The land of registration anarchy

796

So how about this scenario, Celtic Youths are trailing in their league with 10 games to go when they register three new players, but someone’s ‘at it’.  The players are all over-age but the date of birth on their registration forms have been incorrectly completed, so the players are registered and become eligible to play the remaining games.  Celtic Youths win their remaining games and win the league.

At the end of the season the deception is uncovered.  The people responsible for filling the forms out incorrectly are criticised but one is president of the Scottish Football Association, who give evidence to an inquiry that as the Association registered the players, the results must stand.

Time to “draw a line under it” is the line from the SFA chief executive, hoping with all his might that no one mentions the Scottish Youth Cup games the players also played in, which would invoke a parallel punishment to the one recently imposed on Spartans Youths for exactly the same offence in the same competition.  The chief exec also dismisses attempts to call those criticised by the inquiry to account as scapegoating.

Ridiculous?  Of course, but this is what we’ve just experienced, with another club, of course.

Challenging the verdict, if possible, is a worthwhile endeavour but it will only treat one symptom of the many issues facing Scottish Premier League clubs, who could be forgiven for losing the will to compete within the rules.  Fans of several SPL clubs now believe their best interests are served by playing in an environment beyond Scotland – for a whole range of reasons.

We have to work with fans of other clubs to make the case for the SPL, as a unit, to leave Scottish football (I see cross-club initiatives are already underway).

On a completely unrelated question, if you had £21m in the bank late last year, and you were burning cash at £1m per month, which year would you run out of money?

  4. After a sixth visit from Dell engineers, the wife has eventually got her laptop fixed.

Everything is new, apart from the screen and the outer plastic case that houses the gubbins.

They sent out their man today with a stick, a stick that would solve all the problems, they reckoned it was us who couldn’t download drivers etc, anyways, he spent about 2 hours wiping the computer clean and reloading everything, only to find that the mother board was fecked, he had a spare, Dell were prepared this time…

It worked, and the wife has not even bothered with it, saving herself for later I reckon, anyways a brand new laptop.

  6. sipsini I saw an article earlier where Traynor said they had received their Share from Dundee United amounting to £33,000 and once funds were cleared they had donated the money to two Charities. My first thought was what £33,000. There must have been around 10,000 at the game, at an average of £20 a ticket that would be £200,000. Huns due 40% i.e. circa £80,000.

  7. ….Pfayr,

I just gave him my thoughts on his contribution to the debate and , as a catholic, how I thought he would be perceived by people of that faith.

Will be up the road regularly after Easter so catch you soon.

  13. 2nd biggest budget in scotland, 700k to a rookie manager, running with massive overheads, does not sound like a good way to make money.

does thompson speak for whole spl board

think celtic should step forward and put them in their place now, leaving no doubt about our position

  14. TET.

Surely they wouldn’t try to fastrack sevco…….that would be their biggest mistake….they have already confirmed that that would not be considered….mmmmmmmmmm

Ghood night (and it would be ‘good night’ to Scottish Football if they tried that one)

  17. So dwindling cash reserves…..

But all those new contracts ?

    Advertising contracts….

    Tv contracts…..

    Naming rights contract …

    Shirt deal contracts …

    Merchandising contracts…

    Sponsor deals…..

All these revenue streams negotiated by servco…

    Reviewable contracts ? ….

With all those losses this surely is not a sustainable business plan?

Surely these contracts increase for every promotion up the leagues?

Is that THE real reason why chuckles green is against league reconstruction in its current form?

Are they missing out on a contractually improvement on thier current deals with each promotion ?

Did they plan for that cash ?

    Oops

A very apt name, he looked as regal as they get…….I have aquired another dug today, not that we were planing but, the young lassie that has been abandoned has had to get rid, so we have ended up with another, not that one more will make any difference.

Main thing is, the lassie is sorted, we have managed to get her a birth cert, and are in the process of getting her passport, sometimes I could swing for so called parents.

She is off to scotland in the next couple of weeks, daughter is putting her up, a job is sorted, no much, care in the community, but it’s a job, enough to get a new life started.

    …………………..

    Doc

much obliged, can’t says that I will suss it out right away mind you, but will give it a go, will be in the morn,

  21. For years I drunk Dry Blackthorn Cider. I loved it’s crisp, dry taste, with a lovely appley aftertaste, and it’s refreshing qualities. I much prefer it to Magners. I may not drink Magners very often, but I’ll never drink that Blackthorn $!!T again!

  22. Bag packed, like a kid before Xmas. Reading another chapter of dreams and songs to sing. Great Celtic book when all else fails

As always dreaming we can do it. Whether 0. 5. On way back from artmedia or after we lost 3 0 in Amsterdam. 2 0 in cologne or same in Lisbon. St Ettiene 2. 0. Or even Neufchâtel. Some we have prevailed and some not. Mostly we have done ourselves proud as a club and support. So it’s up at 5am and Off to Turin with hope in our heart.

After 10 wretched years of watching the morally bereft lot try to compete in Europe it is just great to be part of it no matter if we win lose or draw. We have had a right good kick at the ball this year.
