Much of our Champions League history was on show last night, apart from the fragility which has accompanied Celtic so often on the road. The game was immeasurably more difficult than any challenge we face in domestic football. The opening minutes were so stressful, otherwise composed players were spooked, but winning is all about how you react when you are spooked. Do you crumble and concede an early goal?
With less than three minutes on the clock, and Spartak about to take their third corner kick, how many of us thought back to early goals lost in the opening minutes of recent European adventures?
Not for this team, who reacted to being spooked by scoring a genuinely top class goal.
It wasn’t until Spartak went down to 10 men that we made them look like Motherwell (the similarity in possession, passing, composure last night and on Saturday are remarkable) but, Spartak going down to 10 men was not the deciding factor in the outcome of the game. Kris Commons should have won a penalty when Celtic were 0-1 up and Gary Hooper was clean through on the goalkeeper at the incident which led to the red card.
Once level, with 20 minutes remaining, the stage was Celtic’s, but a more illustrious (i.e. expensive and feted) Celtic team had the same stage against a weaker opponent in Anderlecht in 2003 but ended up losing the game. Last night Hooper, Izaguirre, Samaras, Forrest and Brown went about their business in a steady and unspectacular fashion, exuding the confidence you need to win at this level.
No result is achieved in this competition without an enormous performance; just ask those who lost in Belgium nine years ago, including the proudest man in Europe last night.
Bring on the Salt ‘n’ Sauce Rangers.

That’s your opinion
Many others find the comments pro OF
Great performance. We scored three goals, had another ruled out for offside.Spartak had a player sent off because he fouled a Celtic player who was just about to score.Confidence must be sky high.
The worst thing DD said was that they were relegated which was completely untrue and it gives credence to this same club lie.
DD was tryin to be polite to the interviewer but he should have told it like it is in reality.
I don’t care if he praised them as a great club with a great history (they’re dead and he didn’t mention newcos or oldcos but he shouldn’t have said they were relegated).
TSOAL
Superb stuff from the Dortmund fans. Particularly liked the bit where he made them all stop to start a song
TMWYL, all I see is a very large picture which is getting much larger
HT in Manchester.
Words of wisdom from Ray Wilkins [ex Chelsea, Man Utd, AC Milan & Paris SG]
Trying to work out why we managed to play against him so often!!

DD on 5 Live later. I would presume after Man. City game.

Although I dont have any problem with the DD interview as I mentioned earlier, that “relegated” comment was the one thing that grated with me too.
BGFC
What Diarmuid really meant was that Glasgow Rangers have a unique history.
Dear god almighty…..did we not achieve a historic victory last night? Who gives a toss what some remote-from-it-all millionaire geezer says? Was he at that game last night? No.
When did he last even see a game? Who cares. His views mean diddleysquat to me. He can say what he likes. He does not represent Celtic.
Did yez see yon game last night? Are yez lookin’ forward to the minis on Sunday? Are you lookin’ forward to Barca? Benfica? Spartak?
These are good times for us. Enjoy them.
MWD
Dont see the problem with commenting.
Some kind of entity will play out of Ibrox
Desmond bitching about it now is just wrong imho a no comment would be seen as bitching.
A regime change at Ibrox and at Hampden was only ever the realistic option.
When 30k by ST for chuck green ..they will not be going away for ever.
I have no problems with DD comments.

Looks like Puyol and Busquets could be missing in the first game. I know they have a great pool of players, but feel we could get something in Spain.
If we lose, Barca are coming to CP on 9 points and probably already qualified.
Might this work in our favour too?
——
maybe -I was meaning taking something at CP in game 4 –
not game 3 at Camp Nou (not this year anyway..)
If Barca beat us have 9 going into CP game 4
Benfica and Spartak draw game 3
then I could see Barca being content with a point at CP .
If Benfica beat Spartak at home in game 4 then table would be:
Barca 10
Benfica 5
Celtic 5
Spartak 1
With 2 games to go that would mean Barca would be guaranteed top or runner-up spot
So it’s possible Barca may be inclined to go easy at CP (but do they do that?)
From our point of view if Spartak and Benfica draw games 3 & 4 and we get a point v Barca>>.
Barca 10
Celtic 5
Benfica 3
Spartak 2
going into the last 2 games
A Celtic draw in Lisbon in game 5 makes it really interesting if Spartak can hold Barca in Moscow:
Barca 11
Celtic 6
Benfica 4
Spartak 3
Barca are qualified
in theory we could lose 1-2 to Spartak at CP and still finish 2nd in group on 6 points if Barca draw with Benfica in Camp Nou
That would be bizarre
Its quite amazing big Efe has played 3 games for us and looked good in them all and yet the MSM havnt linked him with being closely watched by a top Premier side.Ah well maybe tomorrow.H.H.
Awesome goal from Benzema.
Champions League…..where we are.
city can’t qualify from the group if their defence stays the way it is
to the pedants.. i think his use of the term relegation is spot on :)

Madrid just scored a peach of a goal 2 nil now
BGFC,
did the interviewer really comment on DD having a wry smile during his interview,
if so it suggests he was at the wind up regarding sevco,
personally i couldnae give a monkeys with what he said,
i know they are deid and they know they are deid and pretty soon
they will be even deider
I reckon DD was out of his comfort zone during the Shortbread interview. I don’t think he has the “political” intellect of PL. I was surprised he chose to do the interview in the first place.

Bizarre but brilliant!
Maybe, just maybe, we will be good enough to get the good and lucky breaks this season.
It’s a long time since I felt this positive about our prospects.
Joe Fillipis
Big Efe- who he?
Mountainbhoy
In your opinion. My opinion differs from yours.
Who is right? Who knows. Why comment on them at all. In one fell swoop he has afforded the MSM a reason to move away from our clubs achievement of last night.

Just in. What has Danny Devito done to annoy us?
Preston chairman Peter Ridsdale has been
banned from holding any company
directorships for seven-and-a-half years
following an investigation into financial
irregularities by the Insolvency Service.
The ruling relates to payments totalling ?
347,000 made by Cardiff to Ridsdale
between May 2007 and March 2009 during
his spell as their chairman. The monies
should have been directed to the 60-year-
old’s WH Sports Group (WHSG) consultancy
service.
WHSG was liquidated in April 2009 with
liabilities of ?478,698, including significant
tax debts of ?442,353 owed to HM Revenue
and Customs. Ridsdale’s wife Sophie served
as a co-director at WHSG and has been banned until April 2016.
Nothing compared to what will happen to the rangers directors.
I had the pleasure to talk to Dermot D prior to the Benfica game. I asked him how he viewed the recently published accounts of Celtic. He seemed content with the situation.

MWD,
since when did you care what the MSM said about our club,
they are a total irrelevance now
Philbhoy
I reckon we could just as easily be sitting on 6 points had Sammi and Gary been available for the Benfica game at Celtic Park.
I find DD’s comments about thems, anathema to all Celtic supporters. He should have never have given them the oxygen of approval that they still exist.
However, being the successful businessman he is, I assume that he’s more intelligent and more informed than I am, and for that reason I will give him the benefit of any doubt.
I often feel intellectually inferior to the majority of posters on here, and can see both sides of this argument. I just hope I’ve chosen the right side!!

well said. Do as I do dont read or listen to thems just consentrate on Celtic and things are always fine

1-0 Dortmund
greatgoal dortmond
Whoooooooooooo ;-))))))
HH
MWD, the MSM ? since when did we give a feck about them? what has happened though is that a Newmedia channel like CQN has moved on from last nights achievements to winje about an irrelevant comment from one of our shareholders! the only part of his interview which has importance is his glowing review of our manager..
sorry great goal Dortmund
Jonny The Tim
Don’t worry , Diarmuid is a cute ,crafty Corkonian.
Dortmund take a very well deserved lead against, as Gary Neville calls them, Machstercty. Were it not for Joe Hart it could have been 3 or 4 by now. Still might be soon (hopefully!)
