Suker, Uefa and regionalisation

935

Croatian hero of the 1990s, Davor Suker, currently Croatian Football Federation president, is campaigning for a place on the Uefa Executive Committee, one of 12 people chasing 7 places.

Sukor has been campaigning across south-eastern Europe, with a simple message: collapse the cream from the national leagues of 13 countries into one powerful 42-team regional league structure.  He has support across the region, including Turkey and the former Yugoslav countries.

Smaller countries across Europe have realised that they must regionalise or accept a future of irrelevance.  The Gazprom-funded deal between the Ukrainian and Russian regional league floundered at the onset or war but regionalisation is not going away.  We need innovative campaigners like Suker to rise to positions of authority, replace the ranks of the incompetent and talentless.

Well done to newco for rewarding those who used their media outlets to campaign relentlessly on their behalf in recent years with a seat in the directors’ box on Tuesday.  I’m sure David Leggat deserved the accolade of being the only mainstream media journo so honoured, which is quite something.  New season lamb is in stock early this year.

I have a spare Adult and 2 spare child tickets for next Wednesday’s Cup Replay for anyone interested? Pick up from Dunfermline/Central Edinburgh or at the ground on the night.

  2. With the memory of the Charlie Hebdo disgrace still fresh in minds, can you imagine a newly appointed director of Man U one day into the job having his blasphemous, pornographic tweets,of the Prophet made public. The same week,John Terry out with his mated on a weeknight, had a few drinks, sitting waiting on a taxi.

Just what story would be plastered all over the front page of the English Sun?.

During the week we had probably the largest gathering of Masons at Ibrox in a long time.Wattie,Craig Brown,(of FTP)fame,Greig,Leckie, etc, scandals breaking all around their shameful club.A new Nomad appointed from a company with links to Green,Ahmed,FFS.

Yet this is the headline news in the world of sport in Scotland.

When I say a bit of a blue nose shop I mean it’s used before their games. It isn’t out and out Sevco. Plenty of seats to watch and service is normally excellent. I use it a lot for football and rugby.

Pub on Sunday for TV coverage – Glasgow

Looking for a pub in Glasgow which my ma and da can watch the game on Sunday. They’re staying at premier inn on Buchanan st (heading to Donegal on Monday). They know Glasgow fairly well but my ma is partially sited, so somewhere close to Buchanan St would be ideal.

    Thanks in advance

Re your ‘what the SNP have done, etc’ post,I could argue that some of the issues are not positive, some instigated but not completed by Labour and others a wholly Labour initiative.

I won’t,as I get your point re Alfie.

What I will say though is that I spoke to a lifelong Labour man t’other day. He posts on here regularly. Far to the Left, even,of myself.

He is so disillusioned with them now that he can not see them getting his vote again,it’s SNP for him.

I despair. But I don’t blame him. I know who I DO blame though.

  12. Some people really do need to take a long hard look at themselves in the mirror this morning and think about how stupid and gullible they are, to be taken in time and time again by people who’s only agenda is to visit harm on our club.

  16. I can accept that there may be arguments about VVD and Conolly and Butcher and Paton but the Ciftci decision is just one more proof that The SFA is fit only for sitting on an Edinburgh jury.

  17. Who cares about The Sun. They are irrelevant to Celtic, they are irrelevant to Scottish football. Their contribution to sponsorship is £12,000 a year.

They are rightly ignored by the people who run our club and treated as an irrelevance. The quality of their journalists is laughably poor.

The newspaper industry is dying. Technology has driven the decline, but the self harm done by Editors and Journalists is a major factor. Newspapers , particularly tabloids are no longer a source of news. The content is a collection of drivel aimed at people who are too lazy or too stupid to educate themselves about topics of interest.

  18. ThaGreenJoCa –

I saw the Sun’s front page on CQN. Haven’t read the story. I don’t read the Sun. Never have. Never will.

But you want Scott Brown to publicise it as he goes up to lift the Cup?

    Not for me.

  21. Barcabhoy,

You may well be right but, imo, they still have undue influence. And it is not a benign influence where Celtic is concerned. Too many people still “read” them and that cannot just be dismissed. They are not irrelevance,no matter how much we might them to be. How do we deal with that? Celtic, for a start, should refuse them any facilities, including being at press conferences. We don’t gain anything from them and lose a lot. If we don’t cooperate with them, we might even get a better press.

Scott Brown – Front Page of the Sun

    ————————————————-

Scott Brown has disgraced his position and disgraced our club.

Surely Ronny, with his disciplined MUST banish Brown from Celtic.

We are a family club and we encourage our young fans to follow the lead of our best players.

The sight of Brown, lying drunk outside a strip club cannot be excused away.

He must be dropped (from a great height) and transfer – listed.

He must NEVER again play for Celtic – no ifs and no buts.
