The Craig Whyte narrative. Kris, Leo.

1626

Best news of the day?  Kris Commons wants to be involved tomorrow against Barcelona.  I doubt Kris is anywhere near match fit, so there’s no chance of him starting on Wednesday against Astana, but a 15 minute cameo, when the Astana players’ body clocks are telling them it’s after 2am, would go down a treat.

I’ve always been a bit more ambivalent about Leonel Messi than most.  “He’s not hit the levels of Ronaldinho” is my stock comment, and then there’s the dirty little subject.  (Tax).

But his media comments ahead of tomorrow’s International Champions Cup game, “I have a Celtic jersey at home. The games against Celtic were special and I want to remember them”, proves there’s substance to the man.

I’ve a Celtic jersey at home too, Leo.  A few of us here do.

Former-Rangers former vice-chairman Donald Findlay is to defend Craig Whyte is his forthcoming trial.

Whyte’s urban legend is going to be difficult to shift, but it’s not accurate.  We mocked Rangers fans a few years ago, referring to him as “Our Hero” but he never was.  He was the bag man for a very dirty job.

How he handled the SFA, Uefa, HMRC and, most crucially, the insolvency court, when he managed to secure the appointment of Duff and Phelps as Rangers administrators was crucial in the continuation of football at Ibrox.

It was Duff and Phelps who gave Newco the right to use the name “Rangers”, after which point Whyte could claim he was passing on “Rangers”.  Everyone else mocked this liquidation fantasy at the time.  Until liquidation became a reality, that is.

Whyte left Newco relatively safe in the hands of Charles Green, where it would have thrived, if it hadn’t faced a hostile and damaging takeover bid from its first week of life.

Our auction prize, donated by (the pretty fabulous) Celtic sponsor, Intelligent Car Leasing, closes just after 1pm today.

You can win:

2 seats in the directors’ box

Champagne reception

5 course meal in the Walfrid Suite

Fully expenses bar (pre and post-match)

Half time snacks and refreshments

Car Parking

At the game against Kilmarnock on 24 September.

Money raised from the auction will go towards building a school kitchen in Malawi for Mary’s Meals. It it will be the 5th CQN school kitchen.

Our four existing kitchens feed over 2000 primary aged kids every day. School attendance has increased 30% since kitchens were built, as kids attend for their daily meal. This has an impact on health, education and life chances.

You can follow the auction on eBay here.  Thank you.

I’m off to Aberdour now for the 12th annual CQN Golf Open.  I’ll be the one holding the jackets.

See you then.

No chance would it have finished 1-1

I’ve always been sceptical of Craig Gordon even way back to his Hearts days. We never had an issue scoring against him & always thought he was suspect at cross balls. Certainly won me over in his first 6 months at the club but since then he’s been decidedly iffy. Probably cost us just as many goals as Efe. Funny he gets a pass? I would be looking to replace but yes let’s hope he rediscovers his early form. HH.

Never mind Clint Hill. We have Efe to knife. Scott when Efe leaves, just like we did to Sammy in the recent past.

New phenomenon – nope. First Celtic player I recall being booed was a McStay, not Paul, but his bro, Willie.

That must’ve went down really well in that most Celtic of households.

Celtic supporters are the channel the MSM uses to undermine the club. Remember all those transfer stories on the eve of big matches ?

I’ve listened to some amount of diddies at Celtic park rubbish our players. Some of it the most inane, malicious shite that Huns would struggle to contrive. Most of them won’t stop it, unless they are shouted down and embarrassed. Some are too stupid to discern how damaging their (own) weakness actually is.

Yeah i remember a few howlers that got past CG. The Mcmanus one at Parkhead under WGS always stands out. We scored a lot of last minute winners under WGS. He build a good unit the wee man.

  6. So it’s the medians fault that Celtic aren’t very good?

Nothing to do with the lack of signings etc.

If you criticise then you are doing the medias job?

This is the sort of guff we laugh at the Huns for.

Of course the media is anti Celtic. It’s just part of Scotland’s inherent racism.

But to deny what’s staring you in the face is just dumb. The board are ripping us off whilst plotting behind our backs. They are our most immediate enemy.

As I said, the hits just keep right on coming, I swear they call each other, same stuff, every day, every hour of the day, we know it’s your opinion we get that, but ffs, try another subject, and give us day aff, ffs.

  8. I think Craig Gordon’s fall in form has a lot to do with the exit of Van Dijk and Denayer.

  10. BCW the latest is that anyone who dares criticise Celtic are a media plant. I just saw Owens post yesterday. Hilarious. It’s this childlike need to defend the indefensible that I find funny.

Tony d you subject this site to your repeated inane drivel endlessly. I am so bored with the whole thing that I rarely post but it seems you like one rule for you and one for anyone who may say something that you disagree with.

‘The booing of Celtic players by Celtic fans is by no means a new or recent phenomenon.’

    ###

    Agreed.

Celtic fans need a scapegoat. I’m not sure if it was ever thus but it certainly goes back a long way.

Having said that I don’t recall Neil Lennon actually being booed. I remember sighs and hurrumphs of exasperation at yet another sideways pass and no doubt the usual unsolicited advice from some of the expert coaches in the crowd, but not actual booing.

  15. Has anyone heard from KevJ today? I lurked for a long time before posting and whilst I didn’t always agree with his views, you could not help liking the guy!

Your memories are in accordance with mine ..

The criticism of players on the park has taken many forms over the years . A variation I remember –

Frank McAvennie’s debut . . A home draw with Hibs . The draw flattered Celtic . . I was at my habitual spot at Priests Corner . . Loud disapproval at every error ( and there were many ) and loud pointed approval of every piece of skill and intelligence by Paul Kane .and John Collins . . I can still see / hear the angry man behind me pointedly shouting –. ” Aitken – hope you’re ####### watching this – it’s called fitba “

And of course you are entitled to that, but it’s like the same club thing, I get into that as soon as I see it or heart it, DR I’m banned, ET I’m banned, Herrold I’m banned, RC I’m banned, Talk Sport I’m banned, so when neganon2 sais the same thing in here day in day out, he’s getting it, be that as it may, I doubt if I’ll be banned from here, so you’ll get no apologies from me on that .

Did Neil not get booed in a Champions League game for passing the ball backwards at Celtic Park?

Booing a Celtic player while on the field during a match is unforgivable. It’s a Hun trait that has slowly dripped into or fan debase since the days of MON starting with the booing of team off the park at half and full time if there had been a less than acceptable performance.

I boo’d once when I was a wee guy at a particularly dirty Rapid Vienna player and got a cuff roon the ear fae my old man.

Told emphatically that that’s what they do not us.

  21. I don’t ever remember Lenny being boo’d ? I know his auld man said he didn’t like the reactions from a lot of people in the stadium, but boo’d ?

  24. In defence of StA.

Lots of things just don’t look right.

Starting with his running style, his energy, his general lack of urgency.

However he is either playing in a team containing one SB who will not pass to him.

Or he is playing in a MF4 with JF, NC and ScA.

    Lightweight winger.

Heavyweight mentalist forward slumming it in left MF.

Part time lightweight playmaker who styles himself on the TFOD’s CA of a few years back when he was getting boo’ed during the warm up.

    Consequently not a great mix.

Plus he is also playing with TR as the No.10 / Advanced playmaker.

Something very WGS about this set up.

Playmaker after playmaker after playmaker but no water carrier to do the donkey work.

Consequently Not being given a fair chance but then again he seems to have disappeared into his shell and hoped for the final whistle.

At least ScA moved up a gear in the last 20 minutes and got involved.

Pretty poor at the tackling but at least he gave up hiding.

At times I have been really impressed by StA vision, passing and on field intelligence and movement. At other times I have been moved to tears of frustration as he wanders about the park looking lost wishing he was back with his “family” at DU.

    Something has to give.

    We are wasting a talent.

And currently he is wasting our time and money.

    BR do your magic.

Or failing that boot him up the erse and ban him from reading the Grauniad.
