The gift of focus for Ajax

695

The last minute goal fell Celtic’s way at the weekend but Wednesday’s opponents, Ajax, were on the receiving end of the sucker punch, losing to a last minute goal at home to Vitesse, just a week after a goalless draw at home to joint bottom Waalwijk.  The Dutch champion’s only win in their last five games was at home to lower league opposition six days ago.

So what does this mean for Celtic?  It means Ajax have found various ways not to approach the Celtic game.  The last thing teams need ahead of a crucial game is an easy or flattering result, far better to show up your mistakes.

If Celtic take the lead, we might find Ajax confidence sinks rapidly, but they will approach the game full of focus, dangerous and with a point to prove.

It’s Christmas time…….

The Celtic FC Foundation (new name for Celtic Charity) Christmas Appeal has been launched.  The 125 Anniversary activities have considerably reenergised the Celtic Movement in getting back to where is all started – looking after those in need.

The Christmas Appeal aims to provide 150 local families who would otherwise go without, a Christmas meal, with gifts for younger kids.

The Celtic support will be helping people through Glasgow East Women’s Aid, Spirit Aid, the Glasgow Simon Community, Loaves and Fishes, The Wayside Club, Glasgow City Mission and Lodging House Mission.

Details of how to help online, and in person, are available here.

Offensive Behaviour Act

Scottish Parliament Justice Committee convenor, Christine Grahame, has agreed to discuss an Early Review of the Act on the agenda for tomorrow’s Justice Committee meeting.  Three members of the Committee are already committed to a Review, details on how to contact others on the committee – it has to be today, they meet tomorrow – are available here, on the Trust website.

Even with China’s appalling record on human rights making people watch Sevco would surely be a step too far?

    ..,,,.,,.,,.,

Is PL in China tapping into our Irish/Chinese market?

Malcolm Murray reckons the Great Wall of China was built by Scots so there must be millions of Spivco fans out there.

He just needs Mike Ashley to spend sometime out there. Newcastle fans agree.

  2. AFC Ajax’s 2-1 defeat at Celtic FC on matchday three has led to some serious questions being asked at the Amsterdam ArenA.

Ajax are bottom of UEFA Champions League Group H and could be all but out of contention should they lose to Neil Lennon’s side on home soil on Wednesday. However, should they win themselves and FC Barcelona defeat AC Milan, the situation would suddenly look a great deal rosier for the Eredivisie title holders. Maybe, just maybe, ‘Overwinteren in Champions League’ – translated as ‘UEFA Champions League football after winter’ – is not yet out of the question after all.

Christian Poulsen is Ajax’s odd one out

The Dutch press, though, made a pertinent point after that loss in Glasgow. Though it is Celtic who are nicknamed the Bhoys, it is a moniker that could equally apply to Ajax. Indeed Frank de Boer’s starting lineup included two 19-year-olds (Viktor Fischer and Lucas Andersen) and, in total, ten of the starting XI were aged 24 or under. Only Christian Poulsen, 33, broke the mould.

Ajax are suffering a problem common to Dutch sides, who are often forced to cash in on their most talented players before they have had the chance to mature fully at their home clubs. Not since PSV Eindhoven in 2006/07 have an Eredivisie side been involved in the UEFA Champions League knockout phase.

De Boer described qualifying from the group stage as “possible with this squad”, but that was before the departure of Christian Eriksen for Tottenham Hotspur FC. It is a void that De Boer is yet to fill. However, there can be little doubt that playing in Europe’s premier club competition is teaching these young players some invaluable lessons … and fast.

For De Boer there was plenty of pride to be found from that defeat by Celtic: “If we play like that again in two weeks, then we will beat them in the Amsterdam ArenA. I really believe in that.” Transmitting that faith to the players could just be the key to victory on Wednesday and – who knows? – maybe even ‘Overwinteren in Champions League’.

Reply from Jenny Marra MSP to email about the bill:

    Dear Mr ACGR,

Thank you for your recent email regarding the Offensive Behaviour at Football: Threatening Communications (Scotland) Act 2012.

I share your concerns about the operation and implementation of this Act and I, along with my Scottish Labour colleagues, have already called for an early review of the act. Unfortunately this call was blocked by the SNP members of the Justice Committee and, without their support, we were unable to take forward an early review.

I have passed your concerns on to my colleagues on the Justice Committee and they will again raise the issue with the convenor of the Committee and attempt to instigate an early review of the Act.

I believe it has so far proven difficult for fans to come together and speak with one voice on this matter. It is only through fans putting their team allegiances aside that an effective case can be made for action. I support an early review and hope that fans can join together with me to put real pressure on the SNP Government to act.

Thank you for contacting me and please be assured that I share your concerns about the impact that this Act is having on the relationship between police and football fans and will continue to push for an early review.

    Kind regards,

    Jenny Marra MSP

  7. All of this debate re the goalie with concussion at the weekend. I’m in the camp of those who say the decision has to be with the doctor. Seemingly the keeper couldn’t remember what had happened to him, so no way should he have been allowed to make the decision.

As an aside, if a jockey is concussed, he’s stood down for 7 days.

  8. Murray, I had some sympathy for him with that Vidio , but listening to him this morning, he is just a pish stained bigoted alky, and is a fit and proper person to hold a place on the board of criminals.

    Husband Store

A store that sells new husbands has opened in New York City , where a woman may go to choose a husband. Among the instructions at the entrance is a description of how the store operates:

You may visit this store ONLY ONCE! There are six floors and the value of the products increase as the shopper ascends the flights. The shopper may choose any item from a particular floor, or may choose to go up to the next floor, but you cannot go back down except to exit the building!

So, a woman goes to the Husband Store to find a husband. On the first floor the sign on the door reads:

Floor 1 – These men Have Jobs

She is intrigued, but continues to the second floor, where the sign reads:

Floor 2 – These men Have Jobs and Love Kids.

‘That’s nice,’ she thinks, ‘but I want more.’

So she continues upward. The third floor sign reads:

Floor 3 – These men Have Jobs, Love Kids, and are Extremely Good Looking.

‘Wow,’ she thinks, but feels compelled to keep going.

She goes to the fourth floor and the sign reads:

Floor 4 – These men Have Jobs, Love Kids, are Drop-dead Good Looking and Help With Housework.

‘Oh, mercy me!’ she exclaims, ‘I can hardly stand it!’

Still, she goes to the fifth floor and the sign reads:

Floor 5 – These men Have Jobs, Love Kids, are Drop-dead Gorgeous, Help with Housework, and Have a Strong Romantic Streak.

She is so tempted to stay, but she goes to the sixth floor, where the sign reads:

Floor 6 – You are visitor 31,456,012 to this floor. There are no men on this floor. This floor exists solely as proof that women are impossible to please.

Thank you for shopping at the Husband Store.

    PLEASE NOTE:

To avoid gender bias charges, the store’s owner opened a New Wives store just across the street.

The First floor has wives that love sex.

The Second floor has wives that love sex and have money and like beer

The third, fourth, fifth and sixth floors have never been visited.
