to restore functionality.

It is also understood manager Ally McCoist will demand his own salary be reduced dramatically but club sources stressed last night that he was struggling to come to terms with the numbers.

That´s my favourite bit this morning.

Don’t like to see anyone lose their jobs but how many jobs have the huns pulverised due to their tax aversion prowess ?

Do they care about the jobs that may be lost at Dunfermline ?

Do they care about the possible loss of HMFC ?

So Hun FC can release players yet STILL keep those that they have not paid for yet,…. that surely needs sorted out for the future

    And the Charity match ???

Dont forget that these are Craig Whyte´s hand chosen administrators so THERE IS NOT A CATS CHANCE IN HELL THAT THE HUNS WILL BE LIQUIDISED UNDER WHYTES CONGLOMERATION WITHOUT THE BIG TAX APPEAL RESULT …which the RTC guy said in the beginning of January would be released early April late March

The legal dispute is a manufactured one to buy them some time until then

I am betting on April fools day … quite a lucrative month is March without those wages …. and the biggest eejits …. the biggest eejits of all are our away support who will turn up at Ibrox this month.

  5. Dunfermline can’t pay all their wages because the club formerly known as Rangers FC owe them money.

So surely the Dunfermline chairman is raging about this and telling the world what a disgrace Rankers are?

79 Caps-Yorkston and Jabba and Jingle Jangle Jackhun in yesterday’s Record are shameless huns.Trying to give it tight to Celtic for not giving a Company in Administration £300,000? They already owe money to Hearts,ICT,Dundee Utd,and Dunfermline(though they have written it off for the good of Scottish football). You couldn’t make it up………..well they do on a daily basis.HH.These people know no shame.

  9. Folly Folly & Henr1k – the old switcheroo was outlawed by FIFA. it is no longer possible to purchase a club higher up a league hierarchy and switch your assets to it to gain a place higher up than you have on sporting merit. A Spanish team did it, FIFA went ballistic and it was specifically outlawed.

Here are three thoughts for to-day; – (1) ADMINISTRATORS- I think they are playing a game of two halves – First half- kicking downhill-good news;Second half – kicking uphill – bad news; RESULT – BAD NEWS.

    (2) DUNFERMLINE- Just as well that their M.P. is telling the truth about their situation as their officials don’t seem to be;

    (3) S.F.A. – We must keep up the pressure on them as they have ansers to give about Rangers’ player registrations; scrutiny of Rangers’ finances; the continued presence of Campbell Ogilvie during this fiasco.

“It is also understood manager Ally McCoist will demand his own salary be reduced dramatically but club sources stressed last night that he was struggling to come to terms with the numbers.”

    Two things about this.

    1. This is a rather unusual insolvency event and it is quite believable that Duff&Duffer have been trying to foist a salary increase on the manager. After all, they did try to add a player to the wage bill !

    2. It reads as though that McCoist is having difficulty working out how much of a decrease he is demanding.

  17. Just finished listening to the tic talk podcast, thoroughly enjoyed it. A lot of talk about the sky deal and how they insist on the 4 games between our good selves and that lot and if they don’t get these then the contract is ripped up then probably renegotiated.

The way I see it is if rangers remain in the spl they are going to be left with a squad competing with the likes of Dundee utd and Kilmarnock competing for a top 6. The Celtic and rangers games won’t be as competitive in a sporting sense and this could lead to a drop in viewing figures for sky and so they’ll probably want to renegotiate anyway. Suppose it’s easy to look back on it but in my opinion the agreement to the terms of this tv deal are farcical

  20. Happy St David’s Day to any Welsh Bhoys.

Don’t revel in people losing their jobs but I’m sure most of the players will do OK from Rangers. They really are just winding down to liquidation now. I can’t see any other way out. I reckon they are trying to work a deal for the newco and fulfilling their fixtures for this season.

Just looking at Celtic I reckon it will be a tough one this weekend but with a potential treble on the horizon and places to be fought for I think any squad players slotted in will be well up for it. Will the Pole get a start? I reckon it’s worth a go. let’s see what the Bhoy can do. Give him 60mins with Stokes or Hooper.

    LB

  21. If McCoist is so loathe to axe players and is demanding that his wages be cut then it seems logical that he should resign.

His salary would then be available to pay some of those players of whom he is so protective.

  22. RogueLeader (09:33): “FF reporting that

Goian Broadfoot Papac McCulloch Healy Aluko Bartley Alexander Kerkar Little Naismith Durrant

    All to be released today”

Would anyone consider Celtic picking up soon-to-be free agents Papac and Alexander as cover for the left back and goalkeeper positions?

With King Charlie being better utilised at CB, and more needed for that position after Big Dan’s injury, we could do with another natural left back in the squad. And Alexander is surely a better option than Cervi, and possibly even Zaluska.

  23. I wonder what terms are being offered to McCoist as a counter to his offer?

If you think about it, and if the cull goes as hoped/expected then Rangers will be, playing staff wise, one of the smallest full-time professional outfits in Scotland before the day is out with a dramatically reduced back-room coaching staff. The implications of this downsizing, coupled with the likelihood that despite these cuts more will be needed, then you have to look at Moisty’s wage as being pulled in line with managers of clubs of a ‘similar’ size, like Morton.

On a very closely related note to that point: does anyone else recall a LL article in 193/94-ish (I seem to recall reading it before a game v Plastic Whistle at Firhill) where we were apparently the 7th biggest team in Scotland, all things considered and weighted to suit (i.e. they matched our debt against assets etc). I think Matt McGlone made a big thing of it in OaT, which is possibly where I read it.

Anyway, many clubs are technically insolvent in Scotland (but have the ability to trade out) at the moment which, whilst not quite being illegal, is certainly an unhealthy position for our game to be in. There are only two clubs that I’m aware of that are both insolvent and yet do not possess the wherewithal to trade out.

Essentially, and based on us being 7th in 93/94, are Hearts and Rangers now the 41st and 42nd ‘biggest’ clubs in our league system? And if so, who is 42nd?

Apologies if it has been posted already. Well done to all the Bhoys who were away on international duty. No reports of any injuries as of yet, I guess the Celtic staff will see what nick they are in when they return to Lennoxtown.

Good to see Wanyama & Ki winning their competitive matches.

Congratulations to Charlie on his Scottish debut. No matter what you think of international team, it staggering to think this is his first cap, easily the most technically gifted defender Scotland has.

Forrest praised after sparkling Scotland debut

By: Newsroom Staff on 01 Mar, 2012 09:19

JAMES Forrest earned plaudits from Craig Levein after his performance in Scotland’s 1-1 draw against Slovenia. Forrest and fellow Celt, Charlie Mulgrew, made their international debuts in the friendly match, and they both impressed during the game.

Speaking after the match, the Scotland national manager was pleased with the result and the performance, in particular that of the 20-year-old Celtic player

“The prize tonight was James Forrest’s performance,” said Levein. “It’s very much justified taking this game and also bringing him with us rather than leaving him with the Under-21s.

“We are striving to get certain types of players for international football. Pace and technical ability are vital, as are guys who can eliminate defenders.

“James has played a lot of big games for Celtic, so I didn’t expect anything other than a decent performance, but he surpassed that tonight.”

Elsewhere, on a night of international football, it was an emotional occasion at Cardiff City’s stadium as Wales played Costa Rica. The match was a memorial match in honour of Gary Speed, who tragically died last November. He had been manager of the Welsh national side at the time.

Celtic defender Adam Matthews started the game, while Joe Ledley came on as a substitute with 20 minutes of the match remaining, which Wales lost 1-0.

Thomas Rogne was another player who made his international debut, playing the full 90 minutes of Norway’s 3-0 victory in Belfast over Northern Ireland. Paddy McCourt came on as a substitute in the second-half for the home side.

Celtic defender Darren O’Dea, currently on loan at Leeds United, helped the Republic of Ireland to a 1-1 draw in Dublin against the Czech Republic, with former Celts, Aiden McGeady and Robbie Keane also playing for the Irish.

And Georgios Samaras helped Greece to a 1-1 draw with Belgium in a match which was played in his home town of Heraklion, Crete.

In a World Cup qualifying match in Seoul, Ki Sung Yueng came off the bench to help South Korea beat Kuwait. The match was goal-less at the time, but Ki’s introduction helped to galvanise the home side, who scored two goals to remain on course for qualification to the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

Victor Wanyama was in action as Kenya kicked of their qualification campaign for the 2013 African Cup of Nations. And he was an impressive performer in Kenya’s 2-1 first leg victory over Togo. The return leg is on June 15.

Emilio Izaguirre’s Honduras side lost 2-0 to Ecuador in a friendly, while Efrain Juarez came on as a substitute in Mexico’s 2-0 defeat against Colombia in Miami.

I imagine that sporting courts/ legal minded people would be able to drive a horse and cart through any contract which demanded two particular teams must finish above 6 other teams as a minimum. It is ethically abhorrent and in sporting terms simply wrong.

  28. The efforts in raising the money for Vanessa and before that for Kano, and also for the Thai Tims show that specific and individual causes resonate more and more

The Vanessa appeal may have significance beyond the opportunity for this little girl to lead a normal life. It may be the benchmark for deserving causes. It certainly shows what a group of determined individuals, most of whom i would guess have never met Vanessa, as was the case with Kano, can achieve for a great cause
