Stunning charity effort by Celtic fans

936

A big well done to everyone who participated in the efforts to send Vanessa Riddle to Philadelphia for crucial medical treatment.  The £500k required was raised yesterday.

Brogan Rogan’ brought the issue to the blog and Taggsybhoy arranged the CQN Music Quiz earlier this month, our first formal activity for Vanessa.  Penfold gave us a signed Celtic top at the quiz which raised an incredible £5000 on eBay (plus gift aid) from a Celtic fan who, quite simply, gets what following this club is all about.

Not only did he pay £5000 but he told us to keep the shirt and use it again!  We then raffled the shirt on eBay and raised almost £1400.  You are all part of an incredible story by an incredible support.

The draw for the signed shirt took place at Uefa headquarters in Nyon, you can watch the video of below and find out if you won.

Our thanks again to Andrew in Belfast for his tireless help with the site this week.  The new ‘whyte’ template is in place and we’ll continue to restore functionality.

do celtic own the land its being built on ?

its a good prospect to bring anything like this to the area, I just hoped that CFC would be a partner that in turn made furture revenues from whatever is built.

  5. Morning all.

So much catching up to do and so little time to type…

TimsinOhio – I loved reading your post the other night about how kind life had been to you and yours. Lovely stuff!

BRTH & TaggsyBhoy – The whole Vanessa Appeal has been amazing and the roles that you in particular and many other CQNers have played has been so significant in the total being reached so quickly. If pride is truly a sin I hope you’re both on your way to Confession because you should feel very proud of your efforts!

Gordon J – Many Happy Returns! I can take or leave Roger Daltry but sharing a Birthday with St. Martin himself! I see Paul is suggesting you may be getting some memorable gifts later. Here’s hoping the ultimate gift cost the total of a shiny £1 coin.

As for the ticket money in advance nonsense, surely not even Wonga would give a payday loan to someone who wouldn’t reach their next payday…and Celtic ain’t no Wonga! To get money in advance you must have some kind of credit score. Tough luck Poundland, your credit ran out a long time ago.

Dunfermline have promised that club staff will receive 80% of their February pay packet by Monday, with the remaining money arriving within 10 days. The club are without much of the revenue they expected to receive from cash-strapped Rangers after the team’s match in Fife on February 11, three days before the ‘Gers went into administration. Dunfermline’s home game against Motherwell on Saturday will bring in much-needed funds, while The Pars are still talking to Rangers’ administrators.

    Nice.

Normal question for a football supporter to be asking / gloating when their rivals are in the gutter. Cant see anything “penisy” or “arrogant” about it.

  15. Just had a wee squint at RM (I know I know!!)

Anyway, there is a thread running that in an incredulous fashion actually blames Dunfermline for not budgeting for not getting Rangers (in administration) FC ticket money

No doubt it’s also Dundee utd’s fault as well and prob the jam farts that rangers (in administration) FC don’t pay bills anymore

From now on all spl clubs are to not include for getting any monies from Rangers (in administration) FC or whatever they will be known as for both the near and long term future

“RFC (in administration) … Screwing around with every other clubs future since 1873”

  18. Paladin,

Ticket money is one thing. You expect that to come in.

But why on earth would Hearts sell them a player without getting every penny up front? It was a fair bet that the smelly stuff would hit the rotating blades sooner or later.

  19. Dunfermline need the Murders game at the weekend to cover part of February’s pay, part mind, not the whole amount – they will then pay the remaining amount ten days later (wonder where this is coming from if not from Murders receipts: sponsors?)

They then have one more home tie before March’s pay is due.

And then another home game in April (on the 7th) v Hearts.

By this point they will have played 17 home games ergo only another two before the end of the season.

Something tells me that the orcs may not be the only ones looking for court protection from their creditors this season.
