Sweden, Finland, Norway and Denmark all possible for Celtic

947

Delighted for Aberdeen, winning away from home in Croatia is no mean feat for a Scottish club, but a 0-3 result, anywhere, is a special result.  None of the other 32 away teams could manage so much as a two goal win.

The Inverness defeat on their maiden European performance was pity, if not a surprise.  Winning your home game is regarded as the Cardinal Rule in Europe, but they have a puncher’s chance next week in Romania.  Score the opening goal and it’s anyone’s game.

Today’s draw for the Champions League 3rd round qualifier has the potential to get a bit tasty.  There are plenty of potential opponents from northern Europe with trips to Sweden, Finland, Norway and Denmark all possible, while Celtic are the only seed from northern Europe.  Hopefully Uefa, in their keenness for geographical neighbourliness, don’t feel the need to send us to Israel, Poland or Serbia.  If we take care of Stjarnan, of course.

I see someone elsewhere bemoaning the fact and commenting on the unfairness of Celtic having to play qualifying rounds before reaching the the play offs for the Champions League proper. Sorry but is it any unfairer than any other clubs who have to tread the same route. The league we play in now compares with the same league Dundalk play in and I don’t see them claiming any preferential treatment for past glories. Get used to the fact that once we were are a big big football club now we are just a big business.

    Bombing ISIS in Syria ?

    On Radio 4 earlier .

Reported in the Guardian and The Daily Torygraph.

Call Me Dave attempting to explain it away by stating it was done by Brit pilots embedded with the American Air Force..

Some Tory MPs reported to be not happy.

  3. canamalar,

sorry for not being more precise last night, locking for a good beach location hotel in Abu Dhabi in September, anyone have any suggestions.

If the pilots are embedded withe the USAF then they’re really not bringing anything to the party that the yanks couldn’t themselves provide.

Interesting (though not surprising) that some Tory MPs are prepared to express criticism of the actions of their government.

Seriously don`t want to enter into a debate about the current Brit. govt. attitude to welfare , but why then are there so many chaps in Calais desperate to get a piece of Brit.welfare action.

    Are they really so stupid?

C.Q.N.punters have a duty to put them straight about British welfare inequity.

Why don`t they want to stay in France which boasts a friendly socialist govt.?

    Put them straight,lads.

    It`s (apparently) your duty.

Nope. No Brits will be dropping bombs illegally then.’

To my mind there’s a difference between the pilots flying with the USAF and them flying with the air force of some smaller less expert air force where their experience and expertise might make the difference between being able to carry out such an operation or not.

Politically though it’s good to see some Tory MPs expressing criticism of their government, wouldn’t you agree?

  8. Ernie

I do agree that it is good to see a wee Tory backlash. But the revolt will last the time it takes to eat their scone’s and drink thier Earl Grey.

  9. Are the British pilots imbedded in allied air forces operated out of allied airbases imbedded in Britain?

No judgements or political opinions being expressed here just saying that such a curious scenario may be true.

Hate to be the glass half empty guy here …….am I the only one who is a little concerned about most people just presuming we are through to the next round in europe. After reading their goal keepers comments about their pitch being a dry hard surface , games against Ross County , ICT and the like spring to mind ………….the amount of times Ive seen Celtic not perform on similar pitches makes me a tad nervous……..if only we had put that penalty away !!

If the pitch was so much of a leveller for them, you would think they might have beaten some of the lower dross in their league on it.

.The experience was augmented by 48,000 fellow Celts bedecked out in green and white on a lovely summers night, not that you would know tho from our mythfarters.:-) but i was there and like youz and it was great. As thomthetim would say there was ‘only us’

We won 2-0 and build positively for next weeks game, more match time together, work to do but thats always been the case since our club founded.

I doubt many of those people in Calais are desperate to get across the Channel so they can claim benefits.

To have got that far they are obviously determined and resourceful.

Most of us know that the world is in a bad state and we can switch off the news or radio and spend some of our time not trying to put the world and its ills to right for 5 mins.
