The Craig Whyte narrative. Kris, Leo.

1626

Best news of the day?  Kris Commons wants to be involved tomorrow against Barcelona.  I doubt Kris is anywhere near match fit, so there’s no chance of him starting on Wednesday against Astana, but a 15 minute cameo, when the Astana players’ body clocks are telling them it’s after 2am, would go down a treat.

I’ve always been a bit more ambivalent about Leonel Messi than most.  “He’s not hit the levels of Ronaldinho” is my stock comment, and then there’s the dirty little subject.  (Tax).

But his media comments ahead of tomorrow’s International Champions Cup game, “I have a Celtic jersey at home. The games against Celtic were special and I want to remember them”, proves there’s substance to the man.

I’ve a Celtic jersey at home too, Leo.  A few of us here do.

Former-Rangers former vice-chairman Donald Findlay is to defend Craig Whyte is his forthcoming trial.

Whyte’s urban legend is going to be difficult to shift, but it’s not accurate.  We mocked Rangers fans a few years ago, referring to him as “Our Hero” but he never was.  He was the bag man for a very dirty job.

How he handled the SFA, Uefa, HMRC and, most crucially, the insolvency court, when he managed to secure the appointment of Duff and Phelps as Rangers administrators was crucial in the continuation of football at Ibrox.

It was Duff and Phelps who gave Newco the right to use the name “Rangers”, after which point Whyte could claim he was passing on “Rangers”.  Everyone else mocked this liquidation fantasy at the time.  Until liquidation became a reality, that is.

Whyte left Newco relatively safe in the hands of Charles Green, where it would have thrived, if it hadn’t faced a hostile and damaging takeover bid from its first week of life.

Our auction prize, donated by (the pretty fabulous) Celtic sponsor, Intelligent Car Leasing, closes just after 1pm today.

You can win:

2 seats in the directors’ box

Champagne reception

5 course meal in the Walfrid Suite

Fully expenses bar (pre and post-match)

Half time snacks and refreshments

Car Parking

At the game against Kilmarnock on 24 September.

Money raised from the auction will go towards building a school kitchen in Malawi for Mary’s Meals. It it will be the 5th CQN school kitchen.

Our four existing kitchens feed over 2000 primary aged kids every day. School attendance has increased 30% since kitchens were built, as kids attend for their daily meal. This has an impact on health, education and life chances.

You can follow the auction on eBay here.  Thank you.

I’m off to Aberdour now for the 12th annual CQN Golf Open.  I’ll be the one holding the jackets.

See you then.

  1. Embra Mike – that is incredible! John James points out that dafabet exposure from this tournament on Celtics jerseys is also significant. I imagine it played a role in the level of sponsorship they are willing to offer.

  2. Any signings on the horizon? But of momentum building and it would be great to keep that going with some quality new faces at the club.

    What’s happening with Sinclair?

  3. BMWC,

So your prediction was correct yesterday. EF Ambrose to score an own goal!! I know you didn’t post that but I got the vibes through the ether.

  4. DUFC and Hibs will be in a tough battle with each other this season. Hope they both get back up. Would be good for football to have two historic and financially viable clubs in the top flight to replace any remaining basket cases like, say, just as an example. TRFC.

  5. Just received a message while on holiday that Tommy Gemmell had another bad fall on Friday and has broken his other hip. He lay for 12 hours until found and is in a bad way in the hospital at Larbert.

Tommy has been very frail and this is the terrible news we’d been dreading. He is a fighter though so please keep him in your prayers. Once a Lion, Tommy.

  6. Anybody know what the story is with GMS? He seems to have disappeared completely. H H Hebcelt

It never even crossed my mind, mate. I didn’t think he would be playing,TBH.

Thought it would be ideal for a runout for Kolo Toure.

Btw,spare a thought for MADMITCH. Bad enough wi two SA in midfield,we now have two KT in defence!

You could be on to plums down that way, bud. Best bet might be Bulford near Amesbury as it has a large army camp.

I know that The Crown in Ludgershall used to show our games, fair old contingent too,but it might be a bit of a hike just on the off-chance.

I’ll ask around tomorrow, but to be honest,I’m not even sure that the match is on at all on tv.

  16. Thunder Road on

Thought Efe had a pretty good game yesterday despite the og.

He nearly did the exact same thing v Astana but fortunately it looped over our bar.

What disappointed me about the goal was his composure at that point and the what looked like a lack of communication from teamates.

Efe was picking Suarez up and had a look at Suarez as he dropped off at the edge of the box looking for the cutback, so Efe should have had a bit more awareness of what else was going on behind him and could have left it if he had.

A good shout would have helped but it seemed like a desperate swipe and perhaps that came from a lack of confidence?

Who knows what’s going on in that man’s head when he takes to the field for us now, but 1 thing’s for sure……getting on a players back will not help them.

Maybe im imagining it but in the cloudy recesses of my mind, i remember times when a player could get a roar of approval for winning a tackle or even just a throw in……..of supporters chanting a players name in an effort to pick him back up after a mistake because they knew or at least hoped getting behind the man might help him and therefore the team and if anything it will make his heart swell.

    Support.

Today for some, support means paying money to watch the game and expecting to be entertained by fantastic football, seeing a bunch of goals and having the right to lambaste whatever/whoever displeases them.

Never thought like that and hopefully i never will.

Go to the game and get behind them, build them up, cheer anything good they do and swear silently to yourself when they make a balls up and then pick that player back up with some support.

That’s the way i see it anyway.

    Best support in the world?

Sometimes we can be and bhoy is it noticed when we step up, but do we only do it now when things are going good?

Cannae remember the last time i saw a spontaneous walk on.

Maybe too many good times lately have led us to being spoiled and soft?

I reckon that probably everyone wants the best for us and the criticism comes from a hope that something will be improved by doing so but i can’t help think its counterproductive.

Get behind them…….clap every good pass, roar at every tackle, shy, corner or goal kick won.

Make them feel 10 foot tall and maybe we will be a 12th man once again.

  17. Hope you get well soon, TG. My Dad was talking of you fondly just the other day. What a shot, says he. And indeed you had some shot, Tommy. Plenty of great memories of you in your prime.

By the way, there was more than one booing of Efe yesterday and then there was the cheering when he was substituted………………..Leaves a bad taste in the mouth. imo.

  22. embramike says "the Huns are Deid" on

Huns drawn at home may not be the biggest surprise. Wait until the 2 live matches are announced.

With 2 all premier matches, Celtic v Motherwell and St Johnstone v Hearts, what odds Huns v a 1st div team gets the TV money ?

  23. For the life of me cannot understand booing any player in a hooped shirt. Positively Hun like. Think it has to do with Supporters now being viewed as Consumers but if anything should give a lie to that notion it’s Big Tams plight.

Would love to be at Celtic Pk this Wednesday. Will be the first CLQ home game missed in a while. The difference between a Karagandy and a Maribor. I wish it could be bottled for the players to taste and it’s not even that round.

    On other matters JJ site.

Norman Bates FC so fitting in so many different respects.
