Tallinn or Gibraltar in Champions League for Celtic

532

Brendan Rodgers will start Celtic’s Champions League trail against Flora Tallin, from Estonia, or Lincoln Red Imps, from Gibraltar, in the tournament’s second qualifying round.

Flora, who are seeded against Lincoln Red Imps, are midseason, but went out in the first qualifying round a year ago to Rabotnicki, from Macedonia (who reached the play-off round before losing narrowly to Russians, Rubin Kazan).

Red Imps won the big (cough) Iberian derby last year when they eliminated Santa Coloma from Andorra, before crashing to Erik Sviatchenko’s Midtjylland.

Neither are the British Isles-based tie Brendan Rodgers would have preferred, travelling arrangements will cost an extra day’s training, but there were far more arduous opponents in the draw.

Games take place on 12/13th July and 19/20th July. The away tie is scheduled first – but you know the drill, don’t book flights until Uefa have ratified match arrangements.

This part of Grant Russels article seems important

If Rangers did have an overdue payable by the June deadline set by UEFA, they would have had until September 30 to prove the matter had been resolved. Consequently, there is no question of Rangers having been excluded from European competition in 2011/12. Instead, any sanction would have applied to future seasons.

    Now that’s Grants own explanation.

The UEFA spokesperson does not explain that. Grant fills this missing piece in for us.

Rangers would have had until September to prove the matter was resolved … Really? Where is that in the rules?

    =======================

    Did he really say that?

One important aspect is that had RFC failed Indicator 4 (overdue payables at 30 June) then UEFA would have asked for future financial forecasts.

Funnily enough HMRC were asking for them when UEFA decided it wasn’t necessary but can you imagine the difficulty having to produce future financial forecasts would have caused RFC in August 2011 AFTER they had exited both CL and EL and were six months from administration.

If SFA and UEFA have their way this could be The Greatest Story Never Told and STV would be the story teller, along with all the other smsm who have ignored the TOG report and not published documents that the CFCB had the power to demand in 2013 had Res12 been passed.

Catch 22 is one very funny book.

    ————————————————

Maybe so , but to me it’s main message is the impossibility of never achieving your goal. Hopefully this is not applicable to the Res 12 Resolutioners of which I have every confidence that they will actually achieve their Goal.

There are many excellent books funny and not so funny where triumph prevails over adversity.

No criticism intended in your choice of night time reading.

Catch 22 is one very funny book

    ——

    ’tis indeed.

Funilly enough, that was in my mind when RFC were caught red-handed (pun intended) with the old player registration debacle. In one form or another ‘they’ squirmed out of that due to an extent due to the Bryson Interpretation / LNS ‘legal judgement’ – which is what left the door ajar for the non-stripping of titles.

Worry is that, no matter how much they are caught bang-to-rights (they being SFA/RFC – UEFA? / SMSM? / some in the Justiciary?), we are effectively depending on the police to police themselves.

I’m usually optimistic, and we seem to be at a crucial juncture, so my hope is that justice is taken out of the grasp of vested interests, and delivered publicly, unambiguously, and in laymans terms.

Something along the lines of – “It is confirmed absolutely that Rangers and the SFA colluded over a number of years to deliberately cheat Scottish football” – something unspinnable.

Grateful for the continuing efforts chaps – WC, I feel your pain re: keeping a secret, but it is worth it to see the surprise at the end of the day – so wheesht!!!!
