Tallinn or Gibraltar in Champions League for Celtic

532

Brendan Rodgers will start Celtic’s Champions League trail against Flora Tallin, from Estonia, or Lincoln Red Imps, from Gibraltar, in the tournament’s second qualifying round.

Flora, who are seeded against Lincoln Red Imps, are midseason, but went out in the first qualifying round a year ago to Rabotnicki, from Macedonia (who reached the play-off round before losing narrowly to Russians, Rubin Kazan).

Red Imps won the big (cough) Iberian derby last year when they eliminated Santa Coloma from Andorra, before crashing to Erik Sviatchenko’s Midtjylland.

Neither are the British Isles-based tie Brendan Rodgers would have preferred, travelling arrangements will cost an extra day’s training, but there were far more arduous opponents in the draw.

Games take place on 12/13th July and 19/20th July. The away tie is scheduled first – but you know the drill, don’t book flights until Uefa have ratified match arrangements.

Would quite like to see him getting a run on the left of a 3 with Brown on the right and a good strong holding player in between.

Spread betting has proven a more accurate forecasting medium than the opinion polls in recent years.

In which case Remain will win more comfortably than many are suggesting.

It’s all very reminiscent of the Indyref. Much of the polling for that, though, was online etc. which (to my mind at the time) seemed to miss out an important demographic – my maw and people like her who only really use the interwebs for lottery results and Mass Live from Lourdes. But the results in the final weeks were calling it close. It never felt that close.

At that point I remember reading something that any significant change to be successful requires about a 10 or 15 point lead in most polls?

Only, Craig Levine stood up to them.

    ——–

Spot on pal. Levein was hounded out of the Scotland job by the usual suspect(s) in the MSM.

The no strikers v Czechs was a complete distraction. A 1-0 defeat away to a team that reached the quarter finals? Wow – what a disaster! Cannae believe so many people fell for that one.

Levein was standing up to them and that couldn’t be allowed.

Hope you are well. Hail hail.

Top headline in The Guardian at the moment-

    David Beckham Comes Out

  18. Watched an item on TV News last night about Clement Freud. The newsreader began by stating that another woman had come forward with new evidence of paedophilia.

The middle-aged woman was interviewed on camera. A photograph was also shown of her when the incident occurred while she was a student at Dundee University and Freud was rector.

If she was a university student, she must have been at least 17. Her picture suggested she was older than that.

In any case, she described the “sexual assault” which basically consisted of him propositioning her for sex. She said she had not invited him to her room for that purpose, which is fair enough. She said he tried to kiss her but she managed to reject his advances. He seemed to express surprise, she told the interviewer, but did not force himself on her.

So basically, a news item which began with the words, “evidence of paedophilia” was nothing more than the story of a celebrity making a pass at an adult female who did not welcome the advances.

I know nothing about Clement Freud and make no comment about previous allegations. I merely question the reasons why this particular incident made the national news, and am left with the feeling that it was nothing more than a publicity stunt by the woman. I also have to ask why the word “paedophile” was used when the alleged victim was clearly an adult.

  21. So if we leave the EU, would we lose the ability to sign Bosmans? Would all EU players who currently play in the UK without regulation require a work permit as non EU players currently do? Could a limit on the number of overseas players per club be imposed?

The answer to all of these is probably yes. Of course the Leave mob will tell you it will all be ok and deals will be done to sort it. But in the financial and economic chaos that would ensue, is it in any way likely that football will be near the top of anyone’s to do list?

The £ had it’s biggest 1-day rise since 2009 yesterday on the back of recent bad news for the Leave campaign. Apparently the currency markets would prefer to Remain.

My opinion of what? All I commented on was one news item in isolation. I made no comment on his guilt or otherwise with regard to other allegations.

I have no opinion to reassess.
