The Craig Whyte narrative. Kris, Leo.

1626

Best news of the day?  Kris Commons wants to be involved tomorrow against Barcelona.  I doubt Kris is anywhere near match fit, so there’s no chance of him starting on Wednesday against Astana, but a 15 minute cameo, when the Astana players’ body clocks are telling them it’s after 2am, would go down a treat.

I’ve always been a bit more ambivalent about Leonel Messi than most.  “He’s not hit the levels of Ronaldinho” is my stock comment, and then there’s the dirty little subject.  (Tax).

But his media comments ahead of tomorrow’s International Champions Cup game, “I have a Celtic jersey at home. The games against Celtic were special and I want to remember them”, proves there’s substance to the man.

I’ve a Celtic jersey at home too, Leo.  A few of us here do.

Former-Rangers former vice-chairman Donald Findlay is to defend Craig Whyte is his forthcoming trial.

Whyte’s urban legend is going to be difficult to shift, but it’s not accurate.  We mocked Rangers fans a few years ago, referring to him as “Our Hero” but he never was.  He was the bag man for a very dirty job.

How he handled the SFA, Uefa, HMRC and, most crucially, the insolvency court, when he managed to secure the appointment of Duff and Phelps as Rangers administrators was crucial in the continuation of football at Ibrox.

It was Duff and Phelps who gave Newco the right to use the name “Rangers”, after which point Whyte could claim he was passing on “Rangers”.  Everyone else mocked this liquidation fantasy at the time.  Until liquidation became a reality, that is.

Whyte left Newco relatively safe in the hands of Charles Green, where it would have thrived, if it hadn’t faced a hostile and damaging takeover bid from its first week of life.

Our auction prize, donated by (the pretty fabulous) Celtic sponsor, Intelligent Car Leasing, closes just after 1pm today.

You can win:

2 seats in the directors’ box

Champagne reception

5 course meal in the Walfrid Suite

Fully expenses bar (pre and post-match)

Half time snacks and refreshments

Car Parking

At the game against Kilmarnock on 24 September.

Money raised from the auction will go towards building a school kitchen in Malawi for Mary’s Meals. It it will be the 5th CQN school kitchen.

Our four existing kitchens feed over 2000 primary aged kids every day. School attendance has increased 30% since kitchens were built, as kids attend for their daily meal. This has an impact on health, education and life chances.

You can follow the auction on eBay here.  Thank you.

I’m off to Aberdour now for the 12th annual CQN Golf Open.  I’ll be the one holding the jackets.

See you then.

I didnt see game at weekend, and I am encouraged by your analysis.was watching the Astana game and gained confidence in Brendan by

-having a game plan and letting it run

-subs that have Iimpact and bolster us

-improved passing, ok 1 or 2 still goin astray but its getttin better.

-I get the impression brendans teams will be full of individuals who know exactkly the job they are told to do.

I don`t think QF is saying WE should accept the same club lie. I think he is saying that the ` reality` we have to accept is that the football world sees them as the same club.

    JJ

PS I think, nevertheless, that QF is wrong to believe that we should do nothing about others` acceptance of that

    ` reality`.

sorry that was meant to be Rangers 0- Peterhead 2.

    kind of ruined my point!

Aye you kinda flashed yer knickers there eh.?

  4. Read Winning Captains piece & it only confirmed in my head, what I already believed, that there is a definite attempt being made to infiltrate this blog by the Hun & to create discord. It only needs one clever determined man to create a multitude of user names, to ingratiate himself with some genuine posters by responding & praising their posts, and he is in like a virus to create mischief. His various usernames can talk to each other & when genuine ghuys call them out, other well meaning Tims are fooled into coming to their aid, with all the usual mantras “Open to All” “Play the Ball, not the man”, “etc.

Tony Donnelly is the one man to call it straight & tell those cnuts to F**k off.

I have no proof that QF is a Hun or another username for some level5 bastard, however I have never seen him post before & in his very first post he tells us that “sadly” we need to accept that the Huns are the “same Club”. Even King was talking about trying to buy the shell of the old Company in order to validate the new Company.

Seriously ghuys we need to be vigilant here, the fact they are making these efforts is proof that they fear us.

read my post! I accept that the world, lead by UEFA, will recognise they are a new club but will be allowed to be seen as a reincarnation of the old one. That is going to happen and I don’t agree with it and I don’t accept it should happen but I accept it has happen because it has happened. read their history on UEFA.com.

incidentally my ex wife had an EIS mate with your name in the 80/90s. same guy? If you are, we’ve met before in the scotia.

my first user name was mikeybhoy or something like that. when Paul switched server I changed to quarter final this time after the two unsuccessful bids in the CL playoffs. I later changed to just QF.

I’ve been around a while but rarely post these days.

A good mate of mine who I won’t call a hun, said to me last year when I asked about the new club thing.. ‘don’t expect me to insult mine and your intelligence, of course we’re a new club, but I’ll always support the blue jerseys playing out of ibrox as if nothing changed. What do you expect, you’d do the same’.

    Now that is reality.

Btw last I looked, uefa had rfc 1872 final game as of May 2012 at Perth.

I know what he’s saying and ain’t buying it mate, if I need to know anything about liquidated companies in Scotland, all I need to do is look up Scottish Law, UEFA can only post what they are told by others, same as LNS could only pass judgement on what was put in front of him and told by the same others, no doubt?

  9. WE know they are a new club and , deep down, they know it ,too. That is important.

    Cheerio for now,

I think they only post top league games. I noticed that a couple of years ago and thought I had proof they we a new club. but then I notice the same for hearts and hibs.

Last time I was in the Scotia, was about 5/6 year ago, and before that? I’v only ever been in it twice I think, not my kinda pub I’m afraid. But two Tony Donnelly’s? That even scares me.

  12. I love to read stories of a big Irish support getting behind Celtic. In my view, Celtic are at their strongest when we have a big support from Ireland, Scotland and rUK. I should also include the rest of the world because of some of the places Hoops fanatics have washed up in or settled down in!

Efe’s own goal was an absolute howler.

    Terrible decision

I knowwwwwwww, he should have ran onto it , done a Wee six keepie up, controlled the ball, done a Pirllo twirl with a 60 yard slide rule pass to the Griff, and he would have put a finish on it, he’s a wrong yin :))

Do you think that if the Huns had won the cup in May,they wouldn’t have been playing in the EL qualifiers?

Btw,QF has been posting on here for longer than me. Stating something that you or anyone else disagrees with disnae make him a hun. People disagree wi me often. So what?

  15. tony

when hearts and hibs were in the championship I checked their results and noticed only top league games are included in a club’s history.

The other tony was a teacher – and I’ve always imaged you as he when I’ve read your posts.

  16. An Tearmann

I’m well thanks , hope you are too.

Yeah it’s looking better. As you say AT, everyone seems to be getting familiar with the role they need to perform.

We will get stronger game by game.

Love to make the CL, but in the great scheme of things, if we need to cut our teeth in the EL this time around, I’ll settle for that.

Let me get this right, your questioning me on a guy I disagree with that RIFC is the same club as RFC?

Your got a problem? Don’t fart about, come right out with it, you and QF could be the best of pals as far as I’m concerned I couldent give a monkeys F… But neither you or anyone else in. Here will tell me what to post, and who to agree with, you on the other hand be the Hun defender that’s up to you. But don’t question me on thems being the same team it’s a non starter.

Efe was not unlucky with OG. He was out of position and didn’t know where he was, where the goal was or where any Barca players were.

    _____________________________________________________________________________________________________

Efe was out of position because he came across to cover for the right back who was ……. out of position; PR was tracking back to cover, Janko is outside the box looking in marking no one because the pass took hi m out. As Efe was tracking back, there was a Barca player making the run with him so that’s what Efe thinks he sees behind him; the Braca player checks the run, but Efe isn’t aware of that; as a consequence, he thinks “if I leave it, it’s a tap in” so he tries to cut it out. Gordon and O’Connell are both in a position to give him a shout but (it appears) neither do so he has to play it. Unfortunately, it slices in. Bad luck, nothe else.

Gordon and O’Connell are also at fault for not shouting. So the real question is, swap O’Connell and Ambrose’s positions and big Eoighan scores the OG – does anyone think the same level of criticism/abuse would be evident on this (and many other) websites? I’ll bet my left ba’ it wouldn’t!

Step up and support the man FFS – I doubt I’ve seen anyone (apart from Griff) give as much for us ove rthe last few years!

No,I’m not. I’m pointing out that he is making a realistic point about how the huns are viewed. And that there are,in fact, precedents for it.

It isn’t to your liking,it isn’t to mine. It breaks so many laws of football and of the land, yet there they are, getting away with it.

You,me,the rest of us can rage against the wrong. But QF has stated the realpolitik of things as they stand.

And calling a fellow Celtic supporter a hun for it is wrong. Not everyone who disagrees with a Celtic fan is a hun.

I’m not a hun,and you’re not either. But we often disagree.

As for the teacher bit,the clue was in EIS.

  26. Tell you one thing i noticed on saturday , the barca players can control and kill a ball stone dead . A skill sadly lacking in our players . Armstrong and mcgregor imo being the worst . But overall a fairly good showing ,against a very good side . Dont know about you ghuys but i think when brown and bitton are in the same team our play is slow , ñot the way BR wants to play . Here,s hopeing for a few quality signings to boost some of the good young talent we have in the squad .
