Sweeten the medicine, Celtic

991

There is an unusually sombre tempo head of tomorrow’s Champions League last 16 tie, a consequences of the 0-3 reversal at home three weeks ago and the general sentiment around Scottish football this week, but this match is an excellent test for both manager and playing squad.

We are a Champions League team again with aspirations to achieve at this level next season.  Having finally overcome the hoodoo of never having won away from home in the competition, we must use occasions like tomorrow to continue our growth in the competition.

We defended our 18-yard line in the Camp Nou and almost got away with a point.  The plan was wrong in Lisbon, where a talented Benfica controlled midfield and recorded a narrow win, but the win against Spartak in Moscow was deserved.

Celtic might not be able to qualify for the quarter finals but they can win the match tomorrow; this is an achievable objective which would sweeten the inevitable medicine.

  1. If Scotland gets independence would then bhoys hoiked off a plane have to be deported – if they were Celtic fans would they be guaranteed to be let back to Alba

  2. Thanks Boab. Is it the same ground though? not sure if the rebuilt ground is on the old site or was moved into the centre. Will check it out.

Celtic have been advised our fans will be kept back after the match for a lengthy period. Please be patient. Updates as we get them.

  5. Anyone who has ever flown in and out of Heathrow will know what a hell-hole it is and how gung-ho the security personnel are. I have paid hundreds of extra dollars just to avoid it on my visit home in April.

You have obviously never been to Redcar.

  6. I remember coming back from Seville, one young fella stood up as the plane was just about to take off and started encouraging everyone to stand up and sing Hail Hail, The Celts are Here”. The plane immediately slowed down returned to its boarding spot. All the luggage was searched until they found the lads bag and he was put off. His girl-friend decided to get off as well. The point of the story was apart from initial transgression, the young fella who obviously got a bad shock was just sitting there quietly. He was no danger but on planes its one strike and you are out.

  7. Hearhrow terminal 5 is a great airport. Other terminals not so good.

Total yawn fest at old Trafford. 0 0 at half time.

  8. If Scotland gets independence and a Celt sings in the forest , is there a hun there to hear it.

    Finished now !

  10. A handful of Celts on the lash get booted off a plane, allegedly. Hardly comparable with trashing a city or trying to kick a policeman to death because a screen didn’t work.

Some perspective bhoys. Out of thousands of travelling fans a few annoy a flight crew and passengers getting themselves kicked off the flight in the process. They will probably be spending the night in a comfy police cell, missing the game and wasting a lot of cash. And most probably feeling like a right bunch of eejits when they sober up.

Will there be bad press in Scotland? of course we know there will be and aren’t we all used to the impartial coverage we get in Scotland. I would also expect the MSM to latch on to any Reb songs the bhoys happen belt out – just to even up the score.

I remember you were interested in Zenit St. Petersburg fans views.

Another interesting piece today. Chervichenko, from who Fedun took Spartak over few years back gave interesting interview to the press.

    – There is no place for gay footballers in the Russian clubs.

    – Black skin players? No place for them in our clubs. For safe streets of our country we need to get rid of not white players.

    – Women? They can go watch football games, but they should not say what they think about football. They know nothing about that.

    Re. Joint League

I read the news on Russian websites and then the copy of the article you posted here.

Until today, all talks were not formal. Today, Russian Football Federation gave green light to all formal talks, negotiations regarding Joint League. Gazaev who is the Head of the Committee can organize from now the lawyers and full stuff that he needs to prepare all variants of so Joint League. Now, nobody can say it’s utopia.

    On another issues there.

Due to the “Fair Play” rule, Russian clubs might be in troubles soon. The rule says that the owner or sponsor can’t put more than 45 million euros per year into the club.

Spartak, Zenit St. Petersburg, Anzi, Terek all get more from sponsors that this sum of money.

Many good people there but run by crazy leaders.

And I’d say there are far more Tims there than Harrogate.

    Got to disagree.

Great technical game with Utd shading it.

    And who could blame it?

  15. when it comes to flying, it has to be one strike and you’re out, theres too much at stake for any other option, and im not just talking football flights

if anyone does get chibbed off a plane for being pashed then im sure they wake up the next day feeling a bit of a fanjita
