There are plenty of potential opponents from northern Europe with trips to Sweden, Finland, Norway and Denmark all possible, while Celtic are the only seed from northern Europe. Hopefully Uefa, in their keenness for geographical neighbourliness, don’t feel the need to send us to Israel, Poland or Serbia. If we take care of Stjarnan, of course.

For what it is worth I think a lot of those who contribute to the political debates are obviously more literate than others, most try to look beyond the MSM or party handouts to develop their arguments and , unlike myself, dont use the old ‘ad hominem’ and remain civilised. There are three or four who contribute – particularly on the issue of Scottish politics – who are utterly inane with one, who supports independence ( as I do) being a serial embarrassment whilst I suspect that another – who is a pro-union man- is something of a bigot on the sly. What is notable for me is that the more inane contributions come from people who make similarly inane, platitudinous, comments about Celtic.
I like this blog though frequently it annoys me. I am not sure if I am in ‘the clique’ or not but usually enjoy the contributions of the most stern critic of this almost legendary ( or do I mean ‘legnedary’ ?) clique as they come from someone who is obviously a ‘major Tim’.
There is too much political chat on this blog that seems to go round in circles but the blog is what we make it and having read it for a decade and contributed sporadically for the last four it seems to me that it has always been ‘not as good as it used to be’.
Anyway rabbitted enough – away to watch the end of the cricket and then the golf

Gene…………..I was away in Antibes a couple of weeks ago, enjoyed the hollier but once the temperature started to crank up to the 30 degree mark I was glad to get back to a nice cool Irish breeze.
People complaining about the political nature of this blog are correct, there is too much politics.
I NEVER posted politically on here until the run-up to the Neverendum, probably around March/April 2014.
The reason I started was because the ‘turncoat’ and ‘kiddy-on’ tim supporters of the SNP, turned this into a censorious and coercive platform – they thought they could get away with anything – well they can’t and they didn’t – they were GUBBED.
And a fat lot of good their fifty-odd in Westminster can do – we have just had the most reactionary budget for over TWENTY years.
As far as their majority in the Scottish Assemble in Edinburgh goes – they have done precisely nothing, except cause the deaths of two young people due to their political re-branding of the police and the destruction of local accountability.
I detest the SNP and even more so, the ‘turncoats’ who have been brainwashed to vote for them from our ‘kind’

Re politics…
Used to be most political discussions on here were pretty good natured.
But the referendum has certainly had the effect of poisoning the well across the country. People are divided. Rhetoric is inflamed. I know my own friendships have been affected…
It’s a shame. But whilst the threat of another vote hangs over us the tension and ill feeling will remain.
