The land of registration anarchy

796

So how about this scenario, Celtic Youths are trailing in their league with 10 games to go when they register three new players, but someone’s ‘at it’.  The players are all over-age but the date of birth on their registration forms have been incorrectly completed, so the players are registered and become eligible to play the remaining games.  Celtic Youths win their remaining games and win the league.

At the end of the season the deception is uncovered.  The people responsible for filling the forms out incorrectly are criticised but one is president of the Scottish Football Association, who give evidence to an inquiry that as the Association registered the players, the results must stand.

Time to “draw a line under it” is the line from the SFA chief executive, hoping with all his might that no one mentions the Scottish Youth Cup games the players also played in, which would invoke a parallel punishment to the one recently imposed on Spartans Youths for exactly the same offence in the same competition.  The chief exec also dismisses attempts to call those criticised by the inquiry to account as scapegoating.

Ridiculous?  Of course, but this is what we’ve just experienced, with another club, of course.

Challenging the verdict, if possible, is a worthwhile endeavour but it will only treat one symptom of the many issues facing Scottish Premier League clubs, who could be forgiven for losing the will to compete within the rules.  Fans of several SPL clubs now believe their best interests are served by playing in an environment beyond Scotland – for a whole range of reasons.

We have to work with fans of other clubs to make the case for the SPL, as a unit, to leave Scottish football (I see cross-club initiatives are already underway).

On a completely unrelated question, if you had £21m in the bank late last year, and you were burning cash at £1m per month, which year would you run out of money?

    Tbb,

A vote of no confidence in the football authorities is what’s required followed by an investigation into the failure of one of the largest clubs in the country and the actions of the authorities thereafter. This cannot be fulfilled whilst the current incumbents are in place.

  2. *THE KING VIC 67* on

    Come on Celtic!

Release a statement with REAL intent from which our supporters organisations can utilise as a platform to galvanise our support and show corrupt SFA what we think!

What the hell do we care?? – A LOT!

  3. stretching credibility here but stay with me…

Whose accounts were published yesterday? The holding company’s or the club’s?

Why is that an important question?

lets look at Celtic or in fact any other SPL club… Everyone, bar 500 mill global fans, accept that a club and its company are one and the same so when Celtic PLC post accounts they are doing so on behalf of the club; one set of income against one set of expenditure = profit or loss…. Accountancy for dummies!

These accounts are assessed by the financial markets for probity and the SPL/SFA for licensing purposes… With me?

So… whose accounts were published yesterday?

The MSM, Rangers supporters, the SFA and the SPL defend, staunchly, that club and company are separate entities hence liquidation of oldco and continuation of club… Still with me?

The “Whose accounts were published yesterday” becomes a VERY important question now.

if it were the holding company when does the football club release accounts to the SFA and SFL? And what figures will IT be using to produce accounts?

Moreover should the holding company only show accounts pertaining to the OPERATING of the football club i.e. Ticket income, merchandising, hospitality, tv, sponsorship and company expenses, matchday expenses. Whereas the CLUB holds all the costs borne from player registration i.e. Wages, bonuses etc and very little in the way of income (because ALL the income has been claimed by the COMPANY)

Lastly, the rules tell us that players MUST derive ALL income from the CLUB and NOT from ANY OTHER PARTY…

We are constantly told that RIFC are the COMPANY and The Rangers are the club and both are separate and distinct… If that’s the case… Are the players not being paid by a THIRD PARTY?

Portsmouth tried to argue it was their holding company that was being liquidated not them so points deductions should not apply… We know the FAs response to that…

… and then there was the curious case if Carlos Teves? And we all know what happened there!

  4. Some folk on here at times come away with something like – “…it’ll take the huns 10 years to catch up with us !”

    Oh, yeah ?

With the sprinkling of the – just been shafted feeling kicking-in…what size of crowd then ?

It’s sad to see and, you know what….I have been waiting for all this – nuclear stuff – to drop on the huns…..where is it ?

  6. What are the CST , CSA views on the current situation in Scottish football ?

Are Sevco going to be treated as a NEW club , if not why not . Where’s the precedent for a club going into liquidation but continuing as if nothing happened except dumping of the debt.

The Club is the Company and the company is the Club , one cannot exist without the other .

My question for today is this , If the situation stays as it is ( no appeal ) , Sevco are allowed to continue as if they are the club formed in 1872 but without the debt and the Celtic Board do not object to all of this . Where does that leave US the fans ?

  7. “Football without the fans is nothing,” Jock Stein famously said, it was the fans who were the game-changer in the summer when the zombie huns were trying to get into the leagues, it looks like it will be up to the fans again to sort out this sorry mess and change the face of Scottish football once and for all. It is time to rid ourselves of these corrupt administrators who look after the interests of ONE team and ONE team only. Time to clear out these knuckle-crunching palm ticklers, the days of goat fiddling are over! Viva la Revolución.

a holiday to get the day off, and before their demise

subsequent return and then LNS decision this would

have been a no brainer for me.

But now I have a feeling that by going I would be giving

the SFA the green light to continue their corrupt behaviour

but I also agree with previous posters, that if I do not go

then the glory hunters and medal chasers will, and the SFA

will smile and give themselves a slap on the back or a funny handshake.

It leaves the fans exactly where Fergus left us – 19 years ago yesterday – Brian Dempsey stood on the steps of Celtic Park and said – “The Game Is Over – the Rebels Have won!”

Now…Fergus has been praised since forever on here but…how many Rebels made it onto the board and, how long did they last until…they found themselves on the outside – looking in ?

You see…the hierarchy will tell us on one hand – Your the best fans in the world !

But…on the other hand they ask for yer money then – close the door in your face !

Per my post earlier, the way this is heading is appalling. On this board and elsewhere the question being asked is.. “What’s the point?”

Fact is the SFA is the clubs in Scotland acting collectively. If the clubs collectively are satisfied with the way the Game is being Governed, then Ogilvie will be re-elected unopposed for a 2nd term as President.

If there is dissent, that will give you an idea of what the Game at large thinks of it all.

While Celtic and all the other clubs that were impacted by Rangers’ disgrace cannot come out shooting targets left and right, they can at least ensure that the growing distance separating fans from the Game generally is reflected in how they go about re-ordering the SFA.

    Or not.

  21. Typing on the phones bhoys and ghirls so will keep it short. Put simply the situation re sevco, lns, league re construction and ultimately who runs football in scotland can only be addressed by the following. Numbers are the key, first decide what you want and more importantly what we don’t. Put these decisions up as a statement of intent ( not a means for debate). Ask people of all clubs to support this stance. Make it quite clear to the authorities that given action will take place should the demands not be met. The actions have to hurt the opposition ( and trust me they the sfa and spl are opposition).

The best way it would appear to hurt said bheast is via money this is what they covet not sport or anything else.

With this in mind the actions need to be vocal consistent and powerful , the powers need to see and know that the consequences of in action will be too much to bare.

I am not saying this is easy but other than resortimg to violence it is the only way to beat an enemy.

  23. I know there are many supporters of many clubs who are ready to walk away from football after the sevco charade.

Knowing the only person who will lose out is your own club makes this a painful decision.

An easy and fairly simple way to make a point would be if supporters of all clubs boycott the written and broadcast media. After all these guys played no small part in the great sevco lie.

Cancel sky, espn, dont call or listen to phone ins, dont buy a paper of any sort. Leave sevconians and the msm to continue their in house chatter.

Personally I have done all the above some time ago so my decision is to renew or not renew. Thats my big question.

The trouble is , as I am sure you know, not just Ogilvie but the whole organisation. Throughout my lifetime, it has been dominated by “Rangers men” and their demise is demise in word only. In reality, nothing has REALLY changed.

I know the reincarnation is in the lowest League but the Fans` revolution which made that happen will be made more difficult to succeed again.

I don`t know the answer but I do know that, in the end, whatever course of action I take will be in response to my true feelings and not to make a point.

If massive changes do not take place at the top of our game, then I would imagine I wouldn`t have the enthusiasm to continue going to games. If that is to be the outcome, them I would gradually become used to it have a normal life without football. There ARE other options!

of – both the board / establishment !!! imo

Cutting a long story short…I’ve been a long time critic of this board. What’s happening just now is a, clear demonstration of the type of beast who resides in the CP board room.

I say that – Celtic fans should continue to support the team till this season is over.

Then, get all the hearts and minds of the support together and propose that the board, represent the fans motion of a move to – remove Campbell Ogolvie. For starters….gauge the mood of all concerned at that time. If, as I expect…the board don’t want to be involved then…propose a – No ST’s to be bought until there are change’s on the board !!!

The appeal process is there for this very reason. Sevco were not slow to use it successfully with Lord Glennie.

It seems as if our board only act tough with our own fans.
