Stunning charity effort by Celtic fans

936

A big well done to everyone who participated in the efforts to send Vanessa Riddle to Philadelphia for crucial medical treatment.  The £500k required was raised yesterday.

Brogan Rogan’ brought the issue to the blog and Taggsybhoy arranged the CQN Music Quiz earlier this month, our first formal activity for Vanessa.  Penfold gave us a signed Celtic top at the quiz which raised an incredible £5000 on eBay (plus gift aid) from a Celtic fan who, quite simply, gets what following this club is all about.

Not only did he pay £5000 but he told us to keep the shirt and use it again!  We then raffled the shirt on eBay and raised almost £1400.  You are all part of an incredible story by an incredible support.

The draw for the signed shirt took place at Uefa headquarters in Nyon, you can watch the video of below and find out if you won.

Our thanks again to Andrew in Belfast for his tireless help with the site this week.  The new ‘whyte’ template is in place and we’ll continue to restore functionality.

  1. sorry if ive missed this but whatever happened to serenity?

if ever a day was made for his verse, this could the one.

  2. Would not mind Alexander as back up. from what I have saw of him he is a decent keeper. And think of how much fun we could have at Ibrokes if we brought him on at halftime when we were 4-0 up.

  3. Sorry guys, I’m not one that buys into the “the Huns must die” camp!

Don’t get me wrong, I dislike their rotten ways as much as the next Celtic man but liquidation is their ‘get out of jail free’ card; ably assisted by the MSM and SFA they will reclaim a seat at the top table again.

Rising from the ashes debt free, they will soon find a most suitable investor/s to help fund their challenge for honours once again, reclaiming what is rightfully theirs; no uppity timmies will keep them down for long.

    No surrender dontcha know???

3 years of penury is the biggest admonishment they will receive and then business as normal! Don’t expect to read all about it in ra papers though!

Not for me guys, no way. Let the ball and chains of administration be firmly tied to both feet for many years, let them limp on. Let them suffer turning up to face us KNOWING “here comes a humping!” as 10 in a row is won on their patch completing the treble for the 10th successive time.

    They are a horrible lot.

Administration has brung out the worst in them, lets shine a candle on it.

To borrow a phrase from one of the most recent and dare I say most infamous 21st century philosophers, poet, pee stained disability claimant, fat fecker, wife beater and despicable hun…

THE BIG HOOSE MUST STAY OPEN… THAT’S THE BOTTOM LINE!

  4. FF are hilarious. “You can’t let wee Aluko go, he is our most entertaining player”.

Entertainment value clearly being high on the list of factors D&P will use when deciding who is being axed. These guys don’t get it do they? It is actually pathetic that their beloved club is so mired yet they refuse to even learn the most basic of things the administrators have to do.

  6. Thanks Vmhan!

It’s great as always to know I’m sharing my celebrations with Martin O’Neill and Roger Daltry, amongst others.

Won’t be such a happy day up at Murray Park for some. As a former trade union officer I can’t celebrate anyone losing their job – but when it comes to football players on big salaries I have a lot less sympathy than I do for those on low wages who will undoubtedly also be made redundant.

And while we will hear all about how difficult it is for Elbows and co to find another club, no one will be interviewing the admin assistant or the cook who needed the job far more.

  7. There is one other factor not oft discussed in this debacle. The administrators have offered the existing players wage cuts. When the same thing happened at Livingston Der Hun sprung into action and told Marvin “Keep Believing” Andrews’ agent that this in fact constitutes a breach in contract. Marvin got released from his contract and Rangers then picked him up.

Now what do you think would be more lucrative for Davis or McGregor? Stay there, risking possible injury and the scrap heap a la Naismith, before being sold in the summer for a reduced fee to help Der Hun….

    Or….

Negotiate release, train with somebody for a few weeks, sign at a low to mid EPL team doubling your wages and getting a huge fat signing on fee as no fee needed paid to Der Hun.

You can take it as fact their agents will be advising on scenario 2. When they look at the team that will be left after today do not be surprised one iota if they both chuck it next week. If they do they will rightly be looking out for themselves.

I don’t think Alexander is better than Zaluska. His lost a poor goal against Falkirk and they also seem to concede more goals when he comes in for MacGregor (my favourite being Big Jan’s). Cervi I have not really seen enough of but at least he is young.

Papac I think is one of the most over rated players in the SPL. He is okay going forward but a lot of the goals they concede seem to be from his side. He is certainly not better than Izzy or Mulgrew. Blackman again, I have not seen him play but he is also young.

So those two players might be better than our 3rd choice keep and LB. Seems pointless to bring them to replace squad members right down the list, both of whom have youth on their side.

    Liquidate them,history gone,biggest prize of all,simple.

Was listening to Clyde earlier, listening to Keevins sell his jersey was funny,at first I was raging listening to him say Celtic should be the big man regarding the ticket money,a ghuy called John finally got on and said precisely why Celtic were justified.

From condemnation to asking Celtic to explain their position after agreeing with the caller just made me realise Hugh knew along Celtic are in the right and it just played into the hands of the media theory that says the agenda is driven by demographics,a point which would’ve helped a couple of callers before John.

As for Hugh’s hitherto position on derby ticketgate I hope Celtic don’t release any statement.and give the huns the money the day of the game,Celtic don’t have to justify themselves to that annoying idiot.

Great point about Marvin Andrews. I know a lot of livi fans wwho didn’t go back after that. He was spouting about how his religion was the key to his strength and football. He wasn’t in the game for the money, etc. Rangers offered him great cash and he jumped. Rangers have a policy of doing this to teams. Look at Wallace from Hearts. They had to sell someone and Rangers were right in there to buy a guy they couldn’t even pay for! They have always had no dignity or class. Even signing le petit merde was dirty and unethical. Eventually things that go around come around and although it’s not nice to see people lose their jobs it is a bit of karma for a club who have always kicked people when they were down. I don’t feel too sorry for anyone but won’t celebrate when they lose their jobs. If McGregor, Whittaker and Davis do get kept on and don’t seek a better deal elsewhere then fair play to the but they run the risk of getting injured and being left with no club. What will their agents say? Interesting times ahead!

  11. If he is made redundant then we should employ Jimmy Bell, the kit man.

And make him, polish wee Jinky’s statue every match day about half an hour before kick off.

In fairness, its not the most difficult of tasks to push the buttons of football fans. Keevins has made a career out of it.

  14. 11/2 for hearts as mentioned earlier may be a decent punt but when you look at the players left for Rangers if the cull is accurate from the names shown earlier then I would guess that seasoned gamblers will lump on Rangers at improved odds. Hearts are total mince! They are headed for the bottom 6 if Aberdeen can get their act together and win some of their remaining matches before the split and Hearts keep dropping points. Would seeing Hearts in the bottom 6 and Rangers finishing 3rd make a perfect end to the season. You bet it would. Treble in the bag for Celtic would be the ultimate goal but seeing the two sides of haters suffering would be the cherry on the top.

    Magnificent! Perhaps paraphrased as:

“I’ve played in London and in France and I’m the captain of the USA national team. But it’s only when you actually sign for the Rangers and get to Glasgow and people tell you how big they are worldwide that you realise you have lived your life with blinkers on.”

“It should never be forgotten that financial mismanagement almost closed this club 10 years ago. No-one is more ambitious for Celtic than the board members, but we won’t risk financial ruin for the club.”

  20. Radio Clyde must be great at generating Ad revenue on SSB- the SFA were advertising tickets for a game last night that had already taken place (Scotland v Netherlands U-21).

We will go to that cesspit with the league wrapped up or with the chance to win it there. Let them have there paltry 300G. It’s peanuts in the grand scheme of things. No Celtic team should go to that place without the whole Broomloan Rd behind them, and they never will.

You just need to look at the unprecedented demand by our fans. I’m telling you, if they had made it £100 it would still be full, absolutely no doubts.

It’s not about them, never will be, we care about Celtic.

It will be the biggest party by our fans ever at that game.
