On Saturday my mind wandered, as it does, to the demise of Gretna in 2008. The village team were bankrolled through the Scottish league system until promotion to the SPL in 2007 but then the cash ran out. The club went into liquidation a few weeks from the end of the season but while most of the first team squad were made redundant, a few remained on a week-to-week basis to see out the remaining league programme, assisted considerably by the SPL and Livingston FC, who made their ground available.
Should Rangers fail around the same time, I thought, how apt it would be for us to meet them in the Scottish Cup final. We would be there at the end to wave goodbye to a unique institution. Witnesses to the final whistle on a club with an enormously controversial history.
Unfortunately, my hopes were dashed by Dundee United at Ibrox yesterday, who Flushed Away the opposition and won their first game against an SPL team in 2012. We will have to scramble for tickets for the prospective event at another venue.
United seem set to try their hardest to spoil my enjoyment of the Cup. Our quarter final draw against them next month will be one of the toughest games of the season.

They have to be wiped out of existence in their present form.
If they re-emerge as a Newco, then they have to start where any Newco would have to start,i.e. formally apply to join the SFL at the bottom.
After that, it is up to them, if accepted, how quickly, or not, they progress.

While I do hope that Murray will be held culpable for their demise, I don’t think the BBC’s investigation of Whyte is at Murray’s behest. I have a feeling there is a BIG difference between the BBC Scotland and their sports department. I can imagine that Chick and Traynor are in agonies over what has been put in the public domain about their team.

The newco MUST work their way up through the leagues as a newly formed company/team.
This Scottish League system must be seen as fit for purpose and doing the right thing in the eyes of the rest of the world.
Sky Money cannot dictate the workings of the League
If Legal challenges can be (or require) to be taken to stop this then so be it.

Freddiebhoy, I think lawyers are already on the case. It might also be that thoughts of a Newco FC were a tad premature. Not easy to start a Newco under certain circumstances, from certain locations.
Can’t understand how any Celtic supporter is not enjoying the current situation. Personally, if they go the wall, which does seem more likely with every passing day, I would not mind losing the league. Remember the MIBs are still in a position to make “honest mistakes”, as we have witnessed both on Saturday and yesterday.

Aye that is what should happen, and that is what I hope does happen, but I will believe it when I see it.
The media have obviously been briefed about a newco scenario, the club chairmen will have all had meetings with the sfa/spl on the matter.
What if Celtic do the right thing and the other clubs don’t and they are allowed back into the top flight, what happens then, are there deals getting done, will the sfa/spl help out the relegated club to vote them back in.
The only hope I see is that someone takes the sfa/spl to court to stop it.
Will Celtic go to uefa and ask for help in moving to another league citing their fair play rules and the sporting integrity of the game.
The best thing for the game would be to start at the bottom, it would help the small clubs no end, maybe it will take one of the smaller clubs to grow a pair and challenge the powers through the courts.
Whatever interesting times ahead.
