The Craig Whyte narrative. Kris, Leo.

1626

Best news of the day?  Kris Commons wants to be involved tomorrow against Barcelona.  I doubt Kris is anywhere near match fit, so there’s no chance of him starting on Wednesday against Astana, but a 15 minute cameo, when the Astana players’ body clocks are telling them it’s after 2am, would go down a treat.

I’ve always been a bit more ambivalent about Leonel Messi than most.  “He’s not hit the levels of Ronaldinho” is my stock comment, and then there’s the dirty little subject.  (Tax).

But his media comments ahead of tomorrow’s International Champions Cup game, “I have a Celtic jersey at home. The games against Celtic were special and I want to remember them”, proves there’s substance to the man.

I’ve a Celtic jersey at home too, Leo.  A few of us here do.

Former-Rangers former vice-chairman Donald Findlay is to defend Craig Whyte is his forthcoming trial.

Whyte’s urban legend is going to be difficult to shift, but it’s not accurate.  We mocked Rangers fans a few years ago, referring to him as “Our Hero” but he never was.  He was the bag man for a very dirty job.

How he handled the SFA, Uefa, HMRC and, most crucially, the insolvency court, when he managed to secure the appointment of Duff and Phelps as Rangers administrators was crucial in the continuation of football at Ibrox.

It was Duff and Phelps who gave Newco the right to use the name “Rangers”, after which point Whyte could claim he was passing on “Rangers”.  Everyone else mocked this liquidation fantasy at the time.  Until liquidation became a reality, that is.

Whyte left Newco relatively safe in the hands of Charles Green, where it would have thrived, if it hadn’t faced a hostile and damaging takeover bid from its first week of life.

Our auction prize, donated by (the pretty fabulous) Celtic sponsor, Intelligent Car Leasing, closes just after 1pm today.

You can win:

2 seats in the directors’ box

Champagne reception

5 course meal in the Walfrid Suite

Fully expenses bar (pre and post-match)

Half time snacks and refreshments

Car Parking

At the game against Kilmarnock on 24 September.

Money raised from the auction will go towards building a school kitchen in Malawi for Mary’s Meals. It it will be the 5th CQN school kitchen.

Our four existing kitchens feed over 2000 primary aged kids every day. School attendance has increased 30% since kitchens were built, as kids attend for their daily meal. This has an impact on health, education and life chances.

You can follow the auction on eBay here.  Thank you.

I’m off to Aberdour now for the 12th annual CQN Golf Open.  I’ll be the one holding the jackets.

See you then.

For the life of me cannot understand booing any player in a hooped shirt. Positively Hun like. Think it has to do with Supporters now being viewed as Consumers but if anything should give a lie to that notion it’s Big Tams plight.

    —————

It’s an easy out to blame consumers (ie its the club/boards fault). As has been posted previously, lots of players have been booed over the years. Us fans are the same as any other club.

Nah never took it that way, seen that he spelt it Jhonthan just thought they were playing on Sky when they said Jhonny Vegas, looked up at the TV and there it was

  9. From the bits and bobs I’ve read back and obviously not the popular take, but IMHO, I thought we played well yesterday and a few of our kids did really well, particularly young Ajer. Pure quality that yin’s going to be.

I also thought the much maligned Nadir is coming on to a game and will be effective in clugger league matches. However, the inevitable howls of “not Celtic class” will rain down around him for as long as he sets foot on the field. I do love a trier though, and he falls into that category. Others around him would do well to emulate his efforts.

Yep, Çiftçi has looked good recently, well ahead of Dembele and was even more dangerous than LG. Though LG has since moved up a notch by doing what he does, scoring goals :O)

  12. There were quite a few games played yesterday. How many own goals were there? Based on everything I have read, I am left to conclude that there was only one. Yes?

  16. I have a story on the topic of player abuse.

I was in the now defunct San Diego Supporters pub watching a game during the MON era.

A punter unknown to me minced into the pub and promptly took up the standing corner position at the bartop necessitating that four of us move to accommodate his bulk.

I use bulk purposely as he was huge, around 6’3 with a face that had obviously seen its fair share of “I’ll tak ma haun aff yer face” over the years. A think Glaswegian accent, long, thinning grey hair and a long black leather jacket added to his somewhat threatening and brooding demeanour.

Soon as the game starts shouts “run you black b*****d” at the top of his voice every time Didier Agathe gets the ball. After enduring this for 20 minutes or so, my two mates and I couldn’t stand it any longer. I say to him “pal, could you stop with the racist shite please?”

Over he strolls to our seated group in the corner “what’s your f*****g problem then” he says to me. It just so happened good friend of mine from South Africa was visiting that day, and up stands Johan, 6’5 of pure human man mountain Afrikaaner, a product of the Stellenbosch rugby system. This leather clad numpty takes one look at Johan, visibly wilts and legs it out of the bar to leave us in peace. I have always wondered if he really was a Celtic supporter.

That’s the day my Afrikaaner pal stood up for Didier, and became a Tim.

Johan now coaches rugby in New Zealand at a very high level and I send him a Celtic cap to wear once in a while, which he loves, that’s just about the only thing that will fit him.

  22. Strange post but did anyone watch the grand prix coverage on Sky today? If so who was the ex driver that was the race steward (they interviewed him)?

  23. Some things re efe

Other than Celtic players he is the best centre half in Scotland.

Including Celtic players he is the quickest centre half in Scotland.

If he never made mistakes he wouldn’t be playing for us.

He is probably the most capped player in Scotland.

He is adored by his team mates.

    He NEVER EVER hides.

Huns and the press are delighted he was booed yesterday.

Still, some ‘ fans ‘ including Paul67 think it’s ok to ridicule a young man making a living thousands of miles from home.

    A sad sad affair.
