Sweden, Finland, Norway and Denmark all possible for Celtic

947

Delighted for Aberdeen, winning away from home in Croatia is no mean feat for a Scottish club, but a 0-3 result, anywhere, is a special result.  None of the other 32 away teams could manage so much as a two goal win.

The Inverness defeat on their maiden European performance was pity, if not a surprise.  Winning your home game is regarded as the Cardinal Rule in Europe, but they have a puncher’s chance next week in Romania.  Score the opening goal and it’s anyone’s game.

Today’s draw for the Champions League 3rd round qualifier has the potential to get a bit tasty.  There are plenty of potential opponents from northern Europe with trips to Sweden, Finland, Norway and Denmark all possible, while Celtic are the only seed from northern Europe.  Hopefully Uefa, in their keenness for geographical neighbourliness, don’t feel the need to send us to Israel, Poland or Serbia.  If we take care of Stjarnan, of course.

  1. For any gowfers up and about, those who didn’t get their round completed yesterday due to the late start at the Open are finishing off early this morning, and there’s live coverage on BBC 2 just now, replacing the advertised ‘Master of Ballantrae’.

Wind howling, so makes it more interesting.

    Hail Hail!

  3. Wind so strong up in St. andrew’s that the balls are moving on the putting greens while the player is addressing the ball. As it’s a foul stroke if that happens, they’re considering whether the 11th green, very exposed to the elements, should be deemed unplayable. How does that work for the scoring?

Pundit talking about the strong wind changing the local topography. . . . . Not a word you’ll hear often from The experts on Supersevcoboard I would imagine.

Play suspended at the pitch and putt in fife because of a light breeze. What a bunch of softies they are. Meanwhile, Im off to put a card in on god’s holy green grass.

Predicted wind speed is similar in St Andrews and Carnoustie. Fill yer pockets wi miniatures to anchor yourself down.

BobM, good advice, might get the young feller on the taxi duty for that to work oot. Play isnay suspended here until beatbhoy sais it is.

Windy in Carnoustie, who would have thought that was possible.

  8. Good morning CQNers,

Some while ago someone posted a link to the story of Duffy’s Cut and I read with interest this morning the culmination, in part, of the story.

The remains of one of the victims, Catherine Burns, have been shipped home and her funeral mass and interment will happen tomorrow at St Patrick’s Church, Clonoe.

The most moving version of this song I’ve ever heard is by The Cast (Mairi Campbell and Dave Francis), on an album called “The Winnowing” – it’s well worth tracking the album down, if you like their version of “Kilkelly”.

Here’s a “You Tube” link to the track:

Can somebody not just put their hand on the golf ball to stop it blowing away and thus giving the player time to whack it like they do at the fitba?

Have always loved the Open Championship since I was a wee wee bhoy. Hope the weather calms down so that the masters can demonstrate their class.

  26. When I was at high school there was an annual golf trip to St Andy’s were the howling wind was always the great leveller on competition day. Still, it was there that I hit my first and only eagle at a par four.
