Sweeten the medicine, Celtic

991

There is an unusually sombre tempo head of tomorrow’s Champions League last 16 tie, a consequences of the 0-3 reversal at home three weeks ago and the general sentiment around Scottish football this week, but this match is an excellent test for both manager and playing squad.

We are a Champions League team again with aspirations to achieve at this level next season.  Having finally overcome the hoodoo of never having won away from home in the competition, we must use occasions like tomorrow to continue our growth in the competition.

We defended our 18-yard line in the Camp Nou and almost got away with a point.  The plan was wrong in Lisbon, where a talented Benfica controlled midfield and recorded a narrow win, but the win against Spartak in Moscow was deserved.

Celtic might not be able to qualify for the quarter finals but they can win the match tomorrow; this is an achievable objective which would sweeten the inevitable medicine.

  1. Evening all

Reading the blog tonight sorry to read As I Thought’s post. I’ve been pretty much poured on a plane following the Bhoys to Berne so I won’t be casting any stones.

I should add in the mood of witch-hunting that nobody ever asked me what school I went to when I first logged on to this site two years ago. Still speak to plenty of folk who went to it and can probably tell you who taught me every subject in the years I went. The number of happy memories of the place I could count on the fingers of one hand.

Ernie Lynch – would you believe that it was a six form “associated” high school in Harrogate- a mixture of Catholic and C of E.

Amazing what like minded people can achieve irrespective of their religion, eh?

Nothing would surprise me about Harrogate.

No offence, but it’s the most boring, pointless place I’ve ever visited.

    What’s it for?

What’s it for? Harrogate or the collection?

We are in difficult times Scottish football has clearly been shown as corrupt the learned Judge said the huns had been cheating but it didnt lead to them having any advantage over the other Scottish clubs and we are expected to say oh well thats ok then. Now we can talk of old Rangers or newco as long as either of them are in Scottish all football the cheating will not go away and fans of the other clubs are expected to pay up and shut up.We are struggling to know the right way to react some say they wont be back and I can understand there arguement others say they will not give up supporting Celtic as thats what the huns would want.I think we are leaderless and this is in part down to the the custodians of our club not showing strong enough leadership but one thing for sure this story is only at the first paragraph and will run and run only the ending has yet to be revealed.H.H.

The only interesting thing in Warrington was the Mersey, and that was only interesting because it was iridescent orange with pollution.

A bit harsh on Plymouth. Ugly as hell, I grant you, due to being flattened in WW2 but nice people.

Therein lies the rub. Right wing rhetoric bordering on Nazi is OK. Post a link to a song eulogising an Irish revolutionary organisation and there is a torrent of tut tuts and calls to place a permanent ban on all reference to the organisation lest it offends!

  14. I saw a post from twists n turns earlier bemoaning our weak centre backs and bombing-on full backs because we let Juve win 3:0. He then said we had not had a decent defence since, what was it, 2005?

Now, if that is the MON green specs with blindfolds going on, could I remind you that we shipped 3 goals to Juve (2x), Porto, Man U, Stuttgart, Porto (in Seville), Lyon, Barca and Milan in that period.

The so called sieve that got us to the last 16 in 2006/7 also shipped 3 goals in every group away match but the even less lauded defence of 2007/8 only shipped 3 in one leg of the last 16 in Barcelona. The stats would say that was our best ever defence but our fans would disagree with that assessment

  15. Anyone think the RM goalie top is too similar to the outfield strip …..surprised it was allowed

  16. SFTB

Your point being …our current defence is better then any other we have had in the CL ?

Or our defence is always rubbish :-))

  18. Odds are asithought is telling the truth. It was just his opening post was so strong it would make you wonder. Then again if he was stuck on a plane for a couple of hours and some fans were blootered and holding up the flight again, he could be forgiven for lashing out.

  19. Favourite Uncle –

What has kitalba got to do with this?

I asked you a simple question . . . how does one’s school and the names of school friends prove anyone is a Celtic supporter?

You don’t need to hide behind another poster. Just answer the question.

  20. Man u let off the hook there big time

Was the for Italia 90 supporting the bonnies v Brazil. There was a hotel close to the ground at the end wee Murdo got knocked out with the ball. No one could get a drink as there was a ban at all World Cup games. Now here,s the thing if hotel is still there go round the back of it dont try to go in main doors at front, go to rear entrance. Had a great time with a wallace mercer lookalike and a dozen Brazillians . The hotel was only about two hundred yards along a main road
