The best laid Foundations

508

The Celtic FC Foundation are holding a golf day in April to raise funds for autism in Scotland, the first such day the Foundation have organised.  When planning for the event, Leftybhoy, Brogan Rogan, Harry Brady, Tyneside No.1, me, Thomas and Jane from the Foundation, and Foundation chief exec, Tony Hamilton, wondered if and how we would be able to get winning Ryder Cup player, Stephen Gallacher, to help out.

Over two meetings we discussed strategy on how to get to Stephen, how to hone our pitch, explain the autism work, so that we might be able to get a pin flag signed, or something like that.  Two meetings!

Tony Hamilton was a Firhill last night when a Celtic fan spoke to him:

Celtic fan: “Are you the guy organising the golf day?”

Tony (thinking he’s about to sell a ticket): “Aye”.

Celtic fan: “I’m a golf pro, I might be able to help out with auction stuff.”

Tony (now worried about that ticket sale): “Great.  Which course are you pro at?”

Celtic fan: “No course, I’m on the European tour.  I’ll leave stuff with Stevie.”

Tony (confused what that means and wondering why this guy doesn’t have a regular job in a golf shop): “That’s very kind of you.”

After the game Tony checks his phone and sees a message from Tyneside No.1:

“Ryder Cup winner Stephen Gallacher in stand tonight. Have you rugby tackled him re our Golf Day yet?”

Tony’s been staring at a wall ever since.

Information on the golf day, complete with gratefully received supporting items from Stephen Gallacher, available here.

Thanks for that video of Paul McBride laying into the SFA. He doesn’t hold back and gives it to them with both barrels. What a shame both him and Paul Mconville are no longer with us.

    Cheers

I loved playing school fitba as a boy, I loved coaching it when my boys were at Primary School and I encourage my son to make the most of his school footy.

I agree it’s a great chance to play with your genuine pals.

No matter how far you go in football you always look back on playing in teams that included mates as happiest football you play.

That’s basically the ingredient good managers try to foster.. It can make the difference.

Thanks. I come in and look at some recent posts. Never expect to read anything that matters to me.

I stand beside Pete Rose and declare him to be an all-time American hero.

I’m grateful to you for remembering him.

I was at that Sunderland game.

We were at least two classes ahead of them.

I may be wrong, probably am, but I thought we beat them 5-1 and Baxter hardly got a kick of the ball.

Tontine Tim will be an authority on those games, as his memory is much better than mine.

There was a Johnny Kelly who played for Sparta against the Currant Buns but it turn out he was English. I think he was in the Sparta team who we played in a friendly at Paradise.

According to “The Official illustrated history” John Kelly played 2 games season 60/61 against Motherwell at centre and next week against Dundee at inside left. Jim Conway & Big Yogi shared the centre spot for rest of season & Willie Fernie and Stevie Chalmers took the inside left position.

My daughter Julie told me we don’t need printed tickets. We need to check-in online with our booking reference number tomorrow though.

  18. Holiday in the Canaries.

Off topic, I know, but has anyone of you well-off CQNers got a two bedroom apartment for rent in the Canaries in March?

Reason I’m asking is that I want to take a deserving elderly couple away from their problems for a couple of weeks in the sunshine to help cheer them up!

I am not looking for charity but am frustrated in trying to get a decent place on internet.

    My email address is tgmcfadden@talktalk.net.

    …………………………………………………………………..

Charlie Gallagher (along with Paddy Crerand) was one of the best passers of a football I have ever seen! He was unfairly harangued by some of our support because he was unwilling ‘ to put the boot in’ but was still a player of consummate skill!

An unassuming gentleman off the field, Charlie deserves to be remembered as one of the gifted Celtic players who was largely responsible for making others legends!

    Hail! Hail!

  19. Delaneys Dunky,

Yes, I think that is correct, apparently 36 hours before the flight. Don’t we need to print something off though?

DD/petec – Flybe have wee machines at the airport where you can check in and print boarding passes. You just need your flight numbers. It’s easy enough to work and only takes a few minutes.
