Sweden, Finland, Norway and Denmark all possible for Celtic

947

Delighted for Aberdeen, winning away from home in Croatia is no mean feat for a Scottish club, but a 0-3 result, anywhere, is a special result.  None of the other 32 away teams could manage so much as a two goal win.

The Inverness defeat on their maiden European performance was pity, if not a surprise.  Winning your home game is regarded as the Cardinal Rule in Europe, but they have a puncher’s chance next week in Romania.  Score the opening goal and it’s anyone’s game.

Today’s draw for the Champions League 3rd round qualifier has the potential to get a bit tasty.  There are plenty of potential opponents from northern Europe with trips to Sweden, Finland, Norway and Denmark all possible, while Celtic are the only seed from northern Europe.  Hopefully Uefa, in their keenness for geographical neighbourliness, don’t feel the need to send us to Israel, Poland or Serbia.  If we take care of Stjarnan, of course.

Charlie was a rare addition to the team when I first started watching in 67-68. I missed his best, but I appreciated his abilities even at 4yo.

You know, you hear the litany being read over the tannoy. The team. We all knew what it would be.

But if a certain player was missing it gave you a wee jar at first. Then a wee glow as you turned to your Dad-mibbe it was jooost me!-and said…

Dad,he was great the last time, wasn’t he?

Yes, Greaves was a class above our guys. I’ve a recollection he described his mind-set as looking to see where the goalie was, then putting it where he wasn’t.

We’ll score over one hundred this season.

Totally agree, but the problem we had then was the get the

man and the ball attitude and unfortunately the Celtic support

bought into that mantra, except for the silky players like me

A wee homecoming party is being planned for you on 10/10. Sadly it is also being planned as a likely farewell for a very valued friend who is unlikely to grace these shores again.

I agree with most of your post, but respectively I cannot agree with your suggested solution :-

“Eg top 8 league playing each other 4 times a season giving 28 games. ”

    ———————————————————-

IMO an eight team league would quickly become tedious, and rather than increase the profile and interest it would diminish it.

I had enough of playing Dundee United last season. We ended up knowing them that well that half their team joined us.

The club is run by the Šarić brothers, Darko and Duško and, according to Keith Jackson, their wealth is off the Rudar.
