Tannadice the scene for Cup quarter final

877

On Saturday my mind wandered, as it does, to the demise of Gretna in 2008.  The village team were bankrolled through the Scottish league system until promotion to the SPL in 2007 but then the cash ran out.  The club went into liquidation a few weeks from the end of the season but while most of the first team squad were made redundant, a few remained on a week-to-week basis to see out the remaining league programme, assisted considerably by the SPL and Livingston FC, who made their ground available.

Should Rangers fail around the same time, I thought, how apt it would be for us to meet them in the Scottish Cup final.  We would be there at the end to wave goodbye to a unique institution.  Witnesses to the final whistle on a club with an enormously controversial history.

Unfortunately, my hopes were dashed by Dundee United at Ibrox yesterday, who Flushed Away the opposition and won their first game against an SPL team in 2012.  We will have to scramble for tickets for the prospective event at another venue.

United seem set to try their hardest to spoil my enjoyment of the Cup.  Our quarter final draw against them next month will be one of the toughest games of the season.

mrs J has lovingly offered to make a valentines dinner next week. she asked what would i like for dessert.

the question is…. which flavour of jelly and ice cream should i go for?

    also,

would it be premature for the unveiling of the famous banner next month at mordor?

” Agent Whyte return to base. Mission Accomplished!”

  2. This has probably been raked over before, but I’ve been following the exchange on Twitter between CU and STVGrant. The latter mentions his article, link, dealing with re-entry to the SPL in the event of liquidation/Newco.

    It states:

The conditions for entry are set by the SPL board, and not the representatives from the remaining 11 member clubs. The board consists of Ralph Topping (SPL chairman), Neil Doncaster (SPL chief executive), Eric Riley (Celtic), Stephen Thompson (Dundee United), Derek Weir (Motherwell) and Steven Brown (St Johnstone). Topping has the casting vote in the event of a split decision.

To me, this renders the debate around Div 3 entry somewhat moot, as looking at the members of that board, the overwhelming vote would be yes to NewCo in the SPL (Celtic the only vote against). Pressure may be brought to bear on some of them by other member clubs, but they will ultimately act in the interests of their own club/association/business.

Comments and thoughts welcome, but it seems realistic to believe they will re-enter the SPL, and that any points penalties will be negotiated between these board members (again, with their financial interests the chief influence).

If I were a currant bun, why would I put up around £550, when there is the distinct possibility of seeing my money disappear into the ether when they go bust.

  8. Apologies if these have already been posted. I just read them on the Rangers Media Forum, and had to share…

If you think this is all about football

Sorry but you are a little deluded, this is all about out history, our religion, and our way of life!

Our enemies are out to destroy us and what I cannot understand is that the tims are only 16% of the Scottish population, yet we are allowing them to set the agenda against our club.

    ——————————————-

It is time to fight back:

    Stand by our club.

Challenge your work mates on their views about Rangers (this is no longer banter) they are out to wipe us out of Scotland.

Challenge the media, reply to letters pages in papers that attack our club, challenge Facebook pages and posts from your so-called friends!

Complain about TV coverage of our club, for example all of you complain to the BBC news (reporting Scotland) describing us(Rangers fans) as licking our wounds today.

Do not buy papers that are attacking our club (if they still continue after you complain) with this agenda also, let them know why you are no longer buying it (or never have).

Flood phone in sections of so called “ sport programs” that attack our club.

I do not have all the answers (if indeed any) but we all can no longer just continue to watch what is going on!!!

The tims are salivating with anticipation at the demise of our club.

The cry was “ No surrender,” cannot put it better myself.

It is always easer to criticise than to act!!!

Just a bear that has had enough!!!

    —————————————-

They have cranked up the pressure.

The end game for these people is not about a football club.

It is about an extension of the Irish RC state.

We will not see this in our life times but it is the plan.

Rangers FC and the Church of Scotland are seen as Obstacles.

We have given them this opportunity so its up to us to defend ourselves.

Paul67 has said that he has been told that ‘an SPL club’ and the SPL have both had legal advice to that effect that the decision as to whether a newco huns should be admitted to the SPL is a decision for their board, not their members.

That’s at odds with what Hugh Keevins says he’s been told by the SPL. He said it was a vote by the members. That’s certainly my reading of the Articles of Association.

It’s odd that something so apparently straightforward seems to be causing confusion.

It’s almost as if someone is trying to muddy the waters.

The concern both orcs had was that renewals are due out to them in a month. Rumour is the money is to be paid up front, no instalments. They could pay the money in March and Whytey then does a runner with said cash.

  19. The Battered Bunnet on

It is clear that the SPL did not foresee this current set of circumstances when they drafted the articles. In every event though, the Board are required to execute the direction provided by the members, failing which, to act in good faith and in the inetersts of their members at all times. It is inconceivable that incomers to Scottish Fooball – Doncaster and Topping – can be permitted to put their career and personal interests ahead of the interests of the members who employ them.

Additionally, given the ambiguity in the articles, it would be unwise of the Board to force through a dissonant decision. Whether it is ultimately determined that the Board or the Members have the decision to make, the decision will be made by the Members.

  20. It’s a hellish battle when antagonists fight over who’s to blame for putting the final bullets in a corpse that’s already dead.

The fact that the hearing was in private will not influence the publication of the findings……’

The judges and tribunal members are part time. They have day jobs as lawyers and accountants.

Not all judgements are published. There have been around 15,000 FTT tribunal cases since the system was introduced in 2009 (not all have had hearings, a lot are decided on written submissions), and there have been about 1700 judgements published.

  24. First ever post for an hooked reader of CQN for several years. Just have to say hello to everyone and I promise that I am not from the dark side. My point relates to discussions following on from watching Dundee United’s win at Ibrox on tv yesterday when several mates said its was odds on that Celtic would be drawn away to Dundee United in the next round.I suspected this would happen too.On driving home from work tonight, suprise, suprise, I heard on the car radio that we had been drawn away to them right enough. I thought well no wonder we are paranoid. On checking records back over the last three years I found that excluding semi finals, finals and the replay with Rangers last season we have been drawn away in the Scottish Cup consecutively TEN times, the last home tie being in February 2009 against Queen Park. I wonder what the odds are of that happening? Paranoid never!

  25. The only way we will STOP huns entering as a newco, will be for our support to put pressure on our board.

The SPL must abide by the correct rules, what they are saying is Celtic or rangers can never be relegated.

No wonder the English mock our league, wait till they hear this yin.

The current SPL rules seem clear enough on it’s website.

A club unable to fulfill it’s fixtures will have the results/records expunged. The team finishing last and therefore losing membership would instead be kept in membership (that is no relegation). These are the SPL’s own published rules.

So, on the demise of RFC, there IS NO VACANCY.

Why is this ‘alternative’ being peddled by so many without challenge or question?
