The future is Scott Bain’s, if he can grasp it

842

It’s just another story of a player sitting in the stands at Dundee before moving to the bench at Hibs and then a four year contract at Celtic.  All in less than four months.  Scott Bain is 26 years old and were it not for a personal issue with Neil McCann would still be at Dens Park.

Instead, he will see out his 20s as a Celtic goalkeeper.  He is 11 years younger than Dorus de Vries (37) and 9 younger than Craig Gordon (35).  He caught Brendan Rodgers eye and is now a development project for the manager.  The future is his, if he can grasp it.

Congratulations on your new contract, Scott.

  1. DD/VFR…

I was going to go to Coias but at the number 7.

Catch you at the corner with programmes signed by Tom Boyd and hopefully Danny mc Grain.

    Enjoy the party.HH

  2. Roberts and Musonda may be two creative players but the evidence of them in a Celtic shirt this season did not suggest so.

He was a poor version of the player who shone the previous season.

Through injury and the form of others Paddy has been a waste of money this season.

Musonda we may not have seen much of but the coaches have had time with him in training and are not convinced.

Cant really miss what we never had.

Would hope our strategy has been properly mapped out for next season as late and short term solutions rarely work.

  7. I had a great night last night at the CSA dinner in the company of many fine CQN’rs. Thanks to CRC for inviting me and Stephen for getting the tickets.

The only thing that spoiled my night was getting ripped off by the black Hack that I caught whose driver started the meter at £5.20.

I have been completely anti-Uber as regards taxis but may now rethink my stance.

For future reference his reg No. was GR 6749. I told the robbing hun bassa what I thought of him – he couldn’t have cared less.

The SFA have a pair of giant blue bollocks.

Keep seeing return to their rightful place headlines since a youth coach with a distinctly average record.

    What is their rightful place?

A decaying corpse on a heap of dung being adored by the majority of Scotland if it can put Timmy in it’s place.

Have they ever won anything fairly?

  10. Not enough playing time to suggest Paddy Roberts talent has diminished since his brilliant last season, besides I thought class was permanent.

Man City and Celtic will start at the price they couldn’t agree on last year and work from there by which time the season tickets will have been sold or not.

  15. Lots of talk about players out and in. My take on it is simple;

Roberts has not kicked a ball all season, injuries or not, charly M, big rep little impact, wont be missed, Amstrong has fell way short this season, he had a good 6 months in a celtic top, no loss, Eric S, Jozo, gamboa, Benyu, DDV, Bitton, Allan, Cefci, no loss

Dembele will be a loss in the big games, Rogic, if he goes, will be a loss for the 4 or so months he is available each season and Boyata, by number of games played suggests he will be a loss.

    If all of the above go we will need to purchase a rightback, centreback, attacking mid and centre forward to add to a squad of;

    Gk Gordon, bain, hazard

    Rb Lustig, Ralston

    Lb KT, hayes

    Cb Compper, hendry, ajer

    Cm Brown, ncham, Mcgregor, kiassi

    Wingers Forrest, sinclair, Morgan, johnson

    Cf leigh G, atcheson

we should be getting ajer, forrest and Mcgregor signed up to 4/ 5 Year deals asap

I think De Vries, Gamboa, Sviatchenko, Simunovic, Compper and Armstrong will definitely go, as will Ciftci and Allan. Roberts and Musonda will go back to their parent club.

Bain has signed, Morgan, Christie and Ralston will return from loan and be part of squad up to end of August when a decision will be made on whether they stay, go out on loan (Ralston and Morgan) or sold (Christie). Kouassi and Johnston may also go out on loan for game time and experience.

Boyata will go if he won’t sign a new contract but that’ll be after the WC and towards the end of the window. Dembele will go if someone meets our valuation and it’s a team he wants to go to (Marseille seems the most likely). However, It wouldn’t surprise me if Moussa signs contract extension and stays another season, especially if we are in CL group stages again.

Rogic, IMO, will stay. Possibly a one year extension like Armstrong last summer.

Bain signed, Edouard edging closer to signing, I still think we’ll sign McGinn. In addition we need a Right Back, Centre Half (wouldn’t be surprised if it’s Caulker) and a wide attacking playmaker.

  21. On why we need to keep our enemies closer:

If by tomorrow evening TRFC lie (Freudian?) second top of SPFL with a UEFA place assured (but I think the UEFA jury is still out on that one) then why would they need a warchest?

The argument to Steven Gerrard might be

” We don’t need to increase the wage budget by much, just use it better to save the points dropped amongst those we lost them to. Celtic have shown they are more than capable of dropping points to the rest too so it might just boil down to games v Celtic and the SFA are on our side. You could make a real name for yourself unless Celtic realise there is a challenge and further strengthen, but they have a “develop rather than buy” policy and fear debt, whereas we welcome it, so the odds on upsetting their House of Cards are favourable.

That is how I would sell the job to SG and I’m honest!

  24. PIG, I’ll probably keep get scarf in the bag for breakfast, keep it out of my grub, not sure if VFR has that option with his beard.

Look forward to catching up with a few of you tomorrow, and possibly tonight at the Centenary Double 30th anniversary bash.

Still in Ayr at the moment, train to Glasgow in half hour if it turns up, didn’t yesterday at paisley and ended up in a taxi to Ayr.

  25. Appologies POG, predictive txt issue at the start if that, no reflection on tomorrows breakfast if anyone is worried.

  26. Patrick Roberts wont be here next season, the comfort zone comment was telling. Based on last season it will be a loss, based on this season no loss at all.

Regards players leaving i am not fussed to be honest, i expect as many as 10 could go overall. Rogic would be the one to keep if possible but only on a 3 year deal or longer, the Armstrong deal last summer was a nonsense. The resounding successes this season have been the two French boys, where possible we should be looking to that market because those lads are tailor made for what we need in this Country. Man City should yield at least one player this summer too. Previously we have shown interest in Adarabioyo, a young English centre back who is on the fringes there and there is another young Spanish lad, Brahim Diaz, an attacking midfielder, who could be an option.

  27. I like Patrick Roberts as a player and as a person, he’s never flanneled us, he understands football and he gets Celtic. I would love to see him sign for us but if he decides his career is in England then I wish him the very best and thank him for getting my auld arse off the seat on many occasions.

    Keep shining Paddy Bhoy..
