The future is Scott Bain’s, if he can grasp it

842

It’s just another story of a player sitting in the stands at Dundee before moving to the bench at Hibs and then a four year contract at Celtic.  All in less than four months.  Scott Bain is 26 years old and were it not for a personal issue with Neil McCann would still be at Dens Park.

Instead, he will see out his 20s as a Celtic goalkeeper.  He is 11 years younger than Dorus de Vries (37) and 9 younger than Craig Gordon (35).  He caught Brendan Rodgers eye and is now a development project for the manager.  The future is his, if he can grasp it.

Congratulations on your new contract, Scott.

  1. POGMATHONYAHUN AKA LAIRD OF THE SMILES ???‍♂️??? on 12TH MAY 2018 12:36 PM

I had a great night last night at the CSA dinner in the company of many fine CQN’rs. Thanks to CRC for inviting me and Stephen for getting the tickets.

The only thing that spoiled my night was getting ripped off by the black Hack that I caught whose driver started the meter at £5.20.

I have been completely anti-Uber as regards taxis but may now rethink my stance.

For future reference his reg No. was GR 6749. I told the robbing hun bassa what I thought of him – he couldn’t have cared less.

    PALOTS

With regards to the £5.20 on the black hack meter , this is the tariff set by Glasgow city council for premium times only eg. After 12.30am Saturday and Sunday , this is nothing to do with the driver. I would suggest it is highly likely that this would be an uber price surge time and a journey with them would be more costly if the driver even knows where he is going which is unlikely.

  4. *** LAST MAN STANDING 10 – THE FINAL!!***

Over the next 27 or so hours, we will have a winner (or winners) of LMS10. And for the first time we’ve introduced a final day play-off shoot-out kinda thing.

A Magnificent Seven are still standing so congratulations to (in no particular order) The Exiled Tim, Praecepta, Gerryfaethegrig, Zico Maltese Bhoy, Rubi, Stevie67 and Bobby Evans Superstar.

And her’s what the finalists had to do –

Step 1 – Ignore all of their earlier picks; every team is now available for selection.

Step 2 – Look at all fixtures below and decide which team they thought would win each game, or whether the game will end in a draw.

Step 3 – Next, put those 10 decisions in order, i.e. which selection are they most confident in, which one’s next likely, right through to the game that they are least sure of.

Step 4 – Send in their list showing their 10 predictions in order of preference.

Once the games have been played we will then look at everyone’s selections and see which person progressed furthest down their own list. So, for example, if someone’s first 4 selections all win and then their 5th one is incorrect then their score is ‘4’ – so it wouldn’t matter if their remaining 5 selections were all correct; as soon as you have a wrong selection your game’s a bogey! We will then have a winner or joint winners and the prize money will be paid or shared accordingly

I’ll post in a minute where the selections have gone….

But if, for a wee bit of fun, anyone fancies having a go at this (no monetary prize but just the bragging rights if you ‘win’) then please send me an email directly to jobobaldie@yahoo.co.uk – OBVIOUSLY YOU’D HAVE TO SEND THIS BEFORE 3.00 TODAY ;-)

So, after a successful 9 weeks we arrive at the Play Off Final for LMS10. I am able to show below what the 7 predictions for each game are and who is in the minority for each game. Of course, none of the participants know what order everyone has placed their selections. For that you will have to wait until the results are double checked, verified and announced.

The very best of luck to you all and thanks again to everyone on here and beyond for all of your support.

Southampton v Manchester City – 6 FOR MANCHESTER CITY, 1 FOR THE DRAW (Rubi)

    Tottenham v Leicester – 7 FOR TOTTENHAM

  11. I’ll be shocked if Brendan doesn’t give Armstrong a new deal. He’s his type of player and our best midfield imo is Brown, Rogic, Armstrong and Ntcham. Callum as utility when 1 of these 4 not available.

  12. Ok. The Magnificent 7 Breakfast Club have been asked to convene a wee bit earlier tomorrow. Between 10 and 10:15 so we can be serviced properly. The earlier we get in the better for Fredo.

  16. Afternoon all

I have been mulling over this post since yesterday morning when I read over a number of really good posts on the previous thread from, amongst others, Mahe the Madman and SFTB although other earlier debates on whether we should or should not discuss our Ibrox based rivals as much as is the case or indeed at all have preyed on my mind too.

On the Huns- sorry I am fed up with all this Sevco/Zombies/’Rangers’/ Rangers terminology and have decided to stick with what I have called them since I was 7- I do not think this blog is anything like as bad for discussing them as some other sittes/blogs/Facebook pages where it can seem as though Celtic is defined only in relation to them. We cannot ignore them whatever else.

It is good to beat them anytime and in any manner and obviously it is good to laugh at them but since the 3-2 game I think the jokes and memes and all the rest have been too much. And whilst it is good that we are financially far stronger than they are it can get a bit dull reading about it all the time. The Huns #2 may go bust eventually but unlike 2012 #3 won’t start at the bottom- the SPFL will ensure that. We are stuck with them.

Anyway I have kind of gone off my point and written too much about them.

I was interested in the points concerning Celtic being a ‘Trinity’ of Hierarchy/Team/Supporters. Followers of other sides may not use that word but in truth I do not think that makes us unique- every football team run as a business is the same.

SFTB got it pretty much spot on when he described the hierarchy – the Board- as a necessary evil. The current lot seem a bit faceless but also fiscally competent which was more than can be said for what we often had prior to March 1994. Bob Kelly and Desmond White were big personalities for sure and both men may or may not have reacted differently- in public- to how the current board has to what has happened over the last 7 years but neither was universally loved with, in my opinion, White being overall one of the more disastrously misguided figures in our history. Overall football club boards are a result of the way professional football has evolved in Britain and beyond so you are probably as well having a dull, competent one than the kind of bombastic, reckless oafs who have run other ones and in one obvious example still run the team currently sitting in 3rd place in our league.

Do the team and support let us or specifically me down? In the case of the team, ‘aye, you’re damn right it has.’ From Feyenoord in May 1970 to Black Sunday my years of following Celtic the team there has been an occasional – and in the years 1989 to 1995 a continual -disappointment. Disappointments and let downs are though a part of supporting Celtic or any other sporting team. I do think Feyenoord and the heartbreaking finale to our home match with Partizan Belgrade had a huge impact on me personally and I was numb for weeks after Black Sunday- but the one thing that those debacles did not do was make me stop supporting Celtic.

The support is probably the thing which has never let me down. Sure individuals and songs have fair ripped my knitting but mostly it is great being part of the support. Not because of the presumed ancestry or religious beliefs of the majority but simply because the supporters are mostly good people to be amongst. We discuss to the point of heated argument the merits of players past and present, some stand or sit stoically through calamity whilst others come close to foaming at the mouth if a shy gets awarded wrongly to the other team even if we are 5 up, some sing ‘the rebs’ whilst two seats along someone else wishes those same songs were dropped. But I can count on the fingers of one hand the number of times I have felt unsafe by the way those around me were behaving. That ease I feel – together with the excellence of many of our teams is why I support Celtic. Boards, inept managers, crummy players and teams which flop are no more than an occupational hazard.

However I wish I could be more principled in my support for Celtic – I really wish I could agonise more about renewing my season ticket or going to the Scottish Cup games. I know that what has happened over the last few years shames Scotland, trust me I really get it and wish that it was all not so. But I am 56, single, play golf badly, cannot play a musical instrument or compose a coherent message on a blog. Celtic is a big part of my social life and the only thing that would stop me going given my continued good health and financial solvency would be something Celtic plc did or was seen to have done. I know what my line is and I hope to never cross it.

    Great post!

I had a couple of jibes at supporters for being too keen on playing the Ibrox mob, but I have come to recognise that , for many of them, it was just about continuing to support Celtic.

I will still cheer when (and if, in my lifetime) full justice is finally served on the cheats but I have little expectation that there is any appetite within the football authorities to step in.

  18. Dallas Dallas where the heck is Dallas on

Park Road, I was just on the Pollok site there.

They beat Salcoats Victoria 11 nil in a West of Scotland away cup tie . An incredible score line.

I have seen us score 8 or 9 goals in a over the last 30 odd years . It would be marvellous if we got into double figures in a game especially if it was against the huns or those without the bus fare at Tynecastle.

The English national league play off final has been quite eventful. Good Celtic man, Micky Mellon’s Tranmere are drawing 1 each with Borehamwood .

Tranmere had a player rightly sent off within the first minute, made a substitution then went 1 up in the 6 minute . During the celebrations , A Tranmere player was hit by a bottle chucked at him , their second sub had to come on. Tranmere then had to use ther third sub when one of their players was injured during first half injury time. The ref added another 3 minutes to injury time , during which Borehamwood equalised.

  19. Commiseratons to Cove Rangers who lost out by 3:2in Fife today.

My Father-in-law played for them when they were a top amateur side in the 50’s. They joined the Highland League in 1986, where they won their first title in 2001 and their 6th title this year.

With a new stadium, they will, along with EK and Spartans be challenging the Cowdenbeaths of this world over the next few years

  20. GreeninbingleyinOslo on

    Regarding the ‘hun’ debate:

I too know several decent men and women who followed Rangers and who now support the support act.

I have never been able to square the circle of how otherwise sound, generous and decent people can align themselves with an ethos of bullying entitlement, sectarianism and apartheid, but maybe that’s a lack of something in me, more than a comment on them.

But when some of their support, some years ago, unilaterally decided to pump out the arrant nonsense that the word ‘hun’ is a sectarian term, because they don’t like it, I decided to call them huns at every available opportunity, and still do.

The term to me has nothing at all to do with religion, and everything to do with a mindset of entitlement, arrogance, and bullying.

Huns used to proudly call THEMSELVES huns before their world exploded and, like downed bullies everywhere, they adopted the mantle of victims.

I’m tired of huns setting the agenda, irrespective of reason or truth, and expecting everyone else to jump when they bark.

So if they want to stop being called huns, they should stop behaving like huns.

An apology for cheating people out of more than £150 million, and the faint stirrings of some sense of humility, would be a start.
