Sweden, Finland, Norway and Denmark all possible for Celtic

947

Delighted for Aberdeen, winning away from home in Croatia is no mean feat for a Scottish club, but a 0-3 result, anywhere, is a special result.  None of the other 32 away teams could manage so much as a two goal win.

The Inverness defeat on their maiden European performance was pity, if not a surprise.  Winning your home game is regarded as the Cardinal Rule in Europe, but they have a puncher’s chance next week in Romania.  Score the opening goal and it’s anyone’s game.

Today’s draw for the Champions League 3rd round qualifier has the potential to get a bit tasty.  There are plenty of potential opponents from northern Europe with trips to Sweden, Finland, Norway and Denmark all possible, while Celtic are the only seed from northern Europe.  Hopefully Uefa, in their keenness for geographical neighbourliness, don’t feel the need to send us to Israel, Poland or Serbia.  If we take care of Stjarnan, of course.

I have to confess that I have never felt Izzy has been quite as good as everybody else did/does. In his first season he was clearly,as you say, our best left back since Tom Boyd but since then he has not always convinced me – and his defensive failings that you mention were in evidence when NFL was manager. But I am being churlish- he has been a splendid player for us and it surprises me the venom he now attracts- one admittedly bizarre clearance on Wednesday and it was like Efe last season from many in the crowd. ( I admit I think Efe is a bad player mind you)

But if Izzy gets injured we are in a mess like almost no other position. That is what I mean when I say ‘we need cover for Izzy’ – because a complete novice aside – there is none.

  3. I believe we should market up celtic very dons as the “new rivals”.

Let them have as many seats as they can sell at celiac park.

Let the sevco know they are replaced.

Make it the game that sells out.

I loved when we sung Sailing in the 70s and in my very early teens was foolish enough to think it would take over from You’ll never walk alone as our most popular anthem. Best Rod song. Reason to believe.

  11. By cover for left back we mean an additional left back in the squad. Charlie can’t do it and Luke Donnelly is a young gun. We have no-one else!

I’ve said it a couple times and I’ll say it again: Junior Diaz Costa Rica dude.

I would take Sammi on a one year deal. Gives us something none of our current strikers do in Europe.

    Rocket Man.

Luke Donnelly not a left back.

His preferred role would be a link up man with the striker(s). Think Joe Hansen role.

    Anyhoo – Junior Diaz :-)

Sammy was a free transfer last year as well technically. We decided that he was s predictable trick pony not worth what 18k per week who didn’t add anything to the team in the SPFL.

Jimmynotpaul, unfortunately the brethren at Ibrox had used the tune to Sailing for their uda all the way mince. I wonder if that’s why the Jungle stopped singing Sailing.

The brethren’s version does bring back two fond memories, them being two one up at Ibrox and the brethren giving the above song laldy, the Bear scores, the scarves and flags all disappeared. The same happened the following season at Hampden when Big Shuggie scored the equaliser against them in the League Cup final.

today’s CL draw doesn’t look too bad for us , particularly when one sees some of the other match-ups for the next round:

    Fenerbache v. Shaktar Donetsk

    Monaco v. Young BoyS Bern

CSKA Moscow v. Sparta Prague ….

Some good teams will be getting knocked out in the next round.

  21. What is the Stars on

Allow me to tell a little rod Stewart ditty, girl I know lives in new York and mixes in some salubrious circles, anyhow rod Stewart was an old favourite of hers from her teenage years. One night while out to dinner the bould Rod was seated at the next table, she introduced herself and said she was a huge fan blah blah etc. Rod on hearing her irish accent invited her and her husband to join them. This girl has absolutely no interest in football and afterwards her verdict on the evening was. “He was very nice but all he wanted to talk about was celtic”..

Let’s get Sami – will give us more in a season than Pukku, Balde, Scepovic combined.

Cifti, Griff, Stokes & Sami – men for all season’s, this season.

    Let’s get a surge going.

  23. ....PFayr supports WeeOscar on

Warburton..the ET seem very keen on him ..they keep trundling out no mark football guys to praise him to the heavens

Have they ever thought why he wasn’t offered a job somewhere else

I suppose for their editorial / reporting team ..Sevco manager is one of their boyhood ambitions

The Huns buy this kack too …

  24. A luxury player for sure… But Sami should not have left, he is celtic

    BRING HIM BACK

  25. You good Sammy fans

I just said to my son, we need someone like Sammy to hold up the ball for others. One of the best technical skilled players that I have ever seen who can control any ball in the air with his head, chest and lay off the perfect ball. R. G. Hooper I the 3-0 game against the former rivals. Total no brainer. We know the guy we know his skils, his contribution, can teach Cifti a few skills, who I believe has great potential for us. Ronny , sign him up..

ClogherCelt. Hope to watch game with the Celtic loyal in Meath or persuade then to go and watch in Bad Ass Still in recovery mode but will catch up soon if not Wed.

Almore/wits donegal playing on Sunday look like they are the only ones to challenge the mighty Dubs, who have become so strong that I have been suggesting to Dub fans that they should have 2 Dub teams. challenging for the Sam. What do you think the Jacks (north Dublin) v West Brits (south Dublin).. You may have Sevco fans embracing GAA.What do you think Wits?

  26. It’s maybe obvious to say that Sammi is past it, but he was never up there to get past it.

Thankfully won’t be back at Celtic.

    Dallas.

Even although we only drew 2.2 at Ibrox, that is one of my favourite Ibrox memories. Don’t want to talk about the league cup game though.

I had logged off the other night when you mentioned The Hippo seen it when scrolling back. I agree don’t think he will be too enamoured with their signings. Still a bit of a divided support there.

PFayr, had the misfortune to catch Sky Sevco News about ten to five tonight.

They had an interview with Warburton talking about having a lean squad (they couldn’t get any leaner than it is the now). In the background there was a board with ‘Sevco’ Youth Company on it. I thought that Youth Company malarkey had all disappeared.

After the world according to the mighty Warbo was finished, they had a very brief bit about our possible champions league qualifying opponents if we beat Stjarnan.
