The land of registration anarchy

796

So how about this scenario, Celtic Youths are trailing in their league with 10 games to go when they register three new players, but someone’s ‘at it’.  The players are all over-age but the date of birth on their registration forms have been incorrectly completed, so the players are registered and become eligible to play the remaining games.  Celtic Youths win their remaining games and win the league.

At the end of the season the deception is uncovered.  The people responsible for filling the forms out incorrectly are criticised but one is president of the Scottish Football Association, who give evidence to an inquiry that as the Association registered the players, the results must stand.

Time to “draw a line under it” is the line from the SFA chief executive, hoping with all his might that no one mentions the Scottish Youth Cup games the players also played in, which would invoke a parallel punishment to the one recently imposed on Spartans Youths for exactly the same offence in the same competition.  The chief exec also dismisses attempts to call those criticised by the inquiry to account as scapegoating.

Ridiculous?  Of course, but this is what we’ve just experienced, with another club, of course.

Challenging the verdict, if possible, is a worthwhile endeavour but it will only treat one symptom of the many issues facing Scottish Premier League clubs, who could be forgiven for losing the will to compete within the rules.  Fans of several SPL clubs now believe their best interests are served by playing in an environment beyond Scotland – for a whole range of reasons.

We have to work with fans of other clubs to make the case for the SPL, as a unit, to leave Scottish football (I see cross-club initiatives are already underway).

On a completely unrelated question, if you had £21m in the bank late last year, and you were burning cash at £1m per month, which year would you run out of money?

  1. Like many here I am at a loss in what I can do to change this situation

I’ve cancelled ESPN and SKY and told them why

I was a season ticket holder for many years even whilst. I lived abroad

Now due to work and family I don’t get to many games but we buy the shirts DVDs etc etc and have Celtic. In our hearts …. I remain to be convinced the same of some in charge of our club

But my son and daughters deserve the pleasure of supporting Celtic as do their kids etc and this is my worry because even they are asking how this can be allowed to happen and questioning the ” point of it all”

If we don’t cut the head from the serpent now I fear it may too late to do it later

    Hail hail

Firstly, let me say I always pay attention to your posts. Along with Auldheid, TBB, Gordon J and Ernie Lynch – to name but a few of many – I enjoy your posts and your take on thIngs as it tends to be original and considered.

My question in response to your last posting is this….

What could Celtic do to retain your support should we reach the final?

  9. Charles Green says he will ban supporters for life if they are caught signing sectarian songs around Ibrox.

Does this apply to players, officials and directors as well?

Meanwhile McCoist wants a list of Offensive songs named, he doesn’t know what sectarian means, this can be used by any fan as a get out cause.

  10. All we can do is continue to speak up against the myths and lies. Rangers died, owing millions. Rangers cheated, owing millions. The SFA colluded, ignoring millions.

They would dearly love to do so again with Sevco. But we have to keep up the bampottery so that they are unable to. Then, when the cash runs out, Sevco will be helpless. We have to hope. We have to believe. But that doesn’t mean being passive about it.

If you see a lie, call it a lie. If you see cheating, shout about it. We are bampots. This is what we do.

By the way, Tallybhoy says no but the BBC’s weather forecasts for Milan these past couple of days have been spot-on. Rain is to start falling here about 7 pm tonight and continue throughout tomorrow. In Turin, it will fall as snow, at least until tomorrow afternoon when it may turn to rain.

    So do wrap up, Hoops.

The game is not on the telly. You’ll have to find a pub that has Al Jazeera or equivalent. I am actually in Trowbridge this weekend and hope to watch the game in the Lamb. Last time I was there the landlord, good Tim, was using all sorts of TV feeds.

    Good luck and Hail! Hail!

  14. Since the LNS whitewash I have been certain in my feelings that we will never get justice in a country run by people that belong to secret organisations and just this week I have found out that there are even more secrative break away sects that a hell of a lot of the judiciary and police belong to.This is not only a Scottish thing it is worldwide.

Now on a football front the only way we will have any success in railing against this is to fight the SFA, alot of whose members have been placed in their positions many years ago in order to keep the dominance of one club and one club only.

We have the power in our own hands and more importantly our pockets to do this. By we I mean every fan of every club outside of the chosen one should never put a penny piece into the SFA coffers. That means no attendance at SFA run cup matches no support for the national team, no merchandise buying of the national teams items.

I believe that by a solid response to this we will have a clear out of the rotten cabal that run our game and we can return to supporting the national team again.

Finally and once and for all can we all stop talking about walking away from our own clubs. This is the most ridiculous call of all by walking away you only harm ourselves and the other lot have won the final victory.

  15. Auldheid

Last night (@22:55) over on TSFM, in response to a reported rumour that SPL clubs are ‘talking about leaving Scottish football en masse’, you said that ‘I was told from a very high source to “trust us”’.

Can you tell us a bit more about where that very high source

might be found (CFC, SPL, SFA, or all three)?

Even without knowing more about that source, however, I must also say that I find it very hard indeed to vest much confidence in anyone in a senior position in the game in Scotland; even at Celtic.

Although it may sound like splitting hairs, I’m not saying I don’t trust them: just that I don’t have confidence in them representing the views of fair-minded fans.

I would argue that, as fans of the beautiful game, our interests very firmly depend upon the principles of sporting integrity being seen to be applied and upheld by those in positions of authority; so transparency and accountability are required.

Even in these heady days of almost forensic internet scrutiny of matters that a mere 10 years ago would probably have been put to bed in a few of days, there remains scant evidence of such openness in our game, even from Celtic (although I recognise there MAY be timing issues for the current custodians of our club, as well it being doubtful that Celtic FC could do much without being part of a larger coalition of top clubs).

The well-paid executives and those with significant shareholdings in our clubs may not feel that their interests coincide with those of their customers.

If I’m correct, I fear that the game will be a bogey in Scotland, since the number of fans who will drift away from the game will most likely put the game into irreversible decline.

You see…what we are seeing here amongst the fans is a mirror image of the

Celtic PLC is a – rudderless ship imo

When the chips are down – the board head for the hills.

In fact…they’ll probably be in cahoots wi chuckie working on a joint sponsorship

Because…they all know that the Celtic Board are a rudderless ship and

It seems to me that the sevconians in suits are not even bothering to hide their contempt for everyone else in the game.

We should just resign from the game now as we’re just making up the numbers. What’s left to preserve for our children? A lovely warm seat at the back of the bus? Without any action or any form of fightback, we are complicit in the current shenanigans.

Well said. My thoughts entirely. The TA have a big part to play in all of this. A boycott of Scotland’s remaining WC qualifiers would be of huge embarrassment to the SFA and questions would be asked from major sponsors William Hill, Sky etc.

The Romans conquered the known world on porridge. Fact

Yes true but Roman porridge was made from wheat! Egyptian wheat, then no.1 in the world and according to the book I encountered, having a much higher protein content than the present.

No doubt on the far flung outskirts of their empire they had to resort to “when in Rome do as the Romans do” and on the “wall” got used to having their oats locally and regularly, in between times of being sprung upon by bands of marauding Picts off to (or returning from) the land of milk and honey for a bit of rape and plunder.

    Best Wishes,
