Delighted for Aberdeen, winning away from home in Croatia is no mean feat for a Scottish club, but a 0-3 result, anywhere, is a special result. None of the other 32 away teams could manage so much as a two goal win.
The Inverness defeat on their maiden European performance was pity, if not a surprise. Winning your home game is regarded as the Cardinal Rule in Europe, but they have a puncher’s chance next week in Romania. Score the opening goal and it’s anyone’s game.
Today’s draw for the Champions League 3rd round qualifier has the potential to get a bit tasty. There are plenty of potential opponents from northern Europe with trips to Sweden, Finland, Norway and Denmark all possible, while Celtic are the only seed from northern Europe. Hopefully Uefa, in their keenness for geographical neighbourliness, don’t feel the need to send us to Israel, Poland or Serbia. If we take care of Stjarnan, of course.

Charlie was a rare addition to the team when I first started watching in 67-68. I missed his best, but I appreciated his abilities even at 4yo.
You know, you hear the litany being read over the tannoy. The team. We all knew what it would be.
But if a certain player was missing it gave you a wee jar at first. Then a wee glow as you turned to your Dad-mibbe it was jooost me!-and said…
Dad,he was great the last time, wasn’t he?

The wee barra`s privileged.

Morning all.
So it’s Azerbaijan or Montenegro.
Never been to either, but I hear the latter is a beautiful country. On the Adriatic of course.

Yes, Greaves was a class above our guys. I’ve a recollection he described his mind-set as looking to see where the goalie was, then putting it where he wasn’t.
We’ll score over one hundred this season.

Totally agree, but the problem we had then was the get the
man and the ball attitude and unfortunately the Celtic support
bought into that mantra, except for the silky players like me
of course.

TBH,JG was a class above most. His scoring record was extraordinary.
Would he have scored 40 before Christmas though?

With reluctance,I`m starting to be slightly impressed by your intuition.
Joe McBride……………..golden boot but for a cruciate .

36 before Christmas,IIRC.
Huge loss for the club and for himself when he got injured.
And,no. I’m not gonna go into the what if.
Hope yer fine and dandy,my right-leaning but right-minded friend?

Octoberfest in Jockland,if you`re up for it.
I`ll be accompanied by Oz accented minders, as is my won’t.
There`s a Guiness in it for you if you play your cards right.
Qarabag .
Saw both of their Europa League games v Inter .
A struggling ” in crisis ” Inter struggled to beat them 2-0 in Milan .Inter were jeered at the start of the game , throughout the game and the end of the game ..
Return game was 0-0 . Inter fielded a largely second pick team. Qarabag were the better team . . Qarabag were robbed of a 1 -0 victory by an ” honest mistake ” in added time..
Montenegro —– had a very good holiday there in the early 80s . Nice wee beach resort called Petrovatz

I didn’t know it was a cruciate. Lucky to come back at all from that in those days.
I just remember it as a knee injury, wear and tear. Some kind of flaking of the joint?
Disnae matter, ruined a great season for a great player, and by all accounts,a fine fine man too.
Jee-zoh,this club has given us some heroes,eh?
Enjoying work today. Guy I’m working with is a big hun. Part of the process we’re working on involves undertaking an Infrastructure Risk Assessment (IRA). Lorra lorra jokes from me. He’s a bit uncomfortable about it all…. :-)))
I say dont count your chickens before they have hatched wee have a nervy visit to Iceland before we can think about who we play in the next round.Well done to Aberdeen on last nights great away win.H.H.

A wee homecoming party is being planned for you on 10/10. Sadly it is also being planned as a likely farewell for a very valued friend who is unlikely to grace these shores again.
I’m home from about 3-18/10. I hope the dates coincide. Otherwise you’ll jooost have to track me down in Swindon and pay a derisory £2 for said Guinness!
DownForSam @10.43hrs,
I agree with most of your post, but respectively I cannot agree with your suggested solution :-
“Eg top 8 league playing each other 4 times a season giving 28 games. ”
———————————————————-
IMO an eight team league would quickly become tedious, and rather than increase the profile and interest it would diminish it.
I had enough of playing Dundee United last season. We ended up knowing them that well that half their team joined us.
HH.
FK Rudar Pljevlja (commonly known as FK Rudar or simply Rudar) is a football club based in Pljevlja, Montenegro. It currently plays in the First League of Montenegro, the country’s highest tier.
The club is run by the Šarić brothers, Darko and Duško and, according to Keith Jackson, their wealth is off the Rudar.
I hate pesky spelling mistakes.

Make that Petrovac , Montenegro . . Some 20 km south of Budva .
Phone tells me it is currently 35 degrees in Petrovac .. 5 degrees less than here . Back to work , washing cherries , drying cherries , boxing cherries ( and trying hard not to eat too many – great ! big / sweet and juicy )
Aberdeen will face FC Kairat/Alashkert FC in the Europa League third round qualifiers if they knock out Rijeka.
Arsenal supporter Nielsen:
“We can be quite good when we sit deep and hit on the counter-attack”.
Unfortunately, son, those tactics might not be ideal given the first-leg scoreline.
Sit as deep as you want. . . We can wait.
90 minutes, preferably. A lovely 0-0.
Hail Hail!

Chatting with an all female scouse family last night, over here for a 50th. When I said I was from Glasgow the old bird 70
SJ had a poor game by his standards on Wednesday but some of the criticism over the past couple of days has been ott,he was our POTY last season and I don’t doubt he’ll be challenging for it again this season
HH
Good draw for the Bhoys…we have a great chance of going into the CL group stage.
As for the Icelanders….I think we will maul them.
We will be that bit fitter, and more lethal in front of goal.
Cmon the Hoops

Buick Makane.
If you’re having a poor game, a goal and an assist go some way to atoning for it.
Think the level of criticism might be a bit higher than it would’ve been due to the penalty nonsense, right enough.
Hail Hail.
…. Oops.. Anyway she piped up.. ‘you must know the Muirheads, proud Orange they are just like us:. Before I could say anything, a younger woman blasted her saying’ shut your gob ffs you old bigot, half of Glasgow’s Celtic and remember who gave us King Kenny’…. She apologised on behalf of old bigot and I said Hail Hail Cilla. It got a laugh.
McBride had a strange career. Sold by Killie as a teenager to Wolves in 1959 for 15 K —a big fee then. Hardly played a game for them went to Luton a big step down, then Thistle then Mwell .At all 3 he was prolifilc .As he was at Hibs after he left us. Only capped when he played for us
Oh while I’ve got time to post doesn’t Celtic Park look brilliant with all the legends gracing the stadium, need to take my wee maw for a visit, she’ll love it

It would be lovely to think that those attitudes are dying out.
In most places they are.
