There are several parts of Tuesday’s performance which could be improved upon, parts which will be exposed by the rigours of Champions League football, but we looked like an experienced European team, one who could go away from home, roll with the early season uncertainties, but still have enough in the tank to win comfortably.
For the last couple of years we have watched a team mature while Neil Lennon has continued to add young blood to the squad. Fraser Forster has become an adept shot-stopper, puncher and kicker-with-both-feet. Joe Ledley has developed into a disciplined anchor in midfield while Adam Matthews, Victor Wanyama and Beram Kayal have progressed even quicker than I am sure the manager expected.
Last season’s Europa League campaign contributed significantly to the development. The team seemed to grow a few inches during the home win over Rennes, which propelled them onto the league title. A Champions League examination will present no fears but will expedite progress.
We could be on the verge of the first sustainable, successful, team development plan in 40 years, one that delivers titles, significant progress in Europe and lives within its means.

I have just bought Woolworth’s and now I own all the assets such as shops, pic n mix, shelves, tills, the name of the company and logo etc…I offered a pittance of a CVA to all the company’s creditors and they all told me to go and stuff myself. According to an Orc I happen to know he assures me there is no consequence in me being refused a CVA or adopting everything that makes Woolworth’s what it is…the creditors won’t mind. Nothing would has changed…all I did was offer a trifling amount to pay off the debts as a symbolic gesture and now everything is peachy! No comebacks! No nuffin! I’ve just the assets of Woolworth’s, with all its physical assets…at a much reduced rate…with no debts…what a deal? How did I manage to get such a brilliant deal with little or no competition? I’m just a lucky guy I guess.

Oldtim67,
I know you’re not looking to be bombarded with whisky info, but I’m enjoying working my way through a litre of Glenlivet Nadurra, 16yo, non-chill filtered that I treated myself to in the duty free on the way out to this job. 48%. I find a wee drop water essential although I always sneak a wee first sip straight.

The progression will come by being able to sign better prospects than Wanyama and having potentially 10 first team squad players who are Academy trained rather than 4
Every year there are top class prospects coming out of Africa , South America and Europe. Ajax , Anderlecht, Udinese and Porto generally get a higher percentage and better quality than we do. That’s changing and if the business plan works we can be as or more Ttractive to young talent than them

Surely the progression comes with player development?
Our young team will be a whole lot better and whole lot more experienced at the end of this season. Hopefully we qualify for the CL and they will be playing and learning from the best in the world.

Good evening to you as well.
I am a bit late as have been trawling through tortuous CB regs.
Dont want on loan players. There’s something very demeaning about it unless there’s a buy out clause.
Would rather we bought works in progress nurtured them in the Celtic mould then obviously sell them on when they’re good enough for big boys leagues

Decided if there was an alter ego to Asil Nadir, so I googled Asil Zenith…..
No-one called that but in the pedigree breeding database for Arabian horses there is a nag called Asil Zenith that done a lot of studding in the 1960s.
You never know when that knowledge could come in handy.

Estadio,
My definition of woking my way through is – this is night 3 and there is half the bottle left, so that equates to a quarter litre a night. See this having to get up in the morning and no smelling like a distillery…..
But I do take the point!

Agree. It’s time we invested in some more of John Park’s targets. I’m sure we must have the list ready.
Hopefully we get through to champs league proper and then use the 48 hrs before transfer deadline productively.

Your correct, wouldn’t even use a glass drunk straight from the bottle, but when you get on in years a bit of refinement goes down well, wouldn’t look nice drinking from a bottle, unless it was in a brown paper bag.
Can anyone put me right on this
When was the dealine for signing players for the CL qualifier ,I ask as I think someone posted the dates before the Helsinki game and I thought the date was a few weeks passed .It’s just that I heard Helsingborg had signed a forward just before the first leg game and he was to be put straight in against us .
I had a wee search and the date that comes up for the final qualifiers is Monday 13th August .
I think the player in question is Nikola Djuradic and he was signed on loan It’s just something that has been bugging me, thanks for any help

I know you should not shove yer granny aff a bus – but firing her from a cannon!
It’s one way of gettin out and about ‘though!
HH!!
The Romans used to catapult their grannies to the shops, and the Spanish used to sling their grannies on trebuchet’s. Things have moved on since then of course: the French use classy cool cruise missiles, for the discerning granny that likes to sit back at a moderate speed. It was rumoured the Soviets used scuds or V2’s to propel grannies from the shops of Minsk to Moscow and vice versa. The Americans have to show off right enough, they torpedo their grannies from Los Angeles to New York by using intercontinental ballistic missiles. Personally I’m hoping to purchase a granny bazooka from BEA Systems- they do a portable strapped model that can be launched from the shoulder, very dapper don’t yo know or ‘soigne’ as the French say- the grannies are launched at colossal speeds and you have to watch they don’t wear too much hairspray as they can penetrate sheet metal.

While I’m all in favour of Fiscal Prudence, ‘Tunnel Vision’ has its own costs, and can be disadvantageous for the Bank Balance in the medium and long term…
Absolute inflexibility in refusing to spend even very modest amounts, over and above the income earned over any particular business ‘period’…is having a detrimental effect….particularly at this most vital of moments in the 125years of Unbroken Tradition ,for Brother Walfrid’s Glorious Legacy….when the tanks are crunching up the Marble Stairs at Bigot Dome….and even the bulk of FPLG and Bomber John Brown…….and the yappin’ of Charlie Green’s Wee Scabby Dug..will stop them now….
Now is the time to spend that wee bit extra….to boost us into the stratosphere where canny management will sustain us
…even if the Huns manage to squirm their way into the SPL ahead of schedule and the MIBs grow ever more hateful & ugly….
No..To Gangster Casino Economics…!

OldTim – See you’re looking for a good Malt recommendation.
Being from Northern stock myself, I can hardly claim to be impartial.
However, I’d say go no further than Old Pultney. ALWAYS.
The 12yr old is one o the finest drops o the “craitur” you’ll ever put to your lips. The 20yr old was/is voted the best in the world by the Malt Whisky Society for 2011/12, but at something like five times the price it’s not five times better.
So, if you’ve not tried it already, Old Pultney 12yr old, the Bobby Murdoch o malts !!

Sorry it’s the deadline for teams in the CL qualifiers to have players signed for the qualifiying rounds ,
Us v Helsinki
Us v Helsingborg
Neil Canamalar @ 17:03,
Absolutely spot on…
The Club must register the players and pay their contracts, the Club must ensure that their personnel are compliant with the F&PPT.
Hearts were warned by the SPL for late payments of players, they could have received a points deduction.
Why should the Club have a points deduction if the Company failed to pay the wages on a timely manner.
Rangers went into administration and were deducted 10 points, why if it was the Company that went into administration.
The unescapable fact is it is the Club that is responsible to ensure compliance with ALL the rules and regulations to the Footballing Authorites.
BTW: RFCia are still in administration!
fstb,
I know what you meant, but I’m sure there is no cut off point before the window closes, hence not an issue. if we get through we have two days to make a signing.
