The curious significant of 1 June

1642

There’s something I’ve never been able to figure out for the last nine years.  When Gordon Strachan was announced as Celtic manager, on 1st June 2014, he apologised to the media for bumping their calls the previous week, as he was due to takeover on that date, and the announcement was embargoed until then.

No idea why the news was embargoed, but it was.  Tomorrow’s the 1st June.  If the same rules hold true now as when Gordon Strachan was appointed, there was little chance of an appointment in late May.

If you’re not going to the CQN 10-in-a-row Charity Golf day on 4 July the Sean’s Trust Charity Dinner is on the same night at the Fullarton Suits, Glasgow.  Sean’s Trust is run by the late St John Doyle’s partner, Linda.  If you’d like to attend let Lennybhoy know, lennybhoycfc@gmail.com

Let me know if you would like to attend the CQN Question and Answer evening at the Manor Club, Wimbledon, on 21 June, with a confirmed line-up of Lisbon Lion, John Hughes, and our own Brogan Rogan and Auldheid, celticquicknews@gmail.com

Visit the CQN Bookstore to get Tommy Gemmell to sign your personal copy of his tome, All the Best.

I saw that post, and saw he failed to reply, he obviously missed it.

Are you alluding to Paul Lambert parting ways ?

Or am I getting the wrong end of the stick ?

I cant run the length of the 5s pitch without a stop inbetween , in fact the quickest i moved was out the door to save Lionsroar kicking me up the arse for my part in letting a three goal lead turn into a three goal deficit lol

  4. big wavy,

Even more importantly, for me, is that he has done nothing so far as a manager to be given the job at Celtic. I would love to have WGS back, to be honest. None too impressed by the thought of McClair either.

He may well have cracking job but with Van Gal (spl) coming in perhaps he has own ideas. Taking a Role as an Assistant is a step up and if it works out, could be a stepping stone. I am sure Brian is secure financially and with the step up and a chance to come back to his routes could be the Carrot.

I do not know if Brian has children, he has been down South 27 years, he is 50 so I would imagine that his children are ages where they support themselves and possibly families. If so another attraction for him and the wife to come home.

Anyway, might be immaterial if he is not appointed, remember nothing done until it is done.

    Keep the Faith!

    Hail Hail!

Like you I wanted to seize the opportunity and go continental but Roy Keane’s record as manager, on closer inspection, merits a little more balance when compared to others in the race that I guess have not had the same scrutiny such as Mr McKay for example.

As a matter of interest who do you fancy for the job ?

  8. Imho i find myself at a loss as to what DD could have said to Roy K that could possibly motivate him to accept our managers role. I can understand guys like Malc Mc an Owen C being interested they are out of work even Jackie McN or any other Scottish Manager(barring one of course) wanting the job. But Roy already has 2 good jobs, plus unless he achieves 3in a row and a couple of last 16s in the CL he will be less successful than the previous 2 holders of the position. I’m sure Roy has considered this, what is the deal clincher is what I’m asking myself?

I’m a wee bit down just now as we approach the first anniversary of my wife’s death on the 22nd June. You’ll never know how uplifted I felt seeing that clip of Kris, Lisa and Oscar’s wonderful family.

    Bucketloads of tears being shed.

Decent game this Germany – Cameroon on BT Sport 1

Strong German outfit not finding this straight forward, looking shaky in central DF, Ozil anonymous central MF, seem to be playing Muller as almost a false 9

I did touch on whether the time was right for a change, but dont for one second confuse your (very valid) points with Lennon being the one who called time on something which was about as comfort zone for a board as there was in British football.

The 5 hour delay between resignation and joint statement is about as concrete proof as you will get in the era of confidentiality agreements, non disclosure agreements, pay off agreements etc.

I could understand an Oscar Garcia getting the job because that would be a change of direction, a genuine fresh start and a break away from what we currently have.

A Roy Keane appointment wont – because the tactics wont be overly different, the motivation you mention can only certainly be worse with the person in question’s character.

Roy Keane was a world class footballer and a leader on the pitch – because he could lead by example.

Roy Keane the manager has his personality as the main characteristic – and he fails on almost every single bar you’d expect from one.

    Peter Lawwell was asked by a Sky reporter what he thought Roy Keane would bring which made him a suitable candidate – and the best a CEO could conjure up was;

Hes played here – irrelevant answer to the question posed

Hes a Celtic supporter – irrelevant answer to the question posed

Hes a Top Man – irrelevant answer to the question posed.

I am still waiting for a relevant answer to that question – on these blogs, my own soul searching trying to make sense of such a left field consideration

Lets hope we are not in his team on Thursday. Mind you the way he tackles it might be safer to be on his team, ha, ha :-)

  19. Captain Beefheart killed Marxist dreams... Keane ate my courage... Formerly JO'N... Just say no to the clique. on

    Evening all.

Not convinced that this is all about getting to England, chiefly because there is no chance of that happening. We hear this guff again and again and again. They don’t need us nor do they want us. Their tv deals get bigger and bigger.

I’m good thanks. Had a wee mental affair the other day with Angelina Jolie until I learned she had 6 children. Couldnae afford their upkeep:o)

  22. Roy Keane……

I think there is possibly a disconnect between Celtic fans who live in Scotland and others who dont live there for whatever reason.

Tin Hat On……..There are more Celtic fans who dont live in Scotland than there are fans who do……….This is a fact.

Celtic fans who live in Scotland don’t realise how big a box office name RK is outside of the best wee worst wee best worst country in the world.

Roy Keane is on the Fitba A List…….A tracksuited Leonardo Di Caprio.

He is our entrance to bigger things……

    BELIEVE.

Cameroon look very impressive, everyone comfortable on the ball.

Kris/Lisa a couple who prove that celtic minded isn’t about genetics but about doing the right thing.

  24. I assume that Celtic have in place some kind of football dept strategy. This includes having scouts, fitness guys, nutritionists etc and an established way of working.

If so, then the new manager will be told he has to work within this. He will get to say yay or nay to signings, suggest his own, set up how the teams at youth and senior level play, request certain things from coaches.

This takes some of the worry out of Keane coming for me. BUT my one big concern is how he will get teams ready for the CL. In fact that is my sole worry about any new candidate. I am not mad on Keane but on reflection, he perhaps has a point to prove. Can he get the players to go the extra yard for him? Has he learned from MON about getting players on side? If he can do this then he will show he has learned.

If it’s Keane then 100% backing from me. Same goes for all candidates with the exception of the italian fascist.

I’d still rather have Henke. Maybe it just isnt time yet. But it will happen.
