Sweden, Finland, Norway and Denmark all possible for Celtic

947

Delighted for Aberdeen, winning away from home in Croatia is no mean feat for a Scottish club, but a 0-3 result, anywhere, is a special result.  None of the other 32 away teams could manage so much as a two goal win.

The Inverness defeat on their maiden European performance was pity, if not a surprise.  Winning your home game is regarded as the Cardinal Rule in Europe, but they have a puncher’s chance next week in Romania.  Score the opening goal and it’s anyone’s game.

Today’s draw for the Champions League 3rd round qualifier has the potential to get a bit tasty.  There are plenty of potential opponents from northern Europe with trips to Sweden, Finland, Norway and Denmark all possible, while Celtic are the only seed from northern Europe.  Hopefully Uefa, in their keenness for geographical neighbourliness, don’t feel the need to send us to Israel, Poland or Serbia.  If we take care of Stjarnan, of course.

winning captains@10.45… “Should Celtic re-sign Georgios Samaras?”

Why oh why would we want to go backwards? Has his time at WBA improved him as a player? No, of course not. Sounds like a Sun/Record type question…plain daft!

  7. My friends in Celtic,

I cannot believe the poll to bring back Georgios Samaras is so close. ( 49 to 47 % )

Nostalgia is fine, and I always supported GS, ( even when he was being pillored by many)but I just cannot see how he would boost our team over the season or are we just basing his future contribution to a few European away games.

Eulogising of Warburton continues unabated …even made it into The Times…not a great surprise as the journo was Hun Chuckle Monkey Michael Grant

The line at the moment is small squads are good , no need to spend on players as you can’t guarantee value , concentrate on youth …..all euphemisms for they’re skint and GSL isn’t ponying up any mazoola

This Warbo fella is going to feel the full wrath of the hordes next Saturday, 1 game played and oot a cup already. Hibs will wipe the floor with sevco. Must be another new world record down sevco drive.

  12. BSR,

    :)

He doesn’t even need to play, just have him run the line as a sub and that should be enough of a distraction, a notice on the big screen “cheer the team or we bring on Sammi” should shut a fair amount of them up :)

  13. weebobbycollins got to agree utterly pointless poll, surprised WC even bothering with it – unless of course it is just a bit of fun!! Nobody seriously thinks Management minds will be swayed by the result. H H Hebcelt

Mount Street Bridge and mick malones mauser

There is a fascinating series of correspondence available online in the irish military archives relating to Michael malone and his family. The background is that people who took part in the rebellion were entitled to a pension from the newly formed state after 1922 and if deceased their next of kin got it. Mick malone died at Mount Street bridge so his mother got a pension, she died in the 20 s I think so his sister applied for the pension on the basis that her brother had he lived would have provided for her . Her request was turned down ( the fact that her family was anti treaty, one sister married Dan Breen, didn’t impress the new regime. ) however she persisted and there some amazing letters involved. The Dept of Social Welfare wrote to her to assess her needs. She wrote back basically saying there would be no dept of social welfare or indeed no free state if it wasn’t for her brother and basically just gimme the money. It went on for decades before the dept relented and gave her the pension. Which she then refused to collect. I will post the link but it’s fascinating

  15. I like the way the media are bumming up warburton it will make the crash even better, the orcs are lapping it up like they have the next jock stein and are ready to take Europe by storm, with McCoist McDowell and Mrs doubtfire they kind of new they where going to fail with this clown they think they’ve found “the one”, I also liked how the media had Ronny down as a dud after 4 games, it just made his success even better so let them carry on talking up ‘warbo’ and the Hun fantasies and we’ll keep winning the trophies with our dud Ronny HH
