Stunning endeavours on the Ben

614

Absolutely stunning tales of endeavour from those who climbed the tallest peak on these isles yesterday for the Ben Nevis Huddle to raise funds for Celtic FC Foundation.  The Foundation anchors our club to its founding principles, working locally and worldwide towards four goals:

Improve Health
Promote Equality
Encourage Learning

Tackle Poverty

It survives because lots of ordinary Celtic fans step forward, or put their hands in their pockets, because they believe Celtic is a lofty and noble cause.

If you’ve not been able to support any of the climbers direct, inspiration for the event is primarily the responsibility of Mark Cameron, you can find his Foundation linked MyDonate page here.

If you’re in business check out The Celtic Network’s new Service Finder’s opportunity to market to Celtic fans.

Visit the CQN Bookstore to get Tommy Gemmell to sign your personal copy of his book, All the Best.

16/1 to go undefeated; think that may be blown out of the water after first game wi’ the minis.

  2. Morning all. Beautiful once again down here. We could do with a month or 2 of this. Good for the heart and soul.

Didn’t do the ole heart good to wake up to the news that Sammi’s team were eliminated last night. Expected it but hoped they would come through. Couldn’t we make him an offer he won’t refuse???

“My three grandwaines at the BBC protest today”

I wonder where they got that idea….

“A handful of Rangers football fans staged a protest outside BBC Scotland’s headquarters in Glasgow.

The small group of 35 supporters held banners outside the broadcaster’s base claiming recent media coverage over songs sung at matches was unfair.”

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/scotland/glasgow_and_west/7628191.stm

“Around 200 of Rangers fans gathered outside the BBC in Glasgow on Saturday to demonstrate against what they claim is biased reporting of the club.

The protest, organised by the Vanguard Bears supporters’ group, saw fans gather outside the corporation’s head quarters at Pacific Quay and hand in a signed letter of complaint over alleged unfair coverage, including a documentary aired last month about owner Craig Whyte.”

Heard a bit of ole Metallica doin’ ‘Whiskey in the Jar’ at Glastonbury

….. it shows to go that it’s not just the ole Green Brigade who can kick 50 shades of sh1t out of a great ole Irish choon.

…as if that wasn’t bad enough I caught some of Shortbread on Saturday.

    Dearie me.

Why the BBC are still payin’ wee Chic is beyond me; he struggles to construct a sentence like a wee bug caught in an ole spider’s web of grammar and syntax; the more he struggles the worser he sounds.

  6. I am seldom, if ever, critical of Celtic on a public forum. I don`t need to be when the MSSM does such a wonderful job of it. Nevertheless, I find this from the opening day fixture list a disgrace.

    Celtic – Partick Thistle

    Postponed

Instead of a possible full house against our Glasgow neighbours, we will be elsewhere and will eventually play Thistle in a midweek game.

There may well be something I don`t know about Celtic`s desperate need for money that means we will be playing a friendly ( I think?) on the Opening Day instead of giving those of us whose money keeps Celtic alive an occasion to enjoy. Or am I talking nonsense and this has all to do with The Commonwealth games?

Jungle Jim- it’s probably a combination of the Commonwealth Games and our need to chase every loose bit of shrapnel, like bairns at an ole weddin’ scramble.

  10. Just checked my spam box and have a mail from Fedex each day for 5 days saying I have an urgent package to be delivered/collected.

He is a sports journo, prob not allowed, it needs some young freelance, or someone who has little fear to take it on, maybe someone who wants a swan song to bow out with.

It goes way beyond the hun, just imagine the film it would make.

  12. hmmm,

so it was a bright sunny day on the day of the Ben Nevis climb, yet there is a large hazy cloud above them according to the picture. I wonder what caused that?

in an unrelated story, police are investigating an unexpected spike is sales of Rizla papers recently in the Lochaber area. Sales have since returned to their normal levels.

  13. TET,

There was a guy who did work for the New Statesman in the 80s. Duncan McClean (?). He also did investigative work for the BBC. He might fancy taking it on.

I just read this on the BBC website so maybe I have been unfair on Celtic:

” Celtic will have to wait four days to make their league debut since the opening match at home to Partick Thistle has been postponed because their stadium is being used for the Commonwealth Games.”

    TET, Parkheadcum….,

My biggest disappointment is Hugh Mc.Illvaney.

He has been the top man for decades, with an opinion on all the major sporting developments.

He has the stature in his profession to speak with authority, yet, in this situation, he is just a broadsheet version of a common hack.

All this seems to prove that the scandal runs so deep that it is political.

Aye, Hugh sprung to mind with me as well.

I could see the wagons being circled some time ago, when Dr John was in situ in fact.

Now there’s a man who could rattle a few cages, I wonder why he hasn’t ?
