On Saturday my mind wandered, as it does, to the demise of Gretna in 2008. The village team were bankrolled through the Scottish league system until promotion to the SPL in 2007 but then the cash ran out. The club went into liquidation a few weeks from the end of the season but while most of the first team squad were made redundant, a few remained on a week-to-week basis to see out the remaining league programme, assisted considerably by the SPL and Livingston FC, who made their ground available.
Should Rangers fail around the same time, I thought, how apt it would be for us to meet them in the Scottish Cup final. We would be there at the end to wave goodbye to a unique institution. Witnesses to the final whistle on a club with an enormously controversial history.
Unfortunately, my hopes were dashed by Dundee United at Ibrox yesterday, who Flushed Away the opposition and won their first game against an SPL team in 2012. We will have to scramble for tickets for the prospective event at another venue.
United seem set to try their hardest to spoil my enjoyment of the Cup. Our quarter final draw against them next month will be one of the toughest games of the season.

Barcabhoy,
I suspect we have some friends in common in Edinburgh. If you fancy meeting up in Auld Reekie when you’re next in the capital, we could compare notes. I’m sure Paul would give you my details. It would be an honour to meet you.
=======
If Paul gives you an endorsement thats good enough for me. Although I have NO INTENTION of being in Scotland until the weather reaches something that negates the requirement for multiple layers of loro piana………which means May probably !!
Andy Carroll; the poor man’s Gary Hooper?
I was in a Tesco store in Ayrshire today and I noticed that they had a prominent rail of hun clothing and a Rangers t-shirt was on sale for £12 (???). Nae wunner they had plenty left.
Anyway the T-shirt had the Latin Phrase – Semper Paratus 1872
which is a bit Romanish if you ask me.
Does it mean “I’ve always been fond of a Parrot” cos I thought it was goats.
If KK leaves Bellamy on the park, I just know he is gonna score. Paddy Power here I come

No less enjoyable for all that…

Fair do’s, but your ‘too close to the bone(er)’ seems now at this prolonged priapism stage the fluffing results at ibonx seem sagaciously prescient and prudent.
I remain humble, and always at your disposal any task in opposition the wordsmut gangsters at large.

and more tellingly…what becomes the whyte-murry paradox.
you know you can tell us.
Evening all from a wet and slushy north London.Whilst I cannot claim any inside knowledge of the workings
of HMRC I feel I should share the following. In the last two weeks 3 members of my family have received completely
unexpected tax rebates, and for no small amounts I might add, does the panel think that maybe HMRC have
a/ left themselves a wee bit short after paying out rebates
b/ are more than happy to pay out a few million as they are expecting a rather large donation soon.
How nice would it be to think that the huns may in a roundabout sort of way be paying for my new 3D telly..
( just got to convince the wife that we need one :) ) but there will certainly be enough money for lashings of
jelly and ice-cream…….heehee

Evening..
Would I be right in saying that when Gretna went bust a number of teams applied to take their place in the league.
I think this was whittled down to Annan Athletic and Spartans, i think.
So surely the next time a vacancy comes around in the league then Spartans are in pole positition to fill it.
If not i’d like to think Spartans would put up a fight against any other club trying to gain the vacancy.
Also..
If newco hun does become reality i hope there are strict rules applied to them, because they will know to help gain success they will need backing and money.
That means pandering to the bigot pound. If they want 40,000 or 50,000 fans then we aint seen nothing yet regarding bigotry.
If they dont promote bigotry then crowds like Sundays will be a good day for newco hun.

I suppose Tesco could make good piece of business if they sell T-shirts with:
“2012 Rangers Annus Horribilis”
“2012 Celtic Annus Mirabilis”
Barcabhoy,
I’d be happy for you to check me out with our leader and hope to see you in Whighams.
Dress code there is more coloured cords than Loro Piana! I noticed you mentioned Anthony Johnson the other day. I remember AJ telling me about the complicated deal he wrestled with at the time. I hadn’t realised Craigy boy was involved.
Was it foggy today or has the fire sale at AyeBroke begun?
more dross from the “best league in the world”
Just in…. Can somebody give me a lowdown to the scoop being played out regarding minty and the MBB ?
I posted this earlier, but for the benefit of the “late shift” on CQN, here is a video i stumbled on accidentally yesterday. It is inspiring, and shows what this Club is really all about.

Very clever player I like him a lot, my nephews live near Scunthorpe and they both told me what a diamond we were getting, he has really flourished at Celtic and you have to give the scouting team credit we have a team full of diamonds at the moment, some rougher than others of course.
Neil can spot a player unlike super sally( shakes head in a kind of unsurprised way)

I think t-shirts with writing on them is considered snobby in Ayrshire.
Writing in Latin is unacceptable :-)
I’m off to watch Luis Suarez rescue Liverpool
Just downloaded SSB, great call from Martin.

50,000 fans paying £1000 each.
——————————————————————————–
Would solve our problems. £100 over 10 months wouldn’t kill a lot of us. I know I’ll get it in the neck for this but it would be that easy. I know folk will say why should I have to cough up for someone else’s mistake but we’re facing liquidation, it’s that serious so who would back a scheme for the fans to rescue the club in return for, perhaps, fan ownership?
Took about 12 follow up posts before someone pointed out that they couldn’t even get 18,000 to pay £15/£20 to attend their cup tie.
Priceless
A thoroughly enjoyable day at work today.
Two rabid orcs (both who report to me), defiantly declared that they won’t be renewing their season tickets next season.
I helpfully tried to suggest that it’s perhaps not a decision they’ll have to make if there’s no RFC in existence!
How I kept a straight face during our wee discussion today I don’t really know. But when they each left my office, oh how I heartily chortled.
and for Celtic
2012 Annus Jelly and Ice-Cream!

For the first time in yonks I am hoping Thatcher doesn’t snuff it on us. I am on the Fat Bhoy Slims 3 program right now and I’ve lost 4lbs since the start, but all this jelly and ice cream is going to absolutely gub my target weight!

When I read CQN these days I’m more in religious and philosophic mode.
Words about passing and miracles echo of my thoughts.
The erudite and handsome chairman of Barca manages in fewer seconds, his BBC soundbite time their playback soundtrack of eons long nightly hour drivel in cheat masking, the repeated claim of…
‘Fair Play’ in a kind of feck you Real and rankers kinda way.

There’s no guarantee that they will be published.
The tribunal sat in private.

Ditto. Me too please.
Barcabhoy’s thoughts reference Whyte’s duty towards minority shareholders in the disposal of future season tickets is rather profound.
Well worth developing.

I used to think the passing of RFC would be a miracle. Now it’s only a matter of time. One final push………

The public interest would be ill-served by a judgement delivered in confidence.
I expect a full rationale with redactions as regards specific employees.
FOI would come into play otherwise.
ORC? EBT? FTT? SSB? Etc Etc!! Can sumdae tell me what these mean?

Buddy of mine tells me they just get posted on the internet with the judgement ….. what else are these judges doing for weeks on end, other than writing up their judgement.
The fact that the hearing was in private will not influence the publication of the findings…….
