The Craig Whyte narrative. Kris, Leo.

1626

Best news of the day?  Kris Commons wants to be involved tomorrow against Barcelona.  I doubt Kris is anywhere near match fit, so there’s no chance of him starting on Wednesday against Astana, but a 15 minute cameo, when the Astana players’ body clocks are telling them it’s after 2am, would go down a treat.

I’ve always been a bit more ambivalent about Leonel Messi than most.  “He’s not hit the levels of Ronaldinho” is my stock comment, and then there’s the dirty little subject.  (Tax).

But his media comments ahead of tomorrow’s International Champions Cup game, “I have a Celtic jersey at home. The games against Celtic were special and I want to remember them”, proves there’s substance to the man.

I’ve a Celtic jersey at home too, Leo.  A few of us here do.

Former-Rangers former vice-chairman Donald Findlay is to defend Craig Whyte is his forthcoming trial.

Whyte’s urban legend is going to be difficult to shift, but it’s not accurate.  We mocked Rangers fans a few years ago, referring to him as “Our Hero” but he never was.  He was the bag man for a very dirty job.

How he handled the SFA, Uefa, HMRC and, most crucially, the insolvency court, when he managed to secure the appointment of Duff and Phelps as Rangers administrators was crucial in the continuation of football at Ibrox.

It was Duff and Phelps who gave Newco the right to use the name “Rangers”, after which point Whyte could claim he was passing on “Rangers”.  Everyone else mocked this liquidation fantasy at the time.  Until liquidation became a reality, that is.

Whyte left Newco relatively safe in the hands of Charles Green, where it would have thrived, if it hadn’t faced a hostile and damaging takeover bid from its first week of life.

Our auction prize, donated by (the pretty fabulous) Celtic sponsor, Intelligent Car Leasing, closes just after 1pm today.

You can win:

2 seats in the directors’ box

Champagne reception

5 course meal in the Walfrid Suite

Fully expenses bar (pre and post-match)

Half time snacks and refreshments

Car Parking

At the game against Kilmarnock on 24 September.

Money raised from the auction will go towards building a school kitchen in Malawi for Mary’s Meals. It it will be the 5th CQN school kitchen.

Our four existing kitchens feed over 2000 primary aged kids every day. School attendance has increased 30% since kitchens were built, as kids attend for their daily meal. This has an impact on health, education and life chances.

You can follow the auction on eBay here.  Thank you.

I’m off to Aberdour now for the 12th annual CQN Golf Open.  I’ll be the one holding the jackets.

See you then.

Hello this is WEE BGFC. Watched the game yesterday. Heard the booing of efe ambrose who had a blinder yesterday. Could not be more embarrased. Hun like behaviour. Bad cràc. At the leshter game, there was a wee twit who i had a go at for booing efe on the feild at half time. Prolaby trying to impress his stupid twit pals. Bad cràc. Efe one of the best defenders we have. Playing him last man means that if he makes a mistook, it results in a goal. Play him in holding midfield and he shall do-eth unto us goodness.

I wonder what the plc board decided to go for and how much we may pay for it this year with honest mistakes.

No wonder Neganon goes off on one!

  9. Ah, so the ice cold R*ngers ball comes out of the draw with another easy home cup tie.

    Uncanny eh?

I am liking the way BR is going about his business at the moment.

There seems to be a bit of variation in the tactics , as opposed to RD , where plan B was trying to get different players to execute Plan A.

Its going to take a while to truly dump the hangover from RD of too many average players, too big a squad, and an unfit squad.

Also, I am prepared to give guys who went backwards or didnt perform another chance, until Xmas, specifically Janko, Simu, Boyata, Bitton, Forrest and Johansen. For others like Cifci he will never make it, whilst GMS & Allen are probably just a wee bit short of the standard we need. Which leads me onto two last guys

    1) Armstrong is a potential club captain imho, but we need to find his best position

    2) Dembele is still a very young player and lets remember that before folk start getting on his case

Don’t be daft. How would one ice cold ball work?

Now one boiling hot ball (Peterhead) coming after one ice cold ball (sevco) would work.

The important thing is to get the temperature right, which explains today’s delay in the draw.

Three men in a Boat…. Slowly recovering from my wee sail round the the Kyles of Bute and thought I let you know how it went (Make a change from arguing about booing!,btw never booed in 73 years but swore plenty at some). The ‘boat’ was a Rustler36 ocean going yacht apparently and slept six. We left Port Bannatyne for Lamlash as winds were not in our favour(must have lost the toss!) and sailed serenely down arriving about 6pm. A wee trip in from the mooring and three pints were bought which were almost expensive as TBM’s taxi another three then back to boat for grub.A good day. Next day set sail for Tarbet to fuel up though had been ‘under sail’ for 90 percent of the time but weather less amenable than day before but one hour on and two off at the steering lark was okay. Left Tarbert and went to a great place called Otter Ferry though never saw an otter or a ferry A couple of pints and home-made fish and chips tartar sauce and tomato sauce also home-made bill 60 pounds. The calm before the storm .. Next we went from OF (the place not the past Glasgow rivalry) to Port Bannatyne round the top end and that was something else. See all that reeling in and running out and zigzagging back and forth it is bloody murder and to make things worse stupid head here banged his inside thigh on thingy when he slipped!! It has got more colours today that Celtic have tops! and it is still sair Anyway next time I’m asked I think I will say the house needs painting!, I am now fully aware that there are NO ropes on a boat but Mari lines than I put on in a week, even the dinghy has wan and it’s a painter apparently don’t remember the rest. WehavesailedforthelasttimewillsticktothelagerCSC.. correction.for Mari read mair Fat lot of good Higher English does you when you meet a’corrector’.

Booing our own’s a no-no,my old man always told me that was a hun thing.Apart from anything else it’s counter productive.I think for all parties, especially Efe,it’d be better if he moved on.But until he does he’s a Celtic player and will have my full backing.

  19. Draw stats in the cups?

Refereeing Stats for our old pal Craig Thompson from period 2005/6 to present.

This shows the number of red cards dished out in games he has officiated, league and cup games.

    2005/6 – C-0 reds, Huns-1 red

    2006/7 – C-0 reds, H-0 reds

    2007/8 – C-0 reds, H-3 reds

    2008/9 – C-0 reds, H-0 reds

    2009/10 – C-1 red, H-2 reds

    2010/11 – C-3 reds, H-0 reds

    2011/12 – C-2 reds, H-0 reds

    2012/13 – C-0 reds, H-0 reds

    2013/14 – C-1 red, H-0 reds

    2014/15 – C- 1 red, H-1 red

    2015/16 – C-2 red, H-0 red

Grand total is Celtic-10 reds, Huns-7 reds.

    I didn’t bother checking yellows.

    Some will say that he couldn’t have done many new hun games since the old mob were liquidated but they are as follows;

    3 in 2011/12

    1 in 2012/13

    0 in 2013/14

    5 in 2014/15

    1 in 2015/16

The law of averages does not apply to them when measured in context against Celtic.

However, Craig is picked for his game management. Sleeker is a perfect fit for him.

In season 2013/14 & 2014/15 he sent off Virgil in 13 mins & 11 mins respectively. In season 2015/16 he sent off Efe in….11 mins.

As our Exile oft states….sort the refs!

  21. CultsBhoy - sees right through Lawwell and the Board on

    Clashcitybhoy

Agree – I tried to make similar point yesterday. BR must reassess whole team using his own benchmarks to see who can adapt to his preferred style so it’s a clean sheet for everybody. The difficulty is in assessing guys when there is an absence of a team through sheer misguided speculation. BR needs to dismantle the Lawwell legacy – salvage the good players and quickly jettison the known wage stealers.

    A tricky task ahead.

I’m not sure if Armstrong is a future captain but I am certain he has gone backward in the current Celtic team. Essentially an over crowded midfield players list has stifled the progress of most competing in that area. I think Armstrong is a lot better than we’ve seen. Great engine and vision.

I’ll settle for 10 departures and 3 well selected acquisitions between now and end of Jan 2017 window.
