The future is Scott Bain’s, if he can grasp it

842

It’s just another story of a player sitting in the stands at Dundee before moving to the bench at Hibs and then a four year contract at Celtic.  All in less than four months.  Scott Bain is 26 years old and were it not for a personal issue with Neil McCann would still be at Dens Park.

Instead, he will see out his 20s as a Celtic goalkeeper.  He is 11 years younger than Dorus de Vries (37) and 9 younger than Craig Gordon (35).  He caught Brendan Rodgers eye and is now a development project for the manager.  The future is his, if he can grasp it.

Congratulations on your new contract, Scott.

Fantastic night at the CSA do tonight. Not often I will get to shake hands with Scott Brown, Peter Lawell, John Clark( beautiful Lisbon Lion and humble gentleman) and Archbishop Mario. He gave me a blessing. I told him that Polska will win the World Cup. Saint John Paul2 will be the Polish guide. He liked my optimism.

Praying that Ross County stay up for Marcus’ sake. Don’t think Ketts is good enough manager.

  6. Interesting game in prospect tomorrow.

Aberdeen have to assume Sevco will get something from Easter Road so should play accordingly ie a much more attacking game than Killie did on Wednesday. Could lead to a Goalfest before the Champions Party.

Great news! We can now sign players we can’t afford too by non-payment of taxes due!

Ok, it may all end up in us being liquidated, but that, of course, won’t mean the end of the club, nor its glorious history.

Plus, we get to keep all honours won by the liquidated club that continues to live, with 1888 intact on all websites and crests.

And if this annoys anyone else, we can always rely on hearts ruling minds to keep the cash a-rollin’ in.

    What’s not to like?

  11. Goooooooood Morning CQN – 7 in a row Champions

Gary67, wee Paddy not getting a regular game, will not be helping, particularly when he is our most creative wide player

A bit concerned also with the apparent stand off with Tom Rogic, another hugely creative player for us

Let’s trust in Brendan, to get things sorted

Now, any other negative stories in the media for Celtic ???????, we have this for you Mr Media ???????

And your favourite new team are still sinking

  12. Good morning CQN…

I had a wonderful night at the CSA Rally. Started off with meeting Brendan and Chris at the front door. Met some great CQNers and Lurkers I hadn’t seen for ages.

Special thanks to Stephen Black for organising the Tables, that’s seven in a row for me as well Stephen.

Special special thanks to Mrs. Onemalloy for the lift home.

    Keep the Faith!

    Hail Hail!

  13. Reminder of a made up tale in 2010 about why Rangers supporters are called Huns.

1912. Harland and Wolf a Belfast shipyard , where Wolf was a German partner, set up another yard in Govan. They brought with them Orangemen and German workers/foremen.

1914 -18 In the book Tommy’s war the author tells of collecting kids during WWI from a KINDERGARTEN in Kinning Park! Evidence of German families residing in the Govan precincts?

During WWI propaganda wall posters appeared warning the populace of the dangers of der HUN. (Fierce looking sojers with pointy helmets that could poke yer eye out.)

After the war and because of the foregoing and the inability of Catholics to get a job in an Orange environment, the Tims of that time referred to them as Huns.

As a result of the proximity of Ibrox to the yard may workers of the Orange persuasion followed Rangers who until 1912 had no sectarian colouring.

    And there you have it.

I said reminder because I posted the tale in 2010 but a couple of years later it was mentioned as a fact on CQN. On asking the poster where he learned the story he said it came up in a pub discussion as a fact!

This is how propaganda works. Tell a tale, don’t say it’s a tale (I did) and make it plausible and it turns into a social media fact.

It is why when dealing with more serious issues it’s important to double check that the tale or narrative stands up.

I had thought of going to The Mitchell/Stirling? Library to go through news paper cuttings from 1912 to 1920, but never found the time because of checking out another bloody story that tested resolution. :)

  14. Thank God we had rules in place, with men big enough to enforce them, to protect our beautiful Scoddish game from devastating abuses like these.

    Michael Andrews v Buckie Thistle

The on loan Falkirk goalkeeper’s inclusion seen his East Stirlingshire side eliminated from the Scottish Cup even though he kept in a clean sheet in the 1-0 win over Buckie Thistle. This was because to the documents surrounding his loan extension failing to reach Scottish FA Headquarters at Hampden.

All money made from the win had to be handed back, in addition to seeing their opponents enter the fifth round against Brechin.

    Keith McLeod v Culter

He was in his testimonial year at Spartens (sic) but Keith McLeod should have missed this game out due to an administration error as the commencement dates on the registration form were not filled out. This seen the defeated Culter play Partick Thistle in the third round of the Scottish Cup.

To heap on that misery, their second round winnings of £4,000 was suspended for 12 months as well.

    *****

    Commencement dates not filled out!

  15. DD, the Archbishop may also have noticed you were a wee bit tipsy and taken pity:-)

A good night last night, and on to one night in Lisbon!!!!!

  16. My friends in Celtic.

A wee bit unsure of the current taxation regulations applicable to Scott Brown,s testimonial.

I believe the ” loophole” was amended to prevent a committee giving the money as a gift and thus avoiding tax.

Will the additional Scottish tax kick in ?

No matter how deserving the player and the good causes it will benifit ;Many of us are sceptical of giving the highest earners a mega lump sum, especially if Hector or his Scottish equivalent Hamish is about to grab a large chunk of it.

Yes I’m aware of funds going to Liam Miller’s family at al and I applaud Nial Quinn’s generous distribution of the money, but I feel testimonial’s should be for less advantaged players, not players whose futures are already assured.

I’m not so sure I’m in a minority on this one.

HH to all and a mega HH & woof woof to the Celtic Foundation.

Was it Sandy Bryson, who gave an honest assessment of those administrate errors ?

Sandy here. Unfortunately you omitted the letters ‘i’ and ‘v’ from your post, and a question mark, leaving it ineligible for a reply. I do like a con, but not emoti ones.

With Lewandowski the world’s deadliest striker, anything is possible for Polska. Seeing Bertie Auld and John Clark in such good health and form was great. Thanks to BRTH for a lift home to Dalmuir, a gentleman.

This is how it feels to be Celtic. Brendan Rodgers is so eloquent. Here for 10 in a row.

  21. Dallas Dallas where the heck is Dallas on

Auldheid at 9.41, thank you for that explaation .

I’ve always taken what my dad told me why the huns were called huns , as believable but the details you provided puts another layer on the tale of the German connection to them being called Hun.

Many thanks again for your incredible contribution along with the other Resolution 12 guys to getting the facts out there of all the SFA’s and now defunct club’s playing fast and loose with football’s financial reguations .

  22. Auldheid – My understanding of the reason for the nicknames “The Huns” was that it came from a newspaper article c1917 during WW1 because of a Cup final at Hampden where in the uncovered Celtic end with pouring rain the jouralist thought that “even the Hun would have treated them better”.

This article was published on a Celtic blog a few years ago but I can’t remember which one.

  23. Matt Stewart on

Whatever the source of the term ‘hun’, I’m sure that it was meant as an insult and not just as a ‘nickname’.

However, not all of those tarred with epithet regarded it as a particularly demeaning term.

For instance…Robin McKie writing in the Observer/Guardian in 2003 as Celtic reached Seville.

He may of course be in the minority :)

  25. If he wants to stay, its a no brainer to increase Rogic wages, and give him a new contract.Same with Armstrong,Ajer. We could not go into the present market and buy these players.Ajer will be the next VVD.Rogic ,still young, has it in him to reach Lubo status, especially if he keeps on Hunskelping.

Good luck to Paddy. When he was playing he was a joy to watch.Real shame about his injuries this season.

Impressed again with Ralston last night.Take him away from the Diddies he was playing alongside last night, and wecould have another cracker here.

  28. I clicked the link to Beatbhoy’s post above and read 2 pages of comments by CQNers from 2013. Many are still posting now. The same issues were to the fore then as now.

But, whilst Sevco and the SFA are still in continuity myth mode, Celtic are in a better place. Our team on the park is light years ahead of thems as they lurch from one crisis to another and their career criminal chairman giving us sidesplitting comedy on a daily basis.

My dad will be cracking jokes with the angels as he looks at the chasm which now separates us from our erstwhile city rivals. I appreciate that Celtic maybe should have been more robust in publicly challenging the cheating and their failure to do so has upset many of us, but our recent trophy haul and their pathetic attempts to challenge us, on and off the park, is a source of great joy. Who would ever have envisaged the ridicule they have brought on themselves?

We always knew abut the MIBs, we knew the media always took their side; but what’s happening now is beyond parody and I’m LOVING it. WATP indeed. Rock on, Sammy.
