The best laid Foundations

The Celtic FC Foundation are holding a golf day in April to raise funds for autism in Scotland, the first such day the Foundation have organised.  When planning for the event, Leftybhoy, Brogan Rogan, Harry Brady, Tyneside No.1, me, Thomas and Jane from the Foundation, and Foundation chief exec, Tony Hamilton, wondered if and how we would be able to get winning Ryder Cup player, Stephen Gallacher, to help out.

Over two meetings we discussed strategy on how to get to Stephen, how to hone our pitch, explain the autism work, so that we might be able to get a pin flag signed, or something like that.  Two meetings!

Tony Hamilton was a Firhill last night when a Celtic fan spoke to him:

Celtic fan: “Are you the guy organising the golf day?”

Tony (thinking he’s about to sell a ticket): “Aye”.

Celtic fan: “I’m a golf pro, I might be able to help out with auction stuff.”

Tony (now worried about that ticket sale): “Great.  Which course are you pro at?”

Celtic fan: “No course, I’m on the European tour.  I’ll leave stuff with Stevie.”

Tony (confused what that means and wondering why this guy doesn’t have a regular job in a golf shop): “That’s very kind of you.”

After the game Tony checks his phone and sees a message from Tyneside No.1:

“Ryder Cup winner Stephen Gallacher in stand tonight. Have you rugby tackled him re our Golf Day yet?”

Tony’s been staring at a wall ever since.

Information on the golf day, complete with gratefully received supporting items from Stephen Gallacher, available here.

    BOBBY MURDOCH’S CURLED-UP WINKLEPICKERS 11:31 on 13 February, 2015

I’ve been fairly busy in the past few months, so don’t get on as much as I used to.

On the few occasions I have had a browse I tend to see the same points raised by the same people, so that makes me feel a bit better that I’m not missing too much!

Good to see that Audheid and KevJungle sorted out their differences over a few beers…

Next month, Aye. Already booked the train and looking forward to the 28th.

How are you? Tragic incident in Bath the other day.

The only good thing about that tackle on Suarez is that the ref had the red out of his pocket pretty much by the time Suarez hit the ground. Might have been a yellow here.

    Livibhoy,

I made the same point re JD and VvD to my brother, the other day.

I suggesteg that Celtic talk to city with the view to leaving Jason with us for another year, then if VvD agrees, take both the following year.

Kompany is, I believe, on a dangerous decline, which is beginning to cost them.

His timing is a bit off and he commits to challenges, when he should hold back.

Wishful thinking, I suppose, but I see it as a good move for Jason and perhaps if the signed ?Virgil and left him for a year, then, good for him, too.

  5. LiviBhoy

I met him a few times and said exactly that to him, he was always very complimentary about our club as was Paul Davis:)))

I was glad when big TA got himself back on track:))

  6. Just phoned St Mirren ticket office re away game on 3rd April as they are selling tickets directly to Celtic supporters. She says the game is now sold out! She was a total cow on the phone it was unbelievable.

Virgil is ready to go now. We are lucky to have him. I will enjoy watching him for the short time he has left here. We should hold out for a fortune for him.

It’s a risky situation to become a sort of feeder team for City but it sort of makes sense.

I was at the Paul Davis testimonial. I was just a kid. Brilliant day and night that.

  10. Cultsbhoy – All Celtic need at CH is ok? I am surprised at that from you given I have come to realise you seem to be a successful youth coach.

The way Celtic play now requires 2 CH who are very good footballers, otherwise the whole style of play changes would you not say?

If we had a Bobo / Joos partnership now for example…. Broonie would need to drop deeper to offer alongside Nir as any forward pass from the CH’s would be a lottery. In turn, Stefan and the 2 wide players do likewise. In fact, we would likely go long as opposed to short to feet from Craig Gordon!

    Total change of play.

Thats why i think we may end up with Lustig and Mulgrew unless we get lucky with scouting or Man City have another Denayer!

No way will City ship out Kompany. There’s a shortage of top defenders who can actually defend, and he is one. Can also organise a defence.

He has years left at the top. Terry is what – 34? and still strolling it.

City have tried about 10 partners with VK and none have convinced. Maybe they see JD as the one.

My guess is he will go on loan to a Sunderland /West Brom to see how he copes in the EPL with a view to playing him with VK the following season.

  12. GlassTwoThirdsFull

The game is all about opinions I guess.

I think Kompany is at his highest market value for his ability at the minute. To rebuild you must make big decisions. Man City from what I have seen of them and I don;t watch a lot of EPL games require a new spine middle to back. Toure has to be punted on and I would also sell Kompany. Both players who will fetch huge fees at the minute and probably the last year they will command a big fee.

The marker for City will be the Barcelona matches. I think Kompany will be able to prove his worth in that match against fast attacking players who run from deep. If i am wrong I am delighted to be proved so. I have always rated Kompany. Just shooting the breeze on what I think regarding our CB pairing which I think is one of the best in Britain at the minute.

We are in a strange situation. If we shut out Inter home and away and progress then we face another decent side and if our CB’s show up well there will be a lot of interest for both. We are a victim of our success and if we get the results we all crave in Europe the spotlight falls on our best players.

Like City Ronny may make a decision on young O’Connell and sign a similar player to VVD and play them both and stick with it. WGS done something similar with Scotland with an unfancied pairing. It may be that Ronny is working on a back up pairing just now with the development squad or in training.

The beauty of football is the discussions that can be had on what might happen and what you think might or should happen.

  17. Centre back is mostly a mature players position. That isn’t a reference to age but outlook on the game.

If we have any mature big lads in reserves/ youth squad we should be bleeding them in to games – giving them 15 minutes at the end of games if we are 2 goals up.

We don’t need world beaters in that position
