The land of registration anarchy

796

So how about this scenario, Celtic Youths are trailing in their league with 10 games to go when they register three new players, but someone’s ‘at it’.  The players are all over-age but the date of birth on their registration forms have been incorrectly completed, so the players are registered and become eligible to play the remaining games.  Celtic Youths win their remaining games and win the league.

At the end of the season the deception is uncovered.  The people responsible for filling the forms out incorrectly are criticised but one is president of the Scottish Football Association, who give evidence to an inquiry that as the Association registered the players, the results must stand.

Time to “draw a line under it” is the line from the SFA chief executive, hoping with all his might that no one mentions the Scottish Youth Cup games the players also played in, which would invoke a parallel punishment to the one recently imposed on Spartans Youths for exactly the same offence in the same competition.  The chief exec also dismisses attempts to call those criticised by the inquiry to account as scapegoating.

Ridiculous?  Of course, but this is what we’ve just experienced, with another club, of course.

Challenging the verdict, if possible, is a worthwhile endeavour but it will only treat one symptom of the many issues facing Scottish Premier League clubs, who could be forgiven for losing the will to compete within the rules.  Fans of several SPL clubs now believe their best interests are served by playing in an environment beyond Scotland – for a whole range of reasons.

We have to work with fans of other clubs to make the case for the SPL, as a unit, to leave Scottish football (I see cross-club initiatives are already underway).

On a completely unrelated question, if you had £21m in the bank late last year, and you were burning cash at £1m per month, which year would you run out of money?

    Good Evening.

    Miki67

    If you are reading this– should you come across this in the wee small hours and are tempted to post just like you did last night—- then here is something that I hope will bring you cheer and a smile of contentment.

    I have long held the view that this is one of the best and most powerful pieces of poetry recitation and it should be listened to again and again.

    And so my friend— do not go gentle into that good night:

    Oh and if you have longer to listen then there is of course the vocal masterpiece that is to be found here:

    Beyond that thoughts, prayers and God’s blessings upon you my friend.

    I hope that our club gets the other S.P.L. clubs to rally round and challenge the nonsense of the Lord Nimmo judgement on the following grounds –

    – That they gained no ‘football’ benefits from the non- disclosure of the dual contracts ;

    – The continued participation of Campbell Ogilvie in S.F.A. affairs after the judge’s condemnation of the activities of the Ranger’s Board of Directors,

    of which he was a prominent member;

    – The breaches of S.P.L./S.F.A. rules and regulations;

    – The need to change the ludicrous S.F.A. regulations on registration:

    – The breach of U.E.F.A’s regulations in European matches.

    I think that this provides an adequate agenda which should gain the interest and support of other clubs. I would imagine the help of an eagle-eyed lawyer of the style of the late Paul McBride woud be vey helpful.

    >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

    i am confident the Celtic Board will be very carefully reviewing all this with our lawyers (including greengo’s ongoing, unchallenged, rants)………. I’m beginning to ask myself why we need to remain silent, now that the collusion / agenda is becoming so obvious….. We await developments with interest…….it really is getting silly now …….. Celtic may be awaiting the big BDO / UTT (asset / tax) decisions……

    My opinion……we should ‘go for the jugular’ at the strategically ‘right time’ ……they will not keep us timmies down …..we destroyed their favoured team, and we will destroy any attempt to carry on any ‘cheating’ moving forward…..

  4. Voguepunter etc,

    Don’t know if youse have noticed, but the Beeb is playing its ignoble part in this saga, too. Their recent “reports” have included a spokesman from Stonewall, the gay lobby group, who could fairly enough comment on their own issues but have nothing to do with The Church. The same reports have referred to “a crisis engulfing the Church in Scotland”: a crisis there certainly is, but “engulfing is gross exaggeration. Of course, as Pogmathyonhun says, the worst feature is that the faithfull have been let down by those whom they trusted – but as one of the Edinburgh church-goers remarked, we believe in God & not in bishops.

    PS apologies to not-Catholic readers for hanging out dirty washing which may not be relevant to them.

  6. Like the look of Setanta Scores, Sligo Rovers (Bro. Walfrid territory leading 5 nil. Shamrock Rovers (who I don’t particularly like) leading Linfield (who I detest) 4-1 and finally Cork City (Who I Love, but not as much as I love Celtic) leading 2 nil and 3 nil on agregate.

  7. So this ‘precedence’ in registration of players……

    Could sion take UEFA to the court of arbitration signalling this earth shattering precedence?

    At least the guards will have no bother getting the linfield supporters out of Tallaght tonight.

    I was at the game in Inchicore a few seasons ago against them, took the guards ages to get them all on to their buses, kept us in the ground for over an hour.

  15. Oldtim67

    We’ll get someone to give us a lift. I’ll phone him this week and get something organised.

  26. TET They are a really nasty shower, was at a Cork/Linfield game many many moons ago in Dublin and they attacked our buses. There were rocks raining through the windows, lucky no one was seriously injured or killed.

    P.S. Talking about attacks were any CQN’ers in the airport in Vigo after the Celtic v Celta Vigo game, when the local polis waded into us with their batons. It had been a great trip, we were welcomed with open arms by the locals, never forget the sight of a huge tricolour being hung from the top of a high apartment block, it must have reached down about 10 stories. However the locals and the local polis were entirely different animals.
