The best laid Foundations

508

The Celtic FC Foundation are holding a golf day in April to raise funds for autism in Scotland, the first such day the Foundation have organised.  When planning for the event, Leftybhoy, Brogan Rogan, Harry Brady, Tyneside No.1, me, Thomas and Jane from the Foundation, and Foundation chief exec, Tony Hamilton, wondered if and how we would be able to get winning Ryder Cup player, Stephen Gallacher, to help out.

Over two meetings we discussed strategy on how to get to Stephen, how to hone our pitch, explain the autism work, so that we might be able to get a pin flag signed, or something like that.  Two meetings!

Tony Hamilton was a Firhill last night when a Celtic fan spoke to him:

Celtic fan: “Are you the guy organising the golf day?”

Tony (thinking he’s about to sell a ticket): “Aye”.

Celtic fan: “I’m a golf pro, I might be able to help out with auction stuff.”

Tony (now worried about that ticket sale): “Great.  Which course are you pro at?”

Celtic fan: “No course, I’m on the European tour.  I’ll leave stuff with Stevie.”

Tony (confused what that means and wondering why this guy doesn’t have a regular job in a golf shop): “That’s very kind of you.”

After the game Tony checks his phone and sees a message from Tyneside No.1:

“Ryder Cup winner Stephen Gallacher in stand tonight. Have you rugby tackled him re our Golf Day yet?”

Tony’s been staring at a wall ever since.

Information on the golf day, complete with gratefully received supporting items from Stephen Gallacher, available here.

  1. Any Belfast bound yins–leave some info where you’ll be and I’ll make it for a pint. Otherwise, the Fountain Bar in Fountain Lane–There’s a session on from 9 to 12. Mixed music–trad, country, etc and half tunes/songs. Good pints of Guinness. Any trad lovers will get their fix in Madden’s, Kelly’s Cellars, or the Sunflower. Rock Bar for off your head punters and rebel. Andytown Social Club has been refurbished and looks great. If you want cheap pints, singsong, some music–get to the best kept secret in Andytown ,Casement Park.

Apologies for the “current affairs”: Channel 4 News – Green Candidate: “there are no elected Conservatives in Norwich South, other than those in New Labour”. Sums it up quite nicely.

I don’t start political debate on here – but when I hear stupidity – I finish it.

How many times do I have to say this accepted truth – The Labour Party is the ONLY party EVER to give/do anything for the poorest and working class in our Country (UK)

    From 1945 and the Welfare State/NHS to 2010 and the Minimum Wage/Tax Credits/SureStart/Winter Fuel Payments/Tax Credits/Child Benefit.

Support the SNP if you like – but you cannot name on policy and/or proposal EVER uttered by them, that was directed at the working class/poorest.

Celtic Supporters backing the SNP – it’s the craziest state of affairs that I have ever came accross – “if you know your history” – you would/should run a mile from them.

I loved playing school fitba as a boy, I loved coaching it when my boys were at Primary School and I encourage my son to make the most of his school footy.

I agree it’s a great chance to play with your genuine pals.

No matter how far you go in football you always look back on playing in teams that included mates as happiest football you play.

DD – It’s a breeze mate. That 36 hour online check-in nonsense just confuses people.

If you were on holiday for a week say,and didn’t have access to a printer or a computer – how could you check in online and print off boarding passes?

That’s why they have those wee machines at the airport for – they just don’t make this clear to the customer.

    Brilliant m8ty,

Me and DD will use the machines in the place, that is obviously a lot simpler. That was the method we used with my company flying back up from Southampton last year.

You are right they make it more confusing than it ought to be.

Ronny is the new Stein for Me, he is the BOSS.

God, the Most High and Almighty, Thanks for Celtic.

  21. DD/Petec,

You will still need boarding cards even if you check in online. It may be beneficial to print them at home, as some airlines impose a fee if you do this at the airport. Anyway, have a blast, I wish I could be there.
